"Avoid Heron East: Poor staffing, management, and food quality. Not recommended."

I lived at Heron East before, and my time there wasn't good. They didn't have enough staff, and the managers weren't good at their job. The food wasn't tasty either. So, I decided to move somewhere else. I wouldn't suggest Heron East to anyone.

"Clean and Spacious, but Lots of Walking"

Heron East is a newer place, super clean, but lots of walking.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility: Cleanliness, Care Concerns"

The place is super clean, and the food tastes good. We also like that our loved one's room is big for the price. The activities are okay, but it would be nice if there were more different things to do. But, there are some problems overall. Figuring out the bills feels like a guessing game, so it'd be better if they told us exactly what we're paying each month. Also, sometimes our loved one needs help, but it takes forever for someone to come when she rings the bell. They keep changing who takes care of her, which can be confusing and frustrating. When I tell them about my worries, they don't seem to care or do anything about it. It feels like they're not listening and it's hard to get things done. It's not what they said it would be like when we first came here. The person who helped us sign up was really nice, but it seems like once they got us in, they stopped caring.

"Assisted Living Facility's COVID Response Raises Serious Concerns"

I was really upset with how things went down during the COVID-19 outbreak at this place back in June. They didn't tell me, the person with Power of Attorney for one of the residents, that she tested positive until after she was taken to a hospital we didn't choose. It caused a lot of problems for our family. The facility didn't even send the POA paperwork with any of the residents to the hospital. When they finally realized they hadn't sent any POA documents for any of the patients, they had to scramble to fix it. They cleared out our family member's room without telling us and then said she couldn't have it back when she returned. Before the outbreak, we had asked for proof that they were providing the extra care we were paying for, but they hardly ever returned our calls, especially who was supposed to be in charge. We only started getting calls returned when we needed to find our family member's valuables and get her stuff out of there. We didn't go back once she got better. When we went to pick up her things, we ended up with someone else's stuff mixed in, which makes us wonder how many others had the same problem. This facility really let us down. COVID-19 or not, they should have had better plans in place. It was bound to happen eventually, but it felt like Heron East didn't know what they were doing once the staff started getting sick. When someone can't make their own medical decisions, their POA should always be the first call. And now they're trying to fill all the empty rooms like nothing happened. I'm really disappointed and yes, mad, about how poorly they handled everything.

"Disappointing Visit to Assisted Living Facility"

I visited this place yesterday. I didn't like it for these reasons: There's no kitchenette in the rooms. There's no nurse available 24/7. Meal times were set, not flexible.

"Warm and welcoming family experience."

My mom had Thanksgiving with us but wanted to return to Herons with all the desserts. The staff treated our family like we were at a restaurant. They set up a table in the living area with coffee, drinks, plates, and silverware, and even offered us more. We brought our own desserts, and it was so warm and friendly to be together as a family. The staff is always welcoming and goes above and beyond. Thank God for Herons. We love you!

"Affordable and easy move-in process"

My mom is really happy with the community and is settling in nicely. Everyone has been super accommodating, and we haven’t had any problems so far. This place is also more affordable than others we checked out. The marketing lady, who’s also a nurse, did a great job. Overall, it’s been a good and easy experience getting her moved in.

"Tour for care"

This is a great place for my father's care. The staff is friendly and answers all our questions about the care offered to residents. We liked the healthy meal options and activities that would be good for my father. We recommend families tour this community.

The place was awesome, and the people who work there were really nice. They always told me what my family member needed and how they were doing. There are lots of fun things for them to do, and they have good food options too.

"Cozy Assisted Living with Warm Staff and Crowded Rooms"

Nice place with friendly staff, but rooms are smaller and it’s quite crowded with 100 residents.

"Amazing care, friendly staff, perfect place for my mom!"

My mom has lived at Heron East since 2015, and she absolutely loves it. Our whole family is happy with the care she gets. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, greeting you with a smile as soon as you walk in. My mom gets great care, and all the residents seem happy there. They have plenty of activities to keep everyone busy. I couldn’t ask for a better place for her!

"Wonderful care and staff, highly recommended!"

My mother has been at Heron East for a while now, and I can't say enough about how great the staff and the facility are. My mom is really happy here, and our whole family feels the same. Compared to the last place she was at, this is truly a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend Heron East to anyone looking for a place for their loved one.

