"Would Recommend Brookside Stone Mountain for Assisted Living"
My spouse has Alzheimer's, so he can't give his opinion. He has been living here for one month, and I'm still checking out the place. Based on what we've seen so far, we would recommend the Brookside Stone Mountain community to other families.

"Terrible experience. Place needs new management and better training."
My mom and our whole family had a really bad experience with this place. I honestly don't think anyone ought to go there. They make big promises about the services they offer, but they just don't deliver. The facility should just be sold to someone who'd actually care. The workers keep changing all the time. They're way too understaffed, don't get enough training, and don't act professional at all.

"Brookside Stone Mountain Falls Short"
My family member lived at Brookside Stone Mountain, but it wasn't a great experience. After we moved them in, the management changed, and things got worse. The new staff didn't communicate well, and there were conflicts with the nurse. We eventually had to move our loved one elsewhere after they had two strokes.

"Memory Care Falls Short at Brookside Stone Mountain"
Brookside Stone Mountain was nearby, but that's the only good part. The memory care area felt like a dark, locked basement, honestly. The people and assisted living side were okay, but memory care seemed like an afterthought.

"Brookside Stone Mountain Fails at Proper Senior Care"
Since my mom moved to Brookside Stone Mountain nine months ago, we've seen three different managers. None of them seem to know what they're doing. The staff numbers are low - they only have one person assigned to each shift. Day, evening, or night, it's always one person. They don't seem to know how to care for their residents properly. My mom's only safe meal is breakfast. The rest of the food they serve seems like stuff you'd feed a teenager. They don't care if she has specific dietary needs, like needing low sodium foods. I've never seen a dietician there, and they never have a menu, so you never know what the food will be ahead of time. They have a so-called "always available" menu, but when my mom asks for it, the staff give her attitude. They say things like, "Why do you want that?" The cleaning of her room is also not good. They recently just cleaned it after three weeks. It's like they don't care, like they don't even know the basics of caring for people. Despite labeling themselves as an "Assisted Living Facility", the State Ombudsman actually classifies them as a personal care home. This was a shocking revelation to us. My mom has fallen twice and had to call 911 herself because they didn't respond to her call buttons. They just turn them off and move on. The phone also goes unanswered, and they leave the door unlocked all day. Anyone can just walk in and stroll around. We've spoken to them about our concerns, but while they seemed to listen and make small changes afterwards, everything still isn't up to the standards we'd like for our mom. My mom isn't getting enough sleep because they don't have enough staff to get her to bed and up again at reasonable times. The evening shift puts her to bed and the morning shift wakes her up. That means she doesn't sleep until after 10:30pm and she's up again at 5:30am. We chose Brookside because we could afford it and it seemed to offer all we needed. But if this is what staying in budget means, I'm disappointed. My mom is over 80 and doesn't deserve this. Thankfully, we haven't seen any outright abuse, but there's definitely a disrespect in the way staff treat her, which makes her feel less than she is. I worry about how they treat residents who can't voice their concerns. We found this place through "A Place for Mom", and I regret trusting them. We're moving my mom from Brookside because of the problems. As of Monday, Brookside is also raising the rent which isn't acceptable. All I can say to others considering this place is, we've had a bad experience, so be cautious.

"Assisted Living Review"
This place is close to us, which we liked. But most of the time, they didn't have enough staff, and it seemed like they needed better training. Some staff were great, while others were terrible. Still, they did take care of her. I visited her every day, which I think helped her get more attention. You have to make your presence known. They had a few exercise classes for the residents, where they'd toss a ball to each other. Sometimes they had holiday parties with entertainment. They tried to keep everyone active. We cleaned our rooms ourselves, but they were a good size with big windows for sunlight.

Some of the people who take care of the residents are nice and kind, but there are also some who aren't. They don't have enough staff especially in the evenings and on weekends, and it seems like there's no one in charge during those times.

"Caring Assisted Living with Budget-Friendly Convenience"
Our loved one is adjusting well at Brookside Stone Mountain. Although the facility is older and could use some updates, they provide good care. The staff is friendly and attentive. The memory care section has fewer residents—only about 12—compared to the previous facility with 60 residents. The staff-to-resident ratio is better here, and our loved one seems to enjoy the meals. Conveniently located, it fits our budget.

"Brookside Stone Mountain: Decent Care, Better Staff-Resident Ratio"
Our family member is adjusting well to life at Brookside Stone Mountain. Though the place is a bit old and could use some sprucing up, they're doing a great job meeting his needs. The staff are warm and genuine. We chose this place for a higher level of care and better staff attention. Another plus is the smaller number of residents in the memory care unit - only 12, compared to the 60 at his last place. Because of this, Brookside Stone Mountain has more staff members per resident. The staff are approachable, and they respond well to our questions and concerns about our family member. He seems to like the food. This place is conveniently located, and we can take him out a few times a week. It's also affordable for us.

After searching all over for quality senior living for my mom, I was really let down by most places. They had low monthly apartment rates, but care costs were super high. Plus, they were run by strict managers who wouldn’t budge on price or room options. When I found this place, it was such a relief. My mom thrived here, and the pricing worked out great. The new management knows the community well and paid close attention to our needs. Price, location, staff, appearance, and activities all deserve 5 stars (and yes, I’m a bit biased because my mom lived here!). Definitely give them a call and see for yourself!

completely messed up my schedule for visits, and the numerous times I tried to reach them, no one picked up the phone. This is definitely not where we will be going.

