"Friendly Staff, Slow Maintenance"
The staff was awesome! Maintenance was a bit sluggish.

"Comfortable and Affordable Assisted Living Recommendation"
My mom feels comfortable here. I would tell others to choose it. We picked this place because it was cheaper.

"Friendly staff and great dining room service"
What we like most about The Ivy at Hawaii Kai is the staff. They are really friendly and take good care of our loved one. The dining room service is great too.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
The room and view were really beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the private nursing team. However, the food was awful, and my mom didn’t like much from the menu—it was too big.

"Deteriorating facility management and uncomfortable nursing staff."
I really don't know what went down. It was great visiting my Aunt when she stayed here, but lately, the workers seem to have stopped caring. I don't know if the new owners are to blame, but stuff doesn't feel right. The new Assistant Manager and the head nurse really annoy me. The staff always look nervous around them.

""Poor food quality, not a great overall experience""
She told me that the food was too tough and difficult to swallow, plus it didn't taste good - she's usually not that fussy about meals. On the whole, her stay here has been disappointing.

"Assisted Living Review"
If you find an affordable community, go for it! My family had a budget, and if there were other options, I'd have explored them. When you visit these places, go multiple times and show up randomly. During our tour, they made it seem impressive. Observe carefully and ignore the hype. Staff turnover is high, and they lacked enough drivers. The schedule for rides is tough. Residents wait hours after appointments. Financial troubles are apparent. It's okay, but quality doesn't match the cost. Few activities, unhelpful front desk. Glad my loved one can rely on fellow residents.

"Somewhat old facility without nursing home, but no large fee."
It looks a bit old and worn. Plus, it's disappointing that there's no nursing home facility within the building. On the other hand, you don't need to pay a large initial fee to live here, which is a good thing.

"Great staff, tasty food, and fun activities at this facility!"
My mom's staying here but will come home soon. The staff is really nice and tries hard to keep her happy. I've eaten here a lot and the food is yummy. They offer plenty of choices, and it changes often. It's definitely healthy. They have lots of activities like outings, games, and they even have a calendar each month listing all the fun stuff. Everyone was super nice and helpful. But my mom's coming home not because of the community but for other reasons. Overall, I'd say they're good.

"A Home Away from Home"
My dad loves living here, and I'm happy too. The rent covers everything, even meals, which takes a load off our minds. He moved in quickly when we needed it, and it's the only place we visited because we liked it so much. There are lots of activities, but he can join in as he likes. They offer exercise, watching football, rides to the mall, and medical appointments. The staff treats him great, making him feel at home. I'd recommend this community to other families.

"Very nice facility"
We decided to move Mom back to Hawaii, her hometown, where most of our relatives live. According to my mother, the place is very nice. Adjusting to this significant lifestyle change has been challenging, but the staff is doing their best to help her. Although my mom isn't very social and doesn't participate in many activities, it's only been a month, and we hope she'll eventually try some of the many offered activities to stay busy.

"Mom's doing well in new home, staff is great!"
My mom just moved into this place and so far, she's doing okay. She's getting used to it and is slowly becoming friends with everyone there. I'm happy with the staff and I feel good about the kind of care she's getting. On the whole, it's a good place and I think others should consider it.

"Mixed Experience at Hawaii Kai Retirement Needs Improvement in Support"
Hawaii Kai Retirement is pretty clean and nice. The people who work there know a lot and are friendly. But there's a problem because my parents are in Assisted Living. My mom can do things on her own, but my dad needs a little help with medicine and his catheter. When they moved here, they lost all the freedom they had when they lived in their own house for 59 years. They don't have any family nearby to help them out. They get frustrated because they have to make appointments for certain days and times. Nobody has shown them how to use the transportation to go to the grocery store. The people who work in Assisted Living are used to folks who don't leave, but my mom wants to go out. So, they end up taking taxis. I'm going to have to go visit them again to help them figure out how to deal with some of these problems.

"Hawaii Kai Needs Better Staff Training"
Hawaii Kai's assisted living needs to improve. Their staff could use more training to do better at their jobs. I can't give them a high rating.

"The surroundings are very nice."
The place looks really nice. I visited both the assisted living (AL) and independent living (IL) areas. I met the LPNs in AL, and I appreciated that they chatted with me during their lunch break. The site administrator introduced themselves and invited me for lunch. Unfortunately, I didn't get to finish my questions, but I'll call later. There were two minor issues that needed attention from my guide, the house manager: 1) I'm not receiving my cough medicine, and 2) she is missing—she's not here, and I've already called.