"Good people, bad food"

The folks at Heron East were friendly and welcoming. The building and layout were great. The nursing staff was decent, but sometimes they were short-staffed. Laundry service was excellent. However, the food was disappointing—very institutionalized. The veggies weren't fresh, and the cauliflower soup lacked cauliflower flavor. My mom, a nutritionist, was let down. The meat wasn't much better. She preferred simple chicken and fish. Eventually, she stopped eating due to various reasons.

"So Happy and Grateful!"

I give Heron East five stars, but what's more important is that my mom would too! They’ve really welcomed her and helped her come out of her shell, making her feel like she’s part of a family. I’m just so happy! They’ve been amazing, and it’s hard to even describe how wonderful the whole experience has been!

"Expensive Fees, Be Cautious Before Committing"

This place lists their small studio at $2,100 a month. But watch out! You'll also have to cough up a non-refundable "community fee" of $3,000. And if you can't handle your meds on your own, they'll charge you over $250 extra monthly to help you. Plus, any extra care beyond the basics will set you back more than $300 each month. Don't sign up before you know all the costs!

"Hidden Fees Can Significantly Increase Monthly Cost"

The base price for a tiny studio apartment is a hefty $2100.00 monthly. However, you'll also have to pay a non-refundable "community fee" of $3,000.00 right from the start. And if you're unable to manage your medication, expect an additional $250 or more per month for them to take care of it. Any additional services needed beyond the basic minimum? It's going to cost you upwards of $300 more each month. So, you should definitely know these details BEFORE you decide to move in.

"Exceptional place with welcoming staff and nice layout."

I thought this place was exceptional. I really loved how it looked and everything about it more than anywhere else. The layout was great, the staff was really nice, and everyone was very welcoming. It just wasn't as easy to get around for me.

"Grateful for the exceptional care Mom receives at Heron East"

Heron East is more than just a place for my mom. It’s a caring community where she feels safe, content, and gets the care she needs for both her body and emotions. The staff, including the administration, creates an environment that brings her peace despite her health challenges. As her family, we always get quick answers and help with any issues that pop up. We’re very thankful for the outstanding care Mom gets at Heron East.

"Wonderful, fun, caring staff, great food, Dad is happy!"

After many visits to see a dear friend at Heron East, we decided to move my dad there too. I’m so happy with this choice. It was hard to decide since my dad has dementia and can need a lot of help. But now, he’s doing so much better than at his old place. It’s great to see him so happy! I love all the staff, especially the entertainment director. He really gets everyone involved in fun activities. They have lots of live entertainment and interesting outings, plus a free family night every quarter with delicious food and great entertainment. I also enjoy the nice quiet areas, the different living rooms, and the pool table. The facility is beautiful with lovely flowers, plants, and a nice pond with lots of turtles. Most importantly, the staff really cares about the residents. They even helped hang our photos and gave great ideas for decorating when he moved in. Our family is so happy we found Heron East. And the food is fabulous! Dad loves his eggs made just how he likes them for breakfast. Everything tastes homemade, and I love eating with him in the pretty, spacious dining room. It’s a great place for visits. It’s such a relief knowing my dad is in a clean, safe, and loving environment. The staff is attentive and calls me if anything seems unusual. I appreciate how they care for him and want the best for him. No matter their job, everyone helps the residents find their way and offers assistance when needed. The staff has a positive attitude, and it shows. As a result, the residents seem very happy. I just love going there. It’s a fun place to be. If you’re looking for an assisted living facility, you should definitely check it out. It’s a wonderful place, and my dad says, "I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!

"My Mom and I Love Heron East"

Three years ago, my mom fell and broke her hip. She couldn't go back to her apartment alone, so we found Heron East. She has her own private room and bathroom, which is really important when coming from living alone. She's been very happy there. When she moved in, she weighed only 85 pounds but has really thrived and gained weight since then. I can't say her weight now (she wouldn't be happy if I did), but the socialization has really improved her outlook on life. I feel very confident in the staff and believe each one cares about her as an individual. Having her cared for and knowing she has a place to call home has made me feel so blessed. Thank you to everyone at Heron East, from the housekeepers to the nursing staff to the management staff. A very grateful daughter!
