"Avoid The Pavilion: Poor Management and Safety Concerns"
For nearly eight years, my aunt has lived at the Pavilion, a place I absolutely do not suggest choosing for your family. The management is bad, with a director lasting only around half a year at best. They never call you back, and being a local from Venice, I can drop by anytime. Surprisingly, I've struggled to find someone in charge during my weekday visits. It's worth noting that the nurses and helpers are caring and doing their best, but they're limited by the lack of concern from the owner. About a year ago, they had a serious mold problem they claimed to have solved. Plus, the elevator hasn't been functioning properly for the past year, always needing a reset. The facility is an old, three-story building with most residents dependent on walkers or wheelchairs. In case of a fire, imagine them trying to use the stairs. I've discussed this with Venice's Fire Chief, who says he's powerless because the building has sprinklers installed.

"Honest advice about suitability of the facility"
I live in another state and talked to someone on the phone about this place. After I explained what my loved one needed, the man said he didn’t think it would be a good fit for my mom. It’s a tall building and she needed too much care. I appreciated their honesty.

"Great Care in Historic Venice Facility"
The Pavilion of Downtown Venice has cared for my dad for 7 years. The building feels like an old-world landmark. The staff is caring, patient, and experienced. They handle any situation an elderly person might have. They communicate with family members quickly and professionally, but also with compassion.

"Unkept Facility is Neglectful, Inconsistent, and Serves Tasteless Food"
One person owns this assisted living facility and a different company runs it. The place is just plain dirty. Windows are cracked, toilets and sinks don't function properly, and the bathroom counters are falling to pieces and are even getting moldy. The plumbing is a constant problem. The staff promises the residents that they will fix things, but getting them to follow through is like pulling teeth. They're terrible at communicating with the families, too! Talking about the Covid measures, one day I was allowed in and the next day I was suddenly not. The staff even shouted at me for not wearing a mask, but then in the same breath, she welcomed me inside! This kind of inconsistency makes life hard for the residents, who all seem pretty blue. The food is really bad, too. Most of it is tasteless. My family member isn't getting enough to eat and is way too thin. We've tried to address this problem multiple times, but they just can't seem to get that he needs more meat and vegetables, not just more carbs!

"Shoddy Living Facility Saved Only by Its Pleasant Staff"
The single positive aspect of this assisted living center is their pleasant staff. Honestly, the facility is disgustingly dirty. They assured us the room would be tidy before my friend moved in, it wasn't. With COVID, the restriction of inspecting places beforehand complicates matters. The lease allows an exit within 30-45 days, depending on who you ask or what the contract says. The contract is disorganized, making it tough to find details. A simple act like page correction seems too much to bother with. The place is so grimy I can't imagine leaving my dog there. Beware the marketing pitch - despite promises of improvements by new owners. The appearance of the entrance alone reveals the reality. I pointed out the need for intense cleaning and they agreed. A week later, no action has been taken. My friend, hearing resident complaints about the grime on the first day he was there, was shocked. I trust those who care for their loved ones can find superior facilities. They claim past negative reviews were due to previous management under 'The Summit.' If so, this place is still following in The Summit's condemning footprints.

"New manager lifts spirits; owner neglects center's appearance."
I recently visited the Venice Center - I had been there a few months earlier too. There's a new manager now, and she's possibly the nicest lady I've ever met. Her sunny demeanor has made a clear change in both the staff and the residents, everyone's happier and more lively. Sadly, the outside of the building is a mess. The parking lot is full of dumpsters and trash, and dead trees that need to be cut down are everywhere. What makes it worse is that it seems like the owner doesn't care - the place has had five administrators in the past year alone. It looks like the new manager can't do much about it because her hands are tied by the owner's decisions. That's why I'm giving this place a half-star review. The new manager is wonderful, but the owner really needs to invest some money to clean up this place. It's been a dump for quite a while now!

"Terribly Unhygienic Facility Fails at Basic Care Standards"
This place is honestly the worst living community I've ever seen. I'm not new to nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and memory care units, but this one suffers from poor hygiene from the second you pull open that front door. The overpowering stench of urine could make your eyes water, and you instantly want to leave. The person I was visiting didn't seem to have been groomed or cleaned for quite some time. The building is falling apart. I'm shocked that the authorities haven't closed this place down. I'm certain it would fail every possible inspection.

"Photos misleading for aged, crumbling Venice care home"
The people who own this old place are letting it fall apart, almost to the point of no return. Those photos you see online of the facility are not at all accurate! It's really sad for the people living there, and for the whole city of Venice too.

"Elderly Woman Wanders Off From Negligent Assisted Living Facility"
I don't have any family there but I had an incident about them just YESTERDAY. I was on vacation, sitting a block away from this facility. A man in our condo area yells from his 5th-floor window asking for help with an elder woman who fell and I couldn't see her from where I was. I got up and went over, saw her on her hands and knees, and assisted her up. She was disoriented, thinking she was going inside our condo, believing it was a grocery store. I sat her down and asked her her address, she knew she lived at Venice Center but didn’t know where it was. It was JUST A BLOCK AWAY, IN OUR LINE OF SIGHT. I didn’t know it was so close (since I live over a thousand miles away) so I looked it up and called. No answer at first, but a man picked up the second time. He confirmed she lived there and vaguely suggested someone might pick her up. So my wife and I helped her back since the facility was nearby, given the fact she could hardly walk. We were met by a startled employee who seemed unaware that this woman resided there, despite the resident on the phone confirming it. This employee was more worried about the woman signing in rather than engaging with us. The man from the call caught up with us and explained the facility was not a good place with reports of food poisoning, wandering seniors, and other negative situations that slipped my mind. If this is a care center for memory, how did this woman escape unnoticed? Why are residents picking up calls rather than the employees? To make it worse, 4 hours later as I was at the airport, I got a call from someone from the facility asking about my earlier call. I explained the whole thing and she assured me she'd look into it - a bit too late, don’t you think? If this woman has children, I'd suggest they transfer her immediately. My only rating is a zero-based on this incident. Whatever state agency is supposed to oversee these homes needs to do a thorough inspection.

"Dramatic Decline in Quality at Former 'Summit' Assisted Living"
Over the past year, this spot has turned into a mess. There aren't enough staff, it's not clean, and it's run badly. Even the way they give out medicine is often sloppy. This assisted living home is nothing like it used to be when we knew it as the Summit.

"Terrible Conditions at Assisted Living Facility Unfair to Residents"
This place has gone downhill. It's messy, not enough staff and the meals are no good. It seems like no one's running the show, and it was frequently hard to get assistance for my mom. I can't put all the wrongs on the employees since they're being paid too little, lack the right training, and are doing way too much work. The new owner has let things get worse. The people living here should be treated better than this!

"Declining Care and Short Staffing at Assisted Living Facility"
Each time this place has changed hands, things have just gotten worse. The last time I went, I saw burnt-out light bulbs in the dining area and there was hardly any staff around. They said only one poor soul was in charge of cleaning all three floors. Trying to locate staff to help out the residents was a total nightmare. Honestly, the whole situation is a complete mess.

"Great location! Friendly staff and nice apartments!"
This place is really nice! It's in a great location with a beautiful garden and courtyard. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I was greeted right away and got an informative tour from a polite and knowledgeable salesperson. The apartments are clean, spacious, and updated. I plan to bring my father back for a tour and will definitely recommend Summit at Venice.
