St. Augustine Plantation

"Mixed experience at St Augustine Assisted Living; better for independent seniors."
We only stayed at St. Augustine for a couple of months. It wasn't the right fit for our mom. It's a pretty place with good qualities, but it's more suitable for people who can mostly take care of themselves. Many residents seemed happy, but Mom needed more attention. We also had problems with the staff. For others considering it, if the person can move around on their own, they might be okay. Otherwise, they might end up spending a lot of time alone in their room. They don't seem to encourage residents to stay active, even though they say they do.

"Communication Issues and Care Neglect at St. Augustine Plantation"
I'm worried about how the staff at St. Augustine Plantation don't talk to each other well, which affects how they take care of us every day. Some things got lost and no one seemed to care. They didn't handle these problems the right way. After what we went through there, I wouldn't tell others to go there.

"A Mixed Experience in Assisted Living"
My family member lived here. The staff is good and they work really hard. The people who run things helped us fix issues. Our loved one needed a bit more care, but because they didn't always have enough staff, they couldn't always give that. It was nice here, but we chose to move her because she needed more care.

"Memory Care Facility Falls Short, Communication Lacks, Staffing Issues"
My husband stayed in the Memory Care part of this place for six years until he passed away. At first, things were alright for a couple of years. But just before Covid hit, we started noticing a decline in the care he was getting. The people in charge don’t really talk well with the workers. They keep changing staff, and the new ones aren’t trained well to handle residents with memory issues. Instead of spending time with the people living there, some workers are always on their phones. The building itself is kept pretty tidy, and the food is just average. I wouldn’t suggest the Memory Care area to anyone.

"Caring Staff, Needed More Personal Attention"
Our family member wasn’t there long before she left us. While she was there, it seemed like it could have been a good fit for her. The people working there were really helpful when we had questions. The care she got was alright, but as she got sicker really fast, I think she would have done better with more personal care.

"Friendly staff, but difficulty with stubborn loved one's care"
Our family member stayed here for respite care. We informed the staff beforehand that our loved one had been living independently for many years and was set in their ways. If our loved one had been more willing to participate, we would have rated this community 5 stars, but they made it challenging. We don't blame the staff; they really tried their best. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful.

"Pandemic stopped all activities, disappointed."
The fun stuff at the assisted living place had to stop because of the pandemic.

"Mixed Experience at St. Augustine Plantation"
We picked St. Augustine Plantation because it seemed like a good deal and looked nice after a recent makeover. But my grandma mentioned that yesterday, someone entered her room without gloves and had powder on their hands. Also, there have been several COVID outbreaks, leading to more lockdowns for the residents.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living"
This place looks nice, the staff works, and they’re friendly. The layout feels like a big home with lots of rooms to gather in, and the food is good. But, after a while, we realized our expectations weren’t met. The nurses weren’t the best, and the management was just okay. Still, considering the industry, it’s probably the best nearby.

"Good Facility with Separate Living and Dementia Units"
I liked that this place had separate areas for assisted living and dementia care. I decided against bringing my husband here because the dementia section was full, and the staff would have to move him between the two sides every day. This community seemed more lively than others, with lots of activities. All the staff were around and paying attention. They were very understanding of the residents' needs.

"Attentive Staff in Lively Community"
I liked this place because it had both assisted living and a dementia unit. I didn't choose it for my husband because the dementia unit was full, and the staff would have to move him between the two sides every day. The community felt more lively than other places, with lots of activities. All the staff members were visible and attentive, and they cared about the residents' well-being.

"Clean, friendly community with familiar layout; helpful staff and informative."
This place had almost the same layout as where my mom lived before. The dining room was right at the front when you walk in. When I walked around, I wasn't too concerned about how things were set up. It was really clean and the staff we met were nice and told us a lot.

"Floor Plan Familiarity; Clean Community, Friendly Staff"
This place looked a lot like where my mom lived before. The dining room was right by the front door. When I walked around, I didn't really mind how things were laid out. The place was super clean, and the staff we talked to were really nice and told us a lot.

"Well-organized, friendly community with great food and activities"
St. Augustine Plantation has been a great choice for Dad. After a follow-up with the director, everything is running smoothly. The community is well-organized and the food is delicious, with many meal options. I’ve eaten there with Dad, and the staff is friendly and caring. They offer lots of activities and outings, and the staff encourages everyone to join in. We believe St. Augustine Plantation is a perfect choice for Dad’s care and gives us peace of mind.

"My father's care here is great!"
I’m happy with the care my father gets at this community. The staff is attentive, and we appreciate how clean everything is. The environment is great, and my father enjoys the meals. They also offer a lot of activities. I would suggest families tour this community for their loved ones’ care.

"Avoid Admitting Loved Ones to This Poorly Managed Facility"
My mom has lived at St Augustine Plantation for over three years but now, I can't speak well of this place anymore. The staff and nurses mean well, but the leadership is dismal, showing and a lack of concern that's just not acceptable. The meals here involve frozen veggies and pre-made dishes like meat pot pies. Despite my countless pleas for fresh fruits, the seniors rarely get anything aside from canned peaches or fruit cocktail. Just tonight, a resident was in tears because, despite repeatedly asking for a meat and potatoes meal for dinner, all he got to choose from were grilled cheese or cold deli meat. Families have made calls, lodged complaints, and met with the management, promised that things will change, but nothing is getting better. My mom had a leg wound that no one reported, which was utterly infected - we're still battling with the infection three months later, which opened a severe stage 3 wound alarmingly close to the bone. While this place may look nice, until the leadership changes, I beg you not to entrust anyone you care about to the director's care.

"Exactly what we needed"
The staff here are super friendly and caring. When I picked up my husband from respite care, he seemed much better. He had a stroke three years ago and hasn’t been very social since. The social interactions really lifted his spirits. We’ll definitely use St. Augustine’s services again.

"Disappointing Experience, but Helpful Staff at St. Augustine Plantation"
The tour at St. Augustine Plantation was really nice. They were friendly when they realized it might not be right for my parents. But, the place didn't seem like it could give my parents the care they needed. They didn't pressure me to sign up during the tour. They gave me their number if I needed assistance.

"Friendly staff and well-maintained new building."
The staff was very friendly during my tour. The market director was excellent. They let me talk to the nursing staff, which I appreciated because I knew they wouldn’t accept people with sores level 2 or higher. I didn’t get to see the activities or try the food, but I was mainly interested in the memory care part. From what I read, they keep everyone active, including residents with dementia. The building was new and well-maintained compared to other places I visited.

"Family-Owned Facility Needs More Staff and Larger Rooms"
We chatted with them over the phone, and got to know that it was family owned, and people seemed really pleased with them, but the sizes of their rooms were disappointing. My other concern was the number of staff vs. the number of residents, which was just borderline according to what I saw. I even questioned the lady who was showing us around, asking what they do when someone on the staff gets sick. She told me they do their best to find a replacement, but what if they couldn't? Then they'd fail to meet the minimum requirement for staff to resident ratio mandated by the state, and she agreed with me on that.
