"Caring staff, needs new common room and activities"
The staff was very caring to my husband and me. I think they could use a new common room and more activities. I loved the staff and how caring they were with both of us. They let me be with my husband any time, day or night! They were great about calling if there was a problem, even 911.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Safety and Food Quality"
During our 5-day stay, I helped 2 residents stuck by the elevator door. The door wouldn’t open, posing a danger. The automatic doors haven’t worked for at least 2 weeks. It's risky. Meals, a total of 6, were all served on plastic plates, cups, and cutlery. We were told it's because the dishwasher has been broken for six weeks. Food quality is terrible! Ordered roasted cauliflower, got canned mixed veg. Ordered blackened fish, got plain fish. Staff can't even prepare simple dishes like blackened fish. Ordered a club sandwich, got a basic sandwich on white bread with cheese slices. There's more, but I can't fit it all here.

"Friendly Community with Varied Activities, Meals Need Improvement"
We chose this community because it offers many activities and has more people, including lots of senior veterans. The studios are spacious, and the staff is helpful. The rent is affordable, and local stores are within walking distance. The residents are friendly, and there are plenty of activities to enjoy. The staff is helpful, although sometimes the meals can be served hot or cold, but they always fix it. However, the food could be better.

"Elance Assisted Living Review"
Elance, formerly known as the Fountains, has some issues. The food is not great, and they had to eat off paper plates when the dishwasher was broken. Weekly cleaning is terrible, and even in assisted living, dusting seems to be a challenge. Independent living is worse—no dusting, dirty stove burners, and reminders needed for bathroom cleaning. Laundry mishaps and long waits for clothes return are common. Communication is lacking—no Facebook or Instant message responses, and emails take forever. Elevators often have problems, especially since there's no freight elevator for move-ins during the day. If you have a medical emergency, good luck. On the bright side, the buildings look nice and smell great, thanks to the maintenance team.

"Disappointing Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
My mom lived there a year. Then they said no more Medicare. We had 45 days to leave. The staff didn't help. Mom's care got worse. Food expired. Clothes on floor. No shower for over a week. We asked for records. They promised but didn't send. Staff and supervisors lied. Had to do a nurse interview myself. Moving only after hours. No refund for moving fee. New place wants the fee too. Once Elance took over, we weren't important. Can't imagine if no family nearby.

"Disappointing experience with some bright spots; left due to concerns"
The place was dirty and the food wasn't good. They promised fancy stuff like salmon and steak but never delivered. The girl in the lunchroom was rude all the time. The people who cleaned the place were also rude. Why do they hire such mean people? But, the big bosses were really nice and helpful. The physical therapy folks were great too. The maintenance guys were kind and helpful. The dining room boss was super nice. We left after 4 months because we didn't want to stay there forever, especially since the prices were going up.

"Assisted Living Concerns: Elevator Safety and Food Quality"
The Fountains' scenery is lovely, and prices seem fair. But, the elevator troubles worry me. Only two people allowed, and one elevator's out - a big problem with so many floors and residents unable to use stairs. The food isn't just bad; it's inedible. People resort to buying their meals. Few dine in the dining room, maybe due to the elevator issue. This isn't just about health; it's also about safety. When can we expect fixes? I understand the challenges of the pandemic, though.

"Affordable and Comfortable Assisted Living with Friendly Staff"
I'd rate them positively. I feel comfortable here, and the staff is friendly. The dining area used to serve good food before COVID. Now, the food is delivered to our rooms, but it's not as warm and the selection isn't as good as it used to be. The delivery setup needs improvement. One important thing to consider is the price; it's much better compared to other communities I visited. Overall, it's as good as it gets.

