Summerfield Retirement

"Supportive staff and smooth move-in, meals need improvement."
They were really helpful from the start, assisting with hospital and rehab paperwork before we moved in. The process of moving was easy, they accommodated my schedule well, and they were friendly enough to let me settle in a couple of days early. The meals were great at first, but after the switch from Truewood to Summerfield, they've become less satisfying. I hope they improve again. I can text them, which is convenient, but the front desk often doesn't answer the phone. Overall, I'd recommend them to others. It's been a month and a half, and I'm very happy with everything. It's one of the nicest and friendliest places I considered.

"Mixed Experience with Medication Handling, Otherwise Wonderful Facility"
The staff at Truewood Assisted Living is very friendly and welcoming. When our loved one first moved in, there were some issues with getting their prescribed medications. Even though we provided the medications ourselves, they were not administered for a couple of days until our loved one was officially in the system, which was a bit worrying. Then, there was an incident where the medication was misplaced, causing another delay in receiving meds for a couple more days. Truewood verbally assured us they would cover the cost of the medications, but we ended up being billed for them instead. Despite these concerns with medication management, everything else about Truewood Assisted Living is excellent. The housekeeping is top-notch, and the food is wonderful.

"Mixed feelings about Truewood by Merrill Bradenton assisted living"
Truewood by Merrill Bradenton is okay, but there are issues. At night, they don’t handle medications well and there’s only one nurse for everyone. My family member stayed there for three weeks, but I decided to take her out.

"Appalling Neglect and Disrespect at Failing Senior Living Facility"
Avoid this disaster of a senior care facility at all costs. The problems start at the very top, with tons of staff leaving all the time. It feels like a battle, us against them. There's zero respect or understanding. Most of the helpers don't even have the right training. Staff members don't even respond, not even to the emergency bell. I personally saw a man fall and none of the helping staff even glances away from their phones. The head boss is rude at best. Where did the good old days go, when the manager would go around, saying hi and chatting with everyone? I've had a fantastic career, and I can tell you that this was by far the worst experience of my whole life. Make sure you keep your family safe, they might be too scared to mention it.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs Better Care and Advocacy"
This place could use more options for therapy, massages, and help with VA cases. They should also be more attentive to personal needs. I hoped the staff would be more supportive, but they seem uninvolved and indifferent.

"Nice community with some confusion about care responsibilities"
This place was really nice during the tour and signing up our loved one. They gave us a big book to review. They seem to care about our loved one. We are confused about who to ask our questions about our loved one. It's hard to know who does what for their care. They serve three meals a day and plenty of snacks to the residents.

"Satisfactory Assisted Living Experience"
Our time here has been good. It's better than the last place my loved one was at. I think they need more staff, but most places do. If your loved one needs more help, they'll move them to Memory Care instead of Assisted Living. Right now, meals are buffet style while they update the kitchen. I think once the kitchen is done, the meals will get better.

"A Good Deal at Truewood by Merrill Bradenton"
Truewood by Merrill Bradenton is a nice place, and overall, it’s a good deal. The activities director stays busy all the time, organizing get-togethers with musical guests, entertainment, crafts, bowling, and Margarita Mondays. My one-bedroom apartment has a fridge, cabinet space, and a nice bathroom, plus a fairly big closet. I would recommend it to others.

"Disappointing Experience at Truewood by Merrill Bradenton"
This place doesn't respond well. Hard to reach staff. The kitchen's been under construction for 3 months. They use cheap paper plates and tiny Styrofoam cups for meals. Wouldn't suggest it to others.

"Wonderful Staff and Beautiful Nature Preserve"
After checking out this place, we almost chose it, but then my mom had a stroke and that changed things a bit. This place is a lot bigger than others we saw and I thought it might be too much for her to get used to. It has a great nature preserve which I loved, but I didn't think mom would enjoy it as much as I did. The staff was super friendly and nice, and the place was really well cared for and very clean.

"Substandard Assisted Living at Summerfield"
I truly wouldn't suggest anyone take their loved one to Summerfield; it's a fairly unsatisfactory establishment. There are countless roaches, and the kitchen leaves a lot to be desired. The memory care units are downright unclean, and the staff conduct themselves poorly. They disrespect family members; I even caught one behaving badly towards a relative. So, my mother from their care. The facility struggles significantly with effective communication.

