"Understaffed assisted living facility lacks essentials, feels outdated"

I wasn't at all pleased with this place. There weren't round-the-clock nurses on duty, which was really important for us. While I was there, just one nurse was taking care of 8 elderly folks. Also, there weren't any TVs in the bedrooms. That meant all the old folks had to go to the shared room to watch TV, making it challenging for my family member. The lady running the place was super nice. But, the place was seriously outdated. It felt like I had simply invited some folks into my own old house to look after them. I felt my relative needed more than what was offered here. Maybe others would enjoy it, but I didn't feel comfortable.

"Limited Activities, Unsafe Terrain for Elderly"

Took a tour this year. Visited both places, not too far. First stop was at dinner time, then went to the other. They feel more like homes than facilities. Only a few residents there. Not much to do besides watching TV, reading, or playing games. Too far from where I live and work. Wouldn't be a good place for my mom. The owner and main caregiver care a lot, but the places are on hilly ground. My mom, who recently fractured her hip, wouldn't be safe with her walker there. If you like the country, these might be good for someone.

"Caregiving Homes Need More Activity, Safer Grounds"

I went on a visit to two homes run by this organization earlier in 2018. The first visit was around dinner time, then we headed to the second house. Both are designed to feel more like homes than institutional places. However, I didn't see a lot of people active on the property. They had pretty limited options for fun - TV, reading, some board games and puzzles. They're too far out from where I live and work. I don't think it's the right environment for my mom either. Both the owner and the main caregiver clearly care a lot about what they're doing. But the grounds of the home are pretty hilly and my mom, who recently broke her hip, has trouble getting around with her walker. I'm worried she might stumble or fall. If you want a home in the country, this might be the right choice for somebody.
