"Huntcliff II: A Distressing Experience with Poor Management and Care"

Living at Sunrise Huntcliff II was a really terrible experience that forced me to move my Mom out after only two months. It drained me emotionally, financially, and physically. The managers at this home are not good at their jobs, unreliable, and dishonest. They don't have enough staff and some of the staffers don't even know basic things like how to bathe someone or change a diaper. The workers also have to serve food in the dining room three times a day, which means they can't answer calls for help from the residents. The place isn't properly cleaned either. The entryway and lobby look okay, but the residents' rooms are neglected even when we ask for them to be cleaned over and over. About half of the staffers do care about the residents and they try their best, but they're either poorly trained or have too many tasks to handle. The younger staffers usually work at night or during the weekend, when there's no boss around, and they do the least work possible. I wouldn't ever suggest this place to anyone, for any reason! I didn't know much when we first brought my Mom here, but I learned a lot from this bad experience. I've checked out other homes since then. I understand that there are problems in the whole industry, but Huntcliff II fails in every possible way.

"Caring Atmosphere with Disappointing Food"

I was pleased with how well my mother was cared for and how sincere the caregivers were. The moment I walked in, I knew this was the right place for her and didn't need to search any further. It felt safe and cozy, like a home. I want to stress that mealtime was something everyone could enjoy, even if they didn't have much else to look forward to. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing and not up to par. I occasionally ate meals with my mom, so I experienced it firsthand.

"Mixed Feelings About Huntcliff Summit's Tour Experience"

Our family visited Huntcliff Summit at Sunrise for a tour. It was a good tour overall, but we noticed they charge extra for assistance, which felt like they were adding on charges unexpectedly.

"Adequate Home, But Lacks Space and Odd Layout"

The living place is kind of old. It doesn’t have as much room compared to other places we’ve checked out. The way the two-bedroom is set up is pretty weird.

"Mixed Feelings About Community for Elderly Care"

We found this place to be quite pricey for what our loved one got. They did offer a good amount of activities for residents, which was nice. Our loved one was always in a wheelchair, so having her room and the dining room on the first floor was very convenient. The food seemed okay overall. We would suggest this community with caution. If your loved one is mobile, then yes, but if they need more help, we felt there weren't enough staff members.

"Food Quality Decline at Huntcliff Summit Disappoints Residents and Families"

My parents, ages 96 and 93, really enjoy living at Huntcliff Summit, except for one big problem the food. When they first moved in last year, the meals were good. But since then, the quality has gone downhill. Now, they don't look forward to eating there anymore. I don't understand why Sunrise can't figure out how to serve better meals. Healthy food is crucial for staying healthy, especially for older folks. Often, my parents ask my sister (who lives nearby) to bring them food from a restaurant or take them out to eat. This costs a lot of money on top of what they already pay to live there. I want people to know that this is a new issue at Huntcliff Summit. It's very worrying and frustrating for us. I live far away, so I can only hear about their problems from a distance. They tell me they get indigestion from almost every meal. They and many others have complained, but the food situation isn't getting any better.

"Great care, clean place, and happy residents with activities"

We like this place because of the great care here. The staff is amazing and really cares. The community is clean, and we love the healthy meals they serve. They have fun activities for the residents. My mom is happy that they have a dog for her and the other residents to enjoy. We would suggest this community to other families.

"Older Community"

My visit to this place was okay. The staff was nice. It looks older and a bit dimmer than other places we saw.

"Great Care and Good Food at Sunrise at Huntcliff Summit II"

This summer, my 90-year-old mom broke her ankle. She couldn’t go back home because it wasn’t safe anymore, so my brother and I started looking at Assisted Living communities. My mom chose Sunrise at Huntcliff Summit II because it was close to her doctors and friends, and it had a one-bedroom apartment that was just right for her. We both liked the staff we met there. We set up her apartment while she was in rehab, so when she moved in three months later, she had all her familiar things around her. The move had some challenges, but she’s a positive person, and there have been more good times than bad. She’s naturally social, and she’s really thrived with the daily care and social activities at her new home. Sunrise at Huntcliff Summit II is an older building and has had some maintenance issues while we’ve been getting my mom settled. No place is perfect, but what matters is how they handle problems. So far, any issues have been fixed quickly and efficiently, even though they don’t have a 24-hour maintenance crew. When her air conditioner broke after hours, the Executive Director came back with fans to keep her cool until the maintenance manager could fix it the next morning. Even though her new AC unit couldn’t be repaired, they replaced it right away. My mom loves good food, so it’s important that she enjoys her meals. She’s had very few complaints about the food so far. She enjoys fresh, tasty meals with plenty of fruit and vegetables, and she often tells me how good her food is. It seems like they have a great nutritionist, because the meals are varied and balanced. I’ve had more interaction with the management team than my mom, and they’ve always been kind and patient. Today, we had a meeting with most of the management team to review her care plan. They answered all our questions gracefully and professionally. What stood out the most was that they genuinely like and enjoy my mom, which goes beyond just doing their job well. Knowing that the people caring for my mom truly care about her brings peace of mind, especially since I can’t be there all the time. The quality of an Assisted Living facility depends on its people, and I think we’re lucky that my mom chose Sunrise at Huntcliff Summit II.

