"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Care and Costs"

The place has cool activities, but my mother-in-law doesn’t join in. A lot of what the staff does, especially Nurse [name removed], isn’t shared with us, and they don’t seem to care what we think is best for mom. It feels like Nurse [name removed] is the one making all the decisions. My mother-in-law doesn’t go to the dining room to eat. She gets one meal brought to her for an extra $7, yet they bill her for all the meals. The cleaning isn’t great either. Like, the toilet’s not clean, and the bathroom floor’s super wet after they mop. Plus, they don’t give her toilet paper until we come by once a week. But the person who gives her medicine is super nice. They’re really good at talking to us and keeping us in the loop.

"Nice at First, But Poor Communication and Hidden Fees"

Our mother-in-law didn't have a great experience overall. It was nice at first, but things went downhill. The bathroom wasn't cleaned unless we asked. The staff were friendly, but they didn't communicate well. The care services were inconsistent and, again, no communication. Our mother-in-law rarely eats the food, even though we paid for one meal a day to be delivered. She feels too much social pressure eating in the dining hall. She doesn't want to join the activities, and no one on the staff encourages her. They charge extra for every service. It costs a lot each month just to give her one pill a day. If we could find another place, we would. Communication is very bad, and it seems like they're always trying to charge us more. The nurse in charge is very slow to respond, and when a plan is made, it's not followed through. It seemed nice at first, but after three months, it's just a money drain with poor communication and broken promises.

"Short Stay Woes: Not a Permanent Resident Fit"

We tried a short stay, but my family member kept wandering off. The staff couldn't give him enough attention, and it didn't go well. They said he can't stay permanently.

"Highly Rated Assisted Living on Big Island with Professional Management"

Overall, this community is excellent. There are no downsides. It's the best option on the Big Island. The management is professional, and the head nurse excels with residents.

"Place Prefers Constantly Medicated, Sleeping Residents"

My Dad was only at this place for three weeks before they kicked him to the curb. It didn't seem like they gave him a fair shot to get used to things, especially since he has dementia. This place is supposed to specialize in memory care, but it feels like they only pick specific people to live there. The folks they do have around are constantly medicated and napping all day. But my Dad didn't nap much and they didn't want to put in the effort to look after him. Unfortunately, I can't endorse this place to other families.
