The Holbrook of Decatur (Opening Spring 2019)

"Mixed feelings about Holbrook: Nice place, rude manager, low wages."
My parents enjoy Holbrook's activities and residents. The building's clean and lovely. But the new manager's really rude to residents, as I've heard from many. Also, they keep raising my parents' rent every year while paying their staff poorly. I've talked to some staff, and most of them are making just above minimum wage.

We thought this place was great during our tour. The lobby looked amazing, the gym and pool were nice, and the apartments were a good size. But after moving in, we realized it’s poorly managed. The assisted living team doesn’t help much, even when you press the help button. They charge for services but only assist once in a while. The medication distribution is scary—they don’t know what they’re doing. The General Manager didn’t seem concerned about a near-fatal error. The dining staff ignores dietary restrictions. Holbrook management only cares about money, not residents.

"Needs Improvement in Community and Care"
This assisted living place has different floors for different needs. Floors 5 and 4 are for people who can do more on their own, floors 3 and 2 are for those who need some help, and floor 1 is for folks who need a lot of care, like those with memory issues. They have activities you can do by yourself, but that doesn’t really make sense for people who live here because they need help. It would be better to have more activities that everyone can do together, to make friends and feel like part of a group. The people who work here, the ones who help out, they’re okay, but they’re not trying to be the best compared to other places. They just do what they need to do. The building looks nice and it’s big, but it’s right next to a busy road. It could be a really fun place for older people, like a vacation spot, but they need to do more to get there, especially for the people who can’t do much on their own or who have trouble remembering things. I haven’t tried the food myself, but people say it’s alright. They don’t have enough people working where we eat, so that’s something they need to work on too. I’m not saying who I am because I don’t want the person living here to have any problems because of this review.

"Friendly Assisted Living with Room for More Activities"
The facility is lovely, well-maintained, and the staff are friendly. We’d appreciate more activities, but we understand COVID restrictions.

"Great staff, good food, limited activities but Zoom options"
The COVID-19 pandemic has limited the activities available, but there are still many options through Zoom. The staff is really nice and helpful. The food is tasty, and the dining room is open. We still try to keep some distance from other residents. On weekends, there’s a bar called the Maverick that’s open in the afternoon.

"Spacious, new assisted living with dining, limited memory care options."
The facility is beautiful and new, with large living and common areas. There are nice meal choices available at onsite restaurants. Currently, there are only 5 residents in the Enriched Living area out of 33. However, they do not specialize in Memory Care; they also offer Independent and Assisted Living.
