"The Oaks Shows Promise in Assisted Living Improvements"

The Oaks assisted living facility has room for improvement in dining service wait, housekeeping staff, site clearance, elevator repair, and outside lighting. As someone who advocated for senior living in Oklahoma from 1976 to 2008, I've noticed positive changes since moving from Port Charlotte after Hurricane Ian in October 2022. The Oaks is reinvesting and reformulating their ALS business model.

"Assisted Living with Friendly Staff and Active Engagement"

The staff is friendly and down-to-earth. They offer plenty of activities. We enjoy it here. My loved one is in memory care. They ensure she's clean and dressed neatly.

"Institutional Feel: A Decent But Not Ideal Option"

We checked out The Oaks of Clearwater while looking for a place for our family member to live independently. It was alright, but it felt too much like a hospital or school. So, we figured we should keep searching for something better.

"Concerns About Assisted Living Facility’s Care and Cleanliness"

If you really love your family, don’t pick this place. My wife moved in here around the middle of [date removed] and got a room on the second floor for people who need extra care. They put four people in one room, which isn’t healthy. Some workers are nice, but others just hang out on their phones a lot. I’ve seen the food they serve get cold on the table, and it doesn’t taste good. I’ve even seen workers eat the food left by the patients. The place isn’t kept very clean. One night, my wife’s room flooded, and all they did was put a sheet down and said someone would fix it the next day. Then there’s [name removed], who tries to be a social worker but isn’t good at her job. My wife fell a lot, and they didn’t write down every time it happened. Please, don’t send your loved one here.

"Unsatisfactory tour; facility unclean, dark, and malodorous."

I checked out The Oaks at Clearwater; not impressed. Unpleasant environment.

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Facility"

We’re having constant problems with the elevators. Our mail keeps getting lost and doesn’t show up in our mailbox, even though we’ve complained many times. It’s hard to find an aide when you need one because there aren’t enough staff. The dryers are slow at drying our clothes these days. Housekeeping should be cleaning every day, but they’ve only been coming around three times a week. It’s confusing because no one seems to know who’s in charge of what. We have to keep reminding them about things that need fixing. They promised us a lot before we moved in, but they seem to have forgotten all about those promises. However, it looks like the management is trying to improve things. On the Memory Care floor where my parents stay, there’s been a lot of trouble because some of the residents are very unsettled. The management hasn’t found a way to deal with this yet. They told us they would start a Montessori program, but it’s still not happening, and we’ve been paying for it since September 2022. They need more staff. The food has too much salt, oil, and it’s often breaded. We would like to see healthier options. Sometimes the food is too plain, and other times it’s too spicy. It would be nice to have something more balanced. As for activities, I’d give them three stars, but to be fair, my parents don’t really join in much. When it comes to what we’re getting for our money, having a big room is a big plus.

"Issues in Dining and Cleanliness; Concerns About Memory Care Practices"

The dining room needs more staff, and the food is okay. Some areas need better cleaning. My mother-in-law is in independent living but might move for memory care, as residents there aren't taken outside.

"Unsatisfactory Staff Assistance at Living Facility"

Don’t count on the staff here for the help you need.

"Underwhelming and Unclean: Don't Take Your Loved Ones to The Oaks"

Our visit to The Oaks was a big letdown. The place was really run down and not clean at all. It was tough to find a staff member when you needed one. Of all seven floors, there was only one elevator available to use when we were there. I would definitely not want to have someone I care about living there.

"Assisted Living Disappoints on Pet Accommodations"

During our visit, they seemed friendly, but my mother-in-law's dog was an issue. They said they could handle pets, but when she brought her dog in, they immediately asked her to put it away. They only allowed pets in her room, not in the public areas. This changed our view of the facility.

"Impersonal Assisted Living Community"

We visited this community, and it looked beautiful. The rooms were really nice with a great view. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions. However, the community felt too big and impersonal.

"Caring Staff and Beach Views"

The staff is super friendly and always connects with our family. The food isn't amazing, but the care meets her needs. Her room has a great beach view, despite the older building. The area is fantastic, with a lovely porch and beach-facing sitting area.

