"Not quite right for my loved one: Gold Choice review"

I visited Gold Choice Ormond Beach to find a place for my loved one needing Memory Care. It was just okay. It was clean and the people were friendly enough, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted for my loved one.

"Dirty Facility with Unbothered Staff and Unhappy Residents"

This place was super messy, old and had a terrible stench. I popped in at the last minute, and the 3 nursing assistants were hanging out at the end of the hallway. One of them was kicked back on a rolling cart, and they were joking around having a blast. They didn't even flinch when the said she was going to give me a tour. I saw a bunch of the people who live there just sitting aimlessly in their chairs in the hallway. They didn't seem well looked after or cheerful.

"New Director Can't Fix Poor Conditions at Ormond Beach Facility"

I was really hoping that I could write this review for the Ormond Beach Facility without too much of my emotions mixed in. My mom stays at this place, and I thought it was a pretty decent choice - everything looked okay. But, since I live in a different state, I usually call them before I come for a visit. One time, I asked them to make sure my mom was dressed and ready in the lobby because we had to go to an appointment. But when I got there, she was still in her pj's - and guess what? She said she didn't have clothes to wear. That didn't make any sense because I'd bought her lots of clothes, sheets, towels, and stuff like that just a couple of months before. The staff told me her clothes were in the dryer, but when I checked, all I found was one pair of pants and a disgusting smelling comforter. I even asked the boss if she'd let her own mom wear pants like that, and she just said they'd wash them again. But, instead of drying them properly, they put the still wet clothes on my mom's bed. Can you believe the clothes still stank after a wash? Turns out the laundry lady told me they wash the clothes in cold water and use cheap soap that doesn't really clean anything. And even after I told the boss about this, nothing changed. And that's not all - before my visit, my mom fell over. They said she was alright and that they had to let me know about it, but when I got there, I noticed she was struggling to use her right hand. She said it started to bother her after her fall. When I asked the staff, they admitted they hadn't checked her properly after the fall. My mom even shared a room with a lady who smoked all the time. She kept air fresheners under her bed and started spraying it around whenever we'd walk in and mention a cigarette smell. When the staff asked her if she was smoking inside, she just said "no". That was the end of it, apparently. The place also seems to have a lot of staff changes. While I was there, their cook either got fired or quit - had to step in and make dinner. She had to do all the work and stay late hours. seemed to genuinely care and was trying her best. Looks like she's the boss now, so maybe things will get better. But I don't know how much change she can bring if the company keeps paying low wages and hiring just anyone who applies.

"Mixed Experience: Nice Building, Low Service Standards, High Turnover"

The place seems a bit run-down. Workers don't stick around long. The building looks nice, and they have fun activities. It smells clean, too. But some things aren't done well. They don't trim my friend's nails, so I have to do it myself. It's hard to believe, but it's true. Also, the cooks don't stay long, and the food isn't great. Seems like they're paid very little. So, it's okay, but don't expect great service. Just enough to get by.

"Neglect and Poor Care in Assisted Living Experience"

Unpleasant experience. My relative was neglected on the toilet for almost an hour, not once but twice. It reminded me more of a nursing home rather than an assisted living facility.

"Absolutely thrilled with Papita's care!"

We are so happy! From our first meeting with the staff to the most recent care for Papita, everything has been excellent. The staff is kind, attentive, and supportive. The common areas are bright, clean, and perfect for Papita. We couldn't recommend a better place in the area.