"A Tour for Care for Dad"
We toured this community for my dad's care. We didn't like the boardwalk as it didn't seem safe for residents. The staff was nice, and the community seemed clean. There were also activities offered. We suggest families tour this community. If the boardwalk is repaired, it would be a nice place for residents to enjoy.

"Loved it, but the room didn’t have a view."
We loved the place, and it was within our budget. The residents looked happy, and there were lots of bright, sunny sitting areas. The only downside was that the room didn’t have a view.

"Not Really Impressed with Run-Down Senior Home"
I didn't really like my visit to this senior home. The place seemed run down. I think it needs a makeover. We didn't find it attractive. It felt like a place you go when you're nearing the end. It just wasn't a good fit for my parent's needs.

"Care Concerns at Assisted Living Facility"
My family member isn't getting enough one-on-one attention, which I expected. The staff doesn't communicate well with us. We had to hire extra help for her outside activities. She has to remind them to keep things tidy. The staff doesn't try hard to involve her in activities. I'm unhappy with the place right now. I hope it gets better.

"Beautiful, clean, and excellent care for my mom!"

"Mom's Happy with Summerfield Living"
My mom did not want to go to assisted living, but after one visit to Summerfield, she asked, "When is the moving truck coming?" We were so happy to find a place where she felt like she belonged right away, thanks to the friendly staff. She's only been there for two weeks, but she has no complaints and enjoys having her own space. She can stay alone or join others her age for different activities. Mom seems glad she doesn't have to worry about daily chores anymore, even if she won't admit it! My husband and I have visited many times without warning and were usually pleased. Our only worry is that the caregivers aren't as attentive when the head nurse is off duty. One time, she didn't get her meds on time. But when the nurse is there, everything runs smoothly. Overall, we're very pleased and hope Summerfield continues to meet our high expectations for helping my mom enjoy life.

"Inadequate Staff and Services at Summerfield Retirement"
We haven't been happy with Summerfield Retirement, particularly with their memory care section. It looks like they don't have enough staff to effectively look after those with memory issues. Overall, the place feels lacking in staff, and the ones they do have seem young, insufficiently trained, and occasionally rude. The time it takes for them to respond to care needs is slow. In addition, there have been issues with their maintenance and laundry services. It seems they are looking to hire more people, but as I write this, their current staff isn't cutting it.

"Great Place with Some Weekend Staff Issues Being Fixed"
The food is great, and the place is clean. The only problem is that one wing has aides on the weekends who aren’t very responsive and not doing their job well. The new management is aware of this and seems to be making the right changes to fix it. I would recommend them. Both my parents live there, and I feel good about it.

"Positive Start at Summerfield Assisted Living"
I checked out this place and had long talks with the staff. I also looked around at other places like this before deciding to bring my mom here. She hasn't moved in yet, so I can't really say how good the care and activities are. But, my experience with Summerfield so far has been really good. The place is clean and looks nice, and it seems like they run things well. The folks I talked to were friendly and knew what they were doing, and they always answered my questions quickly.

"Checked Out - Mom Approved, But Too Spacious"
Checked this out - Mom was really into it. She really dug the garden path and the open feel. Thought the place was cool. Yet, it was a bit too large for what they're used to.

"Summerfield Truly Cares About Their Residents' Well-being"
Coming from a business world where competition is fierce, I understand how balancing costs with profits and service is crucial for survival. Although I wish my mom could have personal, 24-hour attention, I know that’s often out of reach without spending a lot of money. A 1-to-1 ratio of caregivers to clients is just not affordable for most people. That said, the team at Summerfield has never made me feel like money is their main concern. I’m very grateful for their positive attitude and dedication to elder care. Dealing with aging every day must be tough, but they handle it with respect and kindness. I have deep respect, sincere gratitude, and full support for Summerfield. Thank you!

"Poor Fit and Lack of Personal Care"
We moved her from there after only two weeks as she was so unhappy. The facility just wasn't a good fit. She spent her time by herself and we knew it wasn't going well; she wasn't getting the one-on-one care she needed. We've now hired someone to help her at her own house, and it's a much better situation for her.

"Overall, Very Happy"
We're really happy with them overall. We've had a few small issues with the care. The staff is very nice, but they're not always around when needed. One time, my mom did her laundry herself because she didn't think they would come, and it would help if they reminded her of the schedule.