"Negligence and Carelessness Overwhelm Assisted Living Facility"

Please, don't trust this assisted living facility with your family. My relative, who stays here, can mostly care for herself. Although she has trouble speaking and remembering due to a stroke, she completely understands her surroundings. Despite taking seizure medicine to prevent complications following her stroke, the facility allowed her to have a seizure in front of me – they had run out of her medication. Despite their advertising, there are no regular two-hourly checks on the residents. To monitor the situation, I installed cameras in her room. Staff only entered to provide medicine twice daily and for housekeeping. Once on a late-night check-in, I horrifyingly found her fallen, and in my attempt to alert the staff, no one answered my frantic calls. I had to instruct them to dial 911 when they debated it. Their claim of being able to track resident's locations using emergency necklace is also false. Once we had an hour-long search throughout all 13 floors as we could not locate her. The emergency button had been pushed on her necklace an hour prior, and the staff did not even know how to operate the tracking system. They were about to call the police before we finally found her, safe and sound. Repeatedly, they would run out of basic medicines, like aspirin. The head nurse acknowledged the lack of efficient medication management, but the issue persisted, causing another seizure. This time, she fell and hurt her face, bleeding profusely, alone with no staff in sight. High blood pressure management was poor. I had to teach their nurse how to accurately measure blood pressure levels. Their initial reluctance to call a doctor for medication adjustment was concerning. To top it off, they even failed to address a bedbug infestation, causing us to discard all her belongings when we finally had to move her out. Regrettably, this facility is severely lacking in their duty of care.

"Best Place Ever"

My Mom has lived at The Oaks for 2 years now, we've actually been staying here since the beginning of the month at a guest rate ($85 bucks a night, cant beat it with this location!) and have enjoyed all of the activity they have. There have been many activities, such as dances, parties, even a luau. My Mom loves the Independent Living.

"My Dad at The Oaks"

My dad lived at the Oaks for almost a year before he passed away. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The team there made us feel comfortable and always kept us updated about his daily life. We are grateful Dad got to enjoy this special place before he passed. Those were some of the best moments in his final years. Thank you all for everything you do!

"Great facility with fun activities and overnight family stays!"

The staff of clearwater, showed us around the facility. I saw many families and friends visiting, even small kids. The residents put on a play of the Wizard of Oz, which was great! I really liked the choice of rooms. I would live there myself. Families can even spend the night.

"Good tour"

We visited The Oaks of Clearwater some time ago, and it was a lovely community. They gave a nice presentation and served us lunch. If the need arises for a place for my loved one, we'll definitely consider this community again.

"Best decision ever!"

I am very impressed and happy with my experience at the Oaks of Clearwater. The friendly and caring staff have gone above and beyond to make sure [] is comfortable and happy. The place is clean, smells good, and feels very welcoming. It’s the best decision we ever made!

"Friendly Atmosphere!"

The Oaks of Clearwater had a great location, but it leaned more toward assisted living than Independent Living. The facility was nice, and everyone was very friendly, but it didn't meet our needs.

"Needs an Update!"

This place was mostly nice, but it needs a remodel or update. It wasn't as clean as I expected, although the people were friendly. Just not the right fit for us.

"Amazing Community with Stunning Views and Caring Staff"

The Oaks is a fantastic place to live. My grandfather stayed in the skilled nursing area, and they helped him get the rehab he needed so he could return to Orlando quickly and be himself again. The views from the apartments are stunning. Every floor has a nice view of the water, and there's a lovely dining room on the 15th floor where you can see the water while you eat. There's always a lot of people around socializing, and there's always something happening. They’re also building a new garden area out back, which is a perfect spot for residents to relax and enjoy the beautiful Florida weather.