"Fantastic community with great views, staff, activities, and food."
This is a fantastic community with amazing views, friendly staff, lots of activities, and good food. We visited 8 places before picking this one. Some had better food, but most were worse. The food here has enough variety to keep it interesting. The dining hostess is fantastic. After three visits, she knows your name and makes sure you’re comfortable. She helps with your walker and introduces you to everyone at your table. Your tablemates are always helpful, letting you know what’s good and what the menu doesn’t say. There are so many activities each day that you can’t do them all. On Saturday evenings, we gather for a show or concert in the auditorium. The staff plans lots of special events, like a Halloween party that was so popular there wasn’t enough room. There are weekly outings to places like the mall, grocery stores, theaters, and the beach. The maintenance staff are great and have a “can do” attitude. They help with everything from bringing up packages to setting up your TV and hanging pictures. The only downside is housekeeping. They come every two weeks and can’t move or pick up things to clean properly. Despite this, the hospitality group does a great job making your move to The Fountains easy. Volunteer residents help new people feel comfortable. We’ve been here for three months and love it.

"Don't trust the good reviews, this living facility falls short"
This assisted living home is really disorganized, it's like nobody who works there knows anything. Every time I ask about my dad's care plan, they promise to find out and call me back, but they never do. They completely fooled us about the Veterans Aid and Assistance Program, making it sound like it would definitely cut the cost of living in half. But actually, that assistance isn't a sure thing, it's tough to get and we found that out too late. I feel like their employees don't know anything, because every time I ask a question, I get different answers or even no answer at all. And what's worse, my father has had to wait for half an hour just to get his medication and also for his meals. The longest he ever waited for food was an entire hour. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone. There's definitely other places that are more organized, cheaper and where they actually take good care of the people living there.

"Outstanding care and leadership during a challenging time!"
To the friends and families of those living at The Fountains, you should be very thankful to the Executive Director, and her dedicated team. They worked tirelessly for the past 5 days to keep your loved ones safe and well cared for. Meeting was an honor and seeing her amazing leadership during this tough time was humbling. Despite what was likely very little sleep, she stayed calm and worked hard to ensure everyone's safety, constantly communicating with her team and residents. She is truly a gift to everyone involved. If you’re looking for a retirement community for yourself or a loved one, I highly recommend The Fountains. Their commitment to safety and their emergency plan is top-notch and team, it would have been a pleasure under better circumstances. We hope you will come back to Mission Inn Resort for a relaxing visit. Thank you for caring so much about your residents. You are a blessing.

"Experience it before you decide -- I did, and I regretted it."
I spent some time here to see if I would enjoy it, and believe me, I didn't. The food? It's pretty bland and is definitely not designed for people with diabetes or heart conditions. The service? Staff are often short, unfriendly, or just not there when you need them. The activities? They're dull, and the personnel often talk to the residents as if they're little kids. The cleanliness? Gross. I saw health code violations in their tiny café (which seldom even opens). Plus, I fell sick after eating a sandwich from there. The hallways? They have a weird smell that might even be mold. The rooms? They have those lousy heating and cooling units you find in cheap motels that you can't properly adjust (another person mentioned this too). Don't believe the MANAGEMENT'S HYPE about "frolicking pelicans and playful dolphins". That's all baloney. Plus, because the building is near water, everyone has to leave whenever a storm comes in, even if it's just a minor one (not to mention the constant rust issue on the outside). To echo another person's comment, the management is just SELLING A PRODUCT. They'll tell you anything to have you live there. Spend a few days there for free and judge for yourself.

"A Good Start, Room for Improvement"
This place has been pretty good. We've had a couple of issues, but management is helping us out. Mom thinks her room is a bit small, but she likes the view from her window. The community is nice and clean, and the staff is friendly. Mom's already making friends, which is great because she's social. The dining room was good at first, but now it's not as great, and sometimes the food is cold or not so good. We've signed Mom up with the resident doctor program, and once she's settled in, she'll join the activities. We're taking it one step at a time.

"Pleasant yet Problematic: The Fountains of Boca Ciega"
I needed to find a home for my older aunt fast and A Place for Mom was a big help. One place they suggested was The Fountains of Boca Ciega, an assisted living place backed by the VA Hospital too. It's a nice spot and didn't cost much, offering different levels of care for seniors. But, the management was bad at talking to each other and I got ignored so many times. I asked for copies of some documents and never got them. My aunt passed away suddenly and we almost had to pay for two more months of rent, if it wasn't for Claire Ferry. The elevator situation is a mess - they're tiny and stop working often. If you're moving big stuff in, there’s no service elevator and The Fountains won't help. You got to hire R&M moving company - they've been shifting stuff to and from The Fountains for a long time and they do great work.