"Good Care and Clean Facilities"

My daughter's husband was at this place for just one month, but it was a good experience. They took very good care of him. The place looked nice and was always very clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They offered great activities. My daughter said the meals were okay. Overall, they did a good job taking care of him.

"Avoid This Facility"

I'm shocked folks bring their beloved family members here. It should be closed.

"Helpful Staff but unclear Costs and Communication Problems"

They didn't make the costs clear from the start and the price for my mom's medicine was really high. The employees were nice and took good care of my mom, but the living area was just okay. My mom doesn't stay there anymore because they kept increasing her rent. I wouldn't suggest going there because of the prices and they don't communicate well.

"Huntcliff Summit: Faulty Service, Cannot Endorse"

Choosing Huntcliff Summit for our mom was a costly error. They promised us high-quality care but were unable to deliver on these promises. Although the staff members are dedicated, they are too few in number. The facility meets only the bare minimum staffing requirements. I had to repeatedly request for my mom to be checked on because her call button was often dysfunctional. Even when the button did work, she sometimes waited up to 20 minutes for help. Despite being in hospice care, she was sent to the hospital. Despite moving my mom to another facility, financial considerations were not the driving factor. The lack of suitable care at Huntcliff Summit made it necessary for me to hire round-the-clock private care until we were able to relocate her. Despite its aesthetic appeal, I simply can't advise anyone to choose this facility. Their provision of care is far from satisfactory.

"Consider This Before Committing Your Loved Ones to Assisted Living"

They promised care they couldn't deliver when my mom lived there. They never followed specific care instructions and there was never anyone available to talk to after 5pm on weekdays or anytime on weekends. If my mom required a doctor, you had to take her yourself. They badly mishandled her medical emergencies, sending her to the hospital instead of calling hospice. What's worse, they charged for never-requested house visits by their "doctor" without ever contacting me about the results. Their shared nurse was frequently unavailable, especially after 5pm or on weekends. The management was abysmal – unable to guide staff appropriately. It cost me a lot, both emotionally and monetarily, to keep my mom there. Their sales pitch was impressive. They bragged about amenities like a hydra tub for baths available once a week. But my mom had trouble using it because the staff was unfamiliar with it. And even when she used her call button for help, they claimed they never received her request. When confronted, they considered a wait time of 15-20 minutes reasonable. It was a constant battle trying to procure the services they promised for my mom.

"Disappointed: Looks Good, Lacks Quality and Adequate Staffing"

The management here is really messy. They just can't seem to give clear instructions to their staff. The staff members themselves are really pleasant and make a big effort. However, they only have the minimum number of staff that Georgia Law says they must have. I wouldn't suggest this assisted living facility to anyone. It may look good on the outside, but taking care of residents is about more than just appearances. Management is only around from 9 am to 5 pm, don't even think about getting help after those hours or on weekends.

"Great Place with a Comfortable Feel and Fair Prices!"

Our experience with Sunrise at Huntcliff Summit has been great so far! It feels like a warm and cozy home, which really helps the residents feel comfortable and settled. They were super helpful and patient while we were touring, especially since my parents were unsure about moving. The place looks nice, is clean, and is in a beautiful wooded area. There were no strong smells of urine or harsh chemicals, which was a relief. Plus, the prices are pretty reasonable compared to other places we checked out.

"Remodeled, lively facility with room for improvement in location and cuisine."

The assisted living place was alright, not bad but not amazing either. One thing I liked was that they kept fixing up the place, even though it's been around for 25 years, it still looked nice. They also had this list of events for the next year which was cool. I even got to chat with the security/maintenance guy. They were fixing up all the apartments, putting in fancy granite countertops. They were big on making your room just how you want it, like adjusting the closet space and stuff. The apartments were really nice. But the food wasn't that great, and the place isn't in the best spot, the neighborhood has kind of gotten worse over time.

"Friendly Staff, Improvement Needed in Dining Service"

The place is nice overall. The food's okay, but serving meals feels messy. Staff are nice and professional, giving good care. The building is clean and tidy.

"There's things I love, but some issues"

I'm really happy that my parents are at this assisted living facility. It's much better than them being at home. However, there have been some real issues. The booklet said we'd have a meeting with them in the first 30 days, but it's been 4 months, and we haven't heard anything. My mom's makeup was stolen, but after I complained, it mysteriously reappeared in her drawer a week later. Another incident involved a beautiful chrysanthemum my sister brought for Mom's birthday. It vanished, even though other dead plants were left untouched. When we asked my dad, he said one of the ladies took it, claiming it was dead. Despite these problems, we're still kind to everyone because we don't know who's responsible. We want our parents to be treated well. The care seems good—Mom gets help with her diapers and enjoys activities all day. Dad can come and go freely, and there's always someone there at night. Plus, managing their medications is easier now that it's part of the facility's responsibilities.