"Early Morning Noise and Neglect at Expensive Assisted Living"

Who on earth is in charge of the housekeeping department at Oaks? Every morning I was woken up at 6:30 am by the loud chatter and laughter of the housekeeping staff. Not only did I find their conduct unprofessional, but their conversations - carried on loudly in Spanish - were disruptive. I couldn't even tell if I was in the USA or in another country. Is Oaks supposed to be a hotel or a senior living facility? I don't understand why the housekeeping staff would be making such a racket so early in the morning. Considering the amount of money I've spent here, I could have comfortably stayed at a 5-star hotel instead. I can't help but feel extremely disappointed and feel it's time to move my mom out of Oaks. I didn't notice any stellar service being provided, just staff members aimlessly wandering around instead of cleaning the apartments. I ended up having to clean my mom's bathroom myself because it looked untouched for a long while. I can't stand by silently and just had to report Oaks to the Better Business Bureau (B.B.B).

"Excellent care and kindness at The Oaks at Clearwater"

The nurse who took great care of me, Vickie, was wonderful. She went above and beyond for me and the other Nancy by the window. My late husband always wanted to come here too.

"Friendly Staff"

The apartments are a bit small, but they’re nice, and the place is always clean. The staff is friendly and professional. The food could be better, but it’s not awful. They resolved communication issues quickly.

"Nice facility, friendly staff, elevator issue"

At The Oaks of Clearwater, they do a good job overall. The facility looks nice and clean, and the staff are friendly and professional. My main concern is the limited two elevators, especially during meal times and activities.

"Decent Facilities But Would Prefer A Different Selection"

The Oaks of Clearwater isn't too bad. The view of the water is great and the staff are pretty nice and work well. But the food isn't that great, the rooms are tiny and they need better elevators. The prices are okay compared to others. If I could choose again, I might go somewhere else.

"The Oaks of Clearwater: Excellent Staff and Care"

The Oaks of Clearwater: The staff has been wonderful and very helpful. They are responsive to our questions and extremely helpful. The caregiving staff is excellent! The food and activities are both excellent. My parents are very happy. I highly recommend The Oaks of Clearwater to others; in fact, I already have.

"Great Community with Friendly Staff, Some Communication Issues"

Our loved one hasn't been here long, but things are going well! It's a nice-looking place, and the staff are very friendly and professional. They take good care of the residents and have lots of activities. Our only concern is that it can be hard to get in touch with the administrative staff. However, after a bit of persistence and another call about our loved one's transition struggles, they were responsive and willing to help, which made us feel much better. It's important to stay in touch with key staff.

"Great place with beautiful views and lots of activities"

My mother has lived at The Oaks in her 11th-floor apartment for two months now, and here’s what I’ve noticed. The studio apartment is very clean and nicely furnished. The weekly maid service is excellent and quick. The unit has a small kitchen with a refrigerator, sink, and lots of cabinet space. The bathroom is big and has safety features like a walk-in tub and great lighting. The staff we’ve met has been helpful, friendly, and attentive. There are always plenty of activities, including special trips outside the complex, during the day and evening. The view of Clearwater Harbor is beautiful, and the grounds are well-kept. The dining room is spacious, the servers are efficient, and the food is good and plentiful. The only issues are the lack of enough elevators for the number of residents (but we’ve been told two more will be added soon) and limited guest parking, especially on weekends. Overall, I’m very pleased with The Oaks and would highly recommend it.

"Helpful Staff and Great Activities!"

I haven't been to the facility, but based on my phone conversations with them, they've been great. I spoke with the marketing director, and she was really helpful. It was tough to get my mom to agree at first, but the director made the process smoother, including helping with the move. Even though my mom is in independent living, a nurse sees her once a week, and they have a doctor on-site. When my mom first moved in, the doctor checked her out and said she could live independently, which was a pleasant surprise for us! My mom loves the activities, especially Bingo, which she's won a few times. They also go to church, the beach, and Walmart. She gets three meals a day if she wants, and her room has a small kitchen with a fridge but no stove. I like the place so much, I’d want to go there when I’m older! Definitely recommend it.

"Disappointment Due to Poor Communication and High Price"

I'm bummed out about the lack of communication and high costs at this assisted living facility. I'm actually considering a move to a different place. The facility itself doesn't make the grade. When falls happened, no one got in touch! No heads up or anything- very disappointing. I strongly discourage others from using their services. For the amount I'm shelling out, I should be kept in the loop about major incidents. A silver lining is the food selection, it's pretty good. My loved one does get his very own room with a fridge but meals are only served in the common dining area.
