Sumter Place in the Villages

"Not Quite the Right Fit"
This place wasn’t quite right for my loved one’s needs. The tour was good, and I learned everything I needed from the staff. But it just didn’t match what we were looking for.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Care and Management"
I don't suggest this place. They changed managers while we were there. There was a lot of stealing while my family member stayed. They went two weeks without being cleaned once. The people living there didn't seem happy when we visited. I didn't like how the staff treated my family member. The managers didn't help with issues.

"Assisted Living Facility Falters: Food, Cleanliness, and Staff Shortage Issues"
My mom stays here. She doesn't like the food. Food got worse. Not enough staff, sheets not cleaned sometimes. Few old workers try hard, but too much to do. Hard to find working washer and dryer.

"Satisfied Parents in Newly Managed Facility"
Ownership recently changed with new summer staff. My parents reside here, and I visit twice weekly. Some residents seem more suited to memory care than assisted living. Additional fees apply for help with showering and dressing. Despite this, my parents enjoy their time here they're always occupied and praise the food. Any issues that arise are promptly addressed by the attentive staff.

"Neglected Elderly at Assisted Living Facility Calls for Improvement"
Why should we care what someone who only toured this facility has to say? Real reviews should come from individuals currently living there or know someone who does. This place is not suitable for your loved ones if you're seeking peace of mind. They don't take proper care of their residents. It's shocking to see how my grandma is being treated. She wore the same outfit for days until I realized she was sleeping in it because no one helped her change into her nightwear. When I did help her change, I was disheartened to see lots of dry, dead skin. The negative attitude from staff members filters down from the top. None of the employees seem happy working here. The head nurse always seems too busy to answer the phone or return calls. When I brought this up to the aides, they simply rolled their eyes, almost saying, "That's just how it is here." The dining room also has some wait staff with limited intelligence struggling to serve seniors who have perhaps lost some sharpness. This is simply ridiculous. I'm currently looking for a new place for my grandma, somewhere safe and providing the quality care we are paying for but she's not getting here.

"Sumter Place: Residents' Children Frustrated by Poor Assistance"
I must echo the sentiment of the other negative review. My family member resides in this facility and the assistance provided is greatly insufficient, even for basic tasks like dressing and bathing. I'm unsure if it is possible to find an elderly care home where exemplary service is provided, yet it is apparent that this one fails to do so. In my discussions with other children of residents at Sumter Place, I've learned that one has resorted to hiring additional outside help, another is preparing to relocate their parent, and some are actively seeking better alternatives due to the dismal care this facility offers.

"Assisted Living Community Review"
I really liked this community when I visited. The staff I met were very friendly. It's family-owned and offers lots of nice amenities. Everything looked well cared for. However, it didn't feel right for my loved one.

"Assisted Living Tour Feedback"
I had a nice tour of Sumter Place in The Villages. The place was really clean when I visited, and the lady who showed me around was nice and answered all my questions. The only thing I didn't like was the size; it's pretty big and I was hoping for something smaller for my mom.

"Poor Hygiene and Service at Assisted Living Facility"
My mom-in-law stayed in this place for about two and a half months. She always had to wait forever for someone to help her, whether she needed to use the bathroom or get dressed. Despite paying for it, they wouldn't bathe her. Because of that, she started having health issues and even got infections from not being kept clean. She had to go to the hospital in the end. Don't let the nice building fool you; this place isn't any good. The management is super messy.

"Nice staff, but setup not what I wanted"
I toured this place, but it didn't really impress me. The setup wasn't what I wanted. The staff was nice and they had areas for different needs. I would still recommend it to friends and family.

"Feels like family, great food, and friendly staff"
My husband and I lived in the Villages for 10 years. When he needed more care, we chose assisted living because he didn't want aides coming and going. I stayed in our home and visited him every day. It was the best choice we could have made. He stayed there for 2 1/2 years. We were treated like family. He made friends, the food was GREAT, and the staff treated him like their own. The residents were friendly, and everyone knew us. Every holiday was a big celebration. After 2 years, he moved to the memory care building. Some of his friends moved too, and the food was still from the main kitchen, so it was familiar and good. His medical needs were taken care of, and there were lots of activities to keep him busy. I don't understand the complaints from other people.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Facility; Fails to Live Up to Promises"
My folks live there presently and can't wait to move out! The place just isn't what it promises. The meals are awful. The staff treats people disrespectfully and the management could use a serious shake-up. It seems like a lot of the staff really don't care about the elderly folks living there. Two good apples, Eddie and Marilyn, work there, but they can't possibly keep the whole place running smoothly. They run out of basic provisions all the time. Activities for residents are pretty scarce. Consider other homes if you need one. This place has just let us down too many times. It's too tense having to move in then out so quickly. Seems like a bunch of folks are always coming and going. DON'T DO IT! You're going to regret ever stepping foot in here.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Facility Experience"
This place was just too big and felt too distant. They didn't even have memory care, which was a big letdown. I set up a meeting with a lady, but she didn't even bother to show up. When we finally arrived, another woman gave us a tour, and it was not pleasant at all. The building itself wasn't terrible, but everything seemed chaotic and unorganized. I wouldn't consider sending my mom there.