"Subpar heating/cooling in The Fountains' apartments"
Don't be tricked by the fancy front area at The Fountains - confirm for yourself the state of the living spaces. Simple reality: there's no centralized heating or cooling system serving the apartments. Instead, you'll find low-end hotel-style wall units with control buttons for 'more heat' or 'more cold' rather than a traditional thermostat. It seems the main building has central HVAC, but it doesn't extend to the personal digs. This means constant fussing around with the unit’s buttons for comfortable temps, even waking up at night to adjust. Because of this, I crossed The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay off my potential list.

"Negligent Memory Care at The Fountains"
Our time at The Fountains at Boca Ciega has been really bad. My relative is in the memory care section, and as far as I can see, there's practically no real "care" given to them. My parents stayed here for a short time, and I spent several weeks there while my dad was in the hospital. The staff was really good—responsive and accommodating, especially when my dad got sick. The building is older, and the air conditioning was a bit loud, but the location is nice, close to the water. My parents chose it because it's near where they lived. "Inferring Quality: My Experience Finding Senior Care for my Parents"
My family and I visited The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay last year, considering it for my parents who both struggle with dementia. It was important for us to find a place that would take good care of them and allow them to stay together since mom had mobility issues and had started using a walker. The Fountains is quite large with different care levels divided into sections. However, even after a thorough tour and interviews, we were uncertain if it was right for my parents. The first person you'll see in such places is usually a salesperson. They might be compassionate and care for the elderly, but they're not medically trained for elder care or handling memory issues. They reminded me of realtors. Both my parents and the salesperson suggested independent living in an apartment so they could stay together. But my parents have dementia! They'd need daily cleaning and gradually more personal care, especially for mom. The Fountains' fees seemed too high just to prepare an assisted living apartment that may not be a long-term solution. Plus, many services were extra, like housekeeping was only included twice a month. The facilities at The Fountains felt old and cramped, needing renovations to improve accessibility and to meet ADA requirements. It was a bit depressing to see so many people dressed up with nowhere to go just hanging out in the lobby. We chose Brentwood Senior Living Community instead, due to their modern apartments in the memory care unit. Here my parents can live together, with daily housekeeping and medication management included in the cost. The staff is great and really care about preserving everyone's dignity. Here's what I learned: most often the first person you meet is a salesperson. Go prepared with all your important questions. Look at the residents - are they happy or just sitting around? While cost does matter, consider if you're getting value for your money. It's beneficial if everything's included in the fee because extra services can add up quickly. These places often have vacancies and are open to negotiation - you might get a discount for the first few months or not have to pay a move in fee. Always trust your instincts. If it feels just okay, keep looking. You and your family deserve a place that gives you peace of mind knowing your loved one is safe, well taken care of and happy (the last part might take a while but it happens).

"Amazing Place! So Active and Full of Fun!"
This place has really made a big difference for my mom in just the past few months. She lives independently but gets two meals a day, transportation, and her apartment cleaned twice a month all included. They have lots of parties to celebrate special events, like Oktoberfest and Halloween. They even take them out on a boat to Boca Ciega Bay, out to eat, and on tours of navy ships and mansions in the area. The Fountains has totally changed my ideas about these kinds of places. The residents are all happy, busy, and active. They even have a 25-seat movie theater! Plus, there’s a gym and physical therapy right there, so you can get the care you need without leaving. Everyone there has been great, and my mom has really come to love it. She used to live alone in Iowa but has now made lots of new friends. When new residents move in, they get a peer mentor to help them settle in.

"Outrageous Cost for Minimal Services at The Fountains"
The price was simply outrageous. I had a small apartment where the living room and bedroom were combined which was on the lower end of their offerings. Sure, there was a nice view of the bay, but that certainly doesn't justify a $2000/month price tag. As a veteran, I get most of my healthcare from the VA. Unfortunately, The Fountains does not offer any care services and they only provide two meals per day. They do have a bunch of activities, but the majority of residents are in their 80's and 90's which doesn't allow for much social interaction. I'm only in my 70's.