The Brookside Stone Mountain was an older building, but the staff was super nice and welcoming. I visited about three times and chatted with the folks in the kitchen and at the front desk. "Poor Care Led to Mom's Hospitalization"
My mom stayed in the memory care section of this assisted living home. They are modernizing the place but didn't do a great job cleaning up after the work. Only one caregiver seemed truly ready and capable to handle those with memory care needs. Most of the staff didn't spend enough time looking after the residents. My mom didn't get her medication on her first day there. Because of this, she landed at the hospital, dealing with dehydration, and not getting her daily supply of oxygen.

I visited 4 places—2 were chains and 2 were privately owned. I chose Brookdale because of the services and prices. At other places, my mom would have had to share a room, and the cost would’ve gone up once we added the services she needed. I moved my mom across the country, and since Brookdale has locations everywhere, they sent a nurse to assess her, making the move much easier. When I walked in, it didn’t smell, and the staff was friendly.

"Nighttime Emergencies and Billing Confusion at Brookdale"
Brookdale Stone Mountain is a pretty old place that needs some upgrading. The folks working here are very kind and welcoming, and they treat you like you're part of the family. However, I feel like they have too much work and they can't handle it all. There have been multiple times at night when my dad needed help. We ran into this issue quite a few times. Thankfully, my dad is feeling stronger now, so he doesn't need as much help anymore. One more thing, they kind of fumble up with the billing part.

"Declining Services and Terrible Management at Assisted Living Facility"
The overall quality of this assisted living facility has drastically declined over the past year and a half. The management is horrendous, and numerous requests for maintenance and upkeep within the residents' apartments are neglected. The one bright spot amidst the downfall is the activities coordinator—the individual is a long-term employee and an absolute gem with a great understanding of her job. But the turnover that started with Brookdale hasn't shown much promise. The really commendable staff members have left, leaving only four who have been there for a significant length of time. With the prices we're paying, it's frustrating not to see the excellent services they promised while pitching their facility. I'm seriously contemplating relocating my family member elsewhere due to these disappointments.

"Disappointed Family Member Reviews Aging Care Facility"
My relative lives here and it's gotten much worse in the last year. Though the staff really tries to care, they are overworked and unable to meet everyone's needs promptly. They offer lots of activities which is great. However, the place is dirty, with worn-out rugs etc., and rooms not cleaned thoroughly enough. I've noticed dust behind toilets, on doors, inside cabinets, and sometimes even bugs. For what they charge, the level of help given is just not worth it. The attitude is that the residents should do most things themselves, which doesn't match what we were promised when we moved in. Supposed to be an 'age in place' facility, but they don't willingly ramp up assistance as needed. Also, the food is really bad, with many unhealthy options and meals that are difficult for older people to eat. They don't remember specific meal needs, like cutting up food. Plus, the food tastes weird or just plain bad. Communication with management is usually disappointing. Even though administration has brought in new people a few times, nothing has improved - it's only gotten worse. Some staff members are really nice, but all are stretched too thin, making them less helpful. My relative does appreciate the many activities they offer. Sadly, we're exploring other options because of these issues. It's hard for older people to move, but we feel it's necessary.

"Great food. Beautiful courtyard in this community."
My husband has been here for almost four years. He’d prefer to be home, but he’s accepting most days. He never complains about the food and insists the breakfasts here are the best ever! They offer opportunities to eat out two or three times a month with transportation provided, and he enjoys the change of scenery. However, he thinks the food isn’t as good in restaurants. My biggest complaint is the frequent turnover of directors. There have been many changes in management personnel since he arrived. The beautiful courtyard is well maintained. I’d like to see more activities happening there, as fresh air and sunshine would benefit residents. Unfortunately, it’s used infrequently in the summer and never in late fall or winter.

Although my mother has only been here for three weeks, my family and I are very happy with her care. Her progress has been incredible. This personal care home is far better than the nursing home she went to for rehab after her hospitalization. The best part is that the staff works with her instead of just giving her more medications. It’s unfortunate that Medicaid and other agencies don’t fully understand how important this kind of care is.

"Not Enough Staff for Proper Memory Care"
The first review of her health at the assisted living facility was incomplete. This led to her being taken to a place that wasn't suitable for her needs. She wasn't being adequately cared for. The staff decided on their own to move her to a more specialized memory care unit, which surprisingly didn't cost extra. The person who first assessed her should've directed us to memory care right from the beginning to help us understand what it involved. In the assisted living area, they gave her a small pendant to press if she needed help, but it was burden for the staff because they had to come switch it off each time. In memory care, the patients don't get this pendant. It's not realistic for her to be left in a room to shout for help when she struggles with memory issues. She ended up in the hospital a few times due to falling. While the number of caregivers to residents was higher in memory care, it still wasn't enough given the patients' needs. When we first chose this facility, everything seemed fine. The place was clean, the staff behaved professionally, but we didn't think to ask about the resident-to-caregiver ratio. Had we known it was 3:36, we might have thought twice. This was a lesson for us. Even when they moved her to the smaller, more specialized memory care unit, there were still a lot of patients for each caregiver. I don't believe they intentionally avoided noticing how much help she needed, but it felt like they were more focused on filling their beds.

"Very High Costs, Fair Nursing Care"
The cost was very high. The nursing support was okay, but the cost would use up all of his set budget. They divided their care levels into numbers and he would be at the top level. They have a basic price, and then that gets added on, so it would have cost additional.
