"Owner Cares More for Money Than Bedridden, Dementia Patient's Well-being"

I'm still quite upset, and although I wasn't initially planning to share my thoughts, I feel I must let others be aware. Back on September 10, 2018, my mother, a non-English speaking dementia patient, became a resident in this facility. The owner promised the addition of a Spanish-speaking staff member and a 24/7 caregiver because my mother, being bedridden, required extra care. I agreed to pay more for these services, comforted by the fact that my mother would have her own room. However, the problems became quickly evident. At night, the caregiver would often ignore her duties and sleep. Additionally, the residence itself was unbearably warm, despite being told upon admission that the air conditioning was to be fixed the following day. This was never resolved, even after thirty days with the place uncomfortably heated at 80 degrees. At her previous residence in she my mother was attended to by a dedicated 24/7 caregiver. This person took great care of her and she never had a bed sore. However, due to the inattention and the overheated conditions here, she developed bed sores almost instantaneously. I had to visit nearly every day to personally cook, feed, and clean her, this, despite only living three miles away and paying for extra services. Fourteen days into her stay, my mother exhibited symptoms of shock. I happened to be there during the incident and despite the panic from the poorly trained staff, I had to call emergency services myself. After a night in the hospital, she returned to the facility. Only two weeks later, another incident occurred - I arrived to find my mom choking, foam at her mouth. Once again, I had to call an ambulance while the panic-struck staff were of no use. The owner, who happened to be mowing the lawn during the crisis, did not come in to check on the situation. Instead, he left after finishing his yard work, whilst my mom was rushed to the hospital in heart and kidney failure. By 3 AM, she was transferred to the Tidewell hospice, where she passed away only 14 hours later. Despite the fact that my mother died only 10 days after paying for a full month of care, the owner refused a reimbursement, citing a 30-day notice requirement in the contract. Even faced with a death, the owner seemed more focused on the money rather than the patient's comfort or care, implying I had breached the contract by transferring her to the Tidewell facility in her last hours. I hope this account will be helpful for those seeking a care facility for their loved ones. This place might be suitable for those able to care for themselves and who enjoy warmer temperatures but based on my experience, it was not suitable for a bedridden or terminal patient.

"Disappointing Experience: Poor Management and Care at Assisted Living Facility"

The person in charge lacks patience and politeness. He is usually there, mostly idling around on his phone. It's not rare to overhear him having arguments with the staff. The staff themselves lack proper cooking skills and seem to not pay much attention. They usually take breaks outside for a smoke, constantly absorbed in their mobiles. There's confusion regarding medication management. I'd advise you to consider any other place. The residents fail to receive even basic dental hygiene care like teeth brushing, not to mention denture maintenance. Help to the restroom doesn't come until the residents are already uncomfortable. Activities to keep them engaged are found missing here. The food is hardly homemade - it's typically microwaved or cooked using simple kitchen appliances like a skillet or toaster oven. Moreover, the main room is unusually hot due to the lack of a proper air-conditioning system. Though the preliminary tour might appear impressive, the reality is starkly different.

"Horribly inept, uncaring center. They only want your dollars!"

I'd never, ever put my relatives here. The workers and bosses are super bad at their jobs. My own aunt stayed here and they were absolutely horrible to her and to their employees.

"Kim sounds wonderful! Small, secure, and all-female facility."

Kim sounds wonderful! It’s a small, six-bed, all-female facility with two open spots. Not locked, but every door has alarms for safety.
