"Pleased with care, communication, cleanliness; would choose HarborChase again."

We're pleased with HarborChase's care and communication; cleanliness surpasses Brookdale.

"Friendly Staff, Great Food, Staffing Concerns"

All the people were super nice and welcoming. The meals are awesome! The only problem is they started having fewer residents, so they had to cut down on staff which made care and talking to staff a bit harder.

"Memory Care Rooms Too Small, Lacks Cozy Atmosphere"

The rooms in Harbor Chase's memory care are very small. There are no closets or space to store anything. They claim it's because residents get confused by doors, but I doubt that. An armoire is needed, and there's not enough room for diapers, wipes, bed pads, and clothes. The memory care area feels like one big open space and lacks a cozy feeling. The TV was too loud, making it hard to escape the noise. The assisted living side looked good.

"Mixed Experience at HarborChase of Jacksonville"

The part of this place that takes care of memory issues felt like a gloomy dungeon. But the assisted living section was really good! If both sides were like the assisted living area, we’d have seriously thought about choosing HarborChase of Jacksonville.

"Generally good despite staff turnover; better than previous nursing home."

Overall, it's been pretty good. Staff turnover's an issue, though. Living here isn't my first choice, but it's okay. I have my own space and belongings. People are friendly and helpful. This place is much better than the nursing home I was in before.

"Inadequate Care at Assisted Living Facility"

If your family member is fully able and aware, this place might be okay. But if they need any kind of extra help, don't go here. They just don't have enough people working. We had an awful time. My loved one went in with their hospital clothes on and left days later in the same dirty clothes.

"Stay Alert and Visit Regularly for Best Care"

Make sure to be watchful. It’s important to come by frequently so you’re not caught off guard by anything unexpected. This way, you can ensure that everything is going smoothly and there are no sudden changes or issues that you didn’t know about.

"Unbearable problems faced by my parents at HarborChase."

My parents stayed at HarborChase - dad was in Memory Care and mom was in Assisted Living. They both faced lots of bad stuff there. (1) There was a scabies outbreak in Memory Care, but the facility didn't inform us. They treated my dad and others without telling us or asking our permission. (2) Sometimes there was no one watching over the Memory Care residents, and my dad got hurt by another resident during one of these times. (3) Dad's medicine wasn't given right and when we asked for his medication records for his doctor, they couldn't find it. (4) The air conditioner in my mom's room broke due to a dirty filter. After they changed the dirty filter, her constant coughing, which started when she moved in, stopped. (5) We even spotted cockroaches in my mom's room. I asked for a meeting with the head person to discuss these issues, but instead, they told us to find a new place for my parents in 45 days. 22 days later, we moved my parents out. But they kept my parents' $3,500 deposit and the rent paid in advance - about $15,000 for the 27 days before they asked us to leave and the 22 days it took to find a new place. I really regret not checking with the State of Florida for complaints against HarborChase and not checking the qualifications of the staff working there. I trusted what I saw during the visit, not realizing that the place could have been made to look clean and safe with the problem residents kept hidden. Our memories of HarborChase are awful, but thankfully, my parents are now safe and happy in their new home.

"Feels More Like a Basic Bed and Breakfast"

They lacked facilities. Unlike other places, they didn't have a gym for exercise. It felt more like a bed and breakfast because there was no library or computer room. Also, it was a lot more costly, likely because it's situated near the beach on San Pablo Road. My dad wasn't too fond of it because the rooms were small, almost like a motel room.
