"Affordable and Enjoyable Assisted Living"
I enjoyed the community, and it didn’t cost too much. I’d suggest it to others.

EdenCrest at Riverwoods takes good care of my mom. I think they would be a good choice for anyone who needs to find a place for their loved one.

"Unimpressive Sales Rep at Edencrest; Money-Oriented"
We didn't like the salesman at Edencrest at Riverwoods. It was clear to us that he only cared about the money. As soon as we said we weren't going to pay upfront, his attitude changed instantly. Based on our visit, we don't suggest choosing them.

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living’s Food and Fun"
We’re running into some trouble with the food and where we eat. To start, the food’s not great at all. Also, they really want us to eat in the big room where everyone gets together, and they serve the meals. If you don’t want to eat there and ask for food to be brought to you, they make you pay extra. On the bright side, there’s always something to do, like playing bingo, shows after lunch, and guests who come to sing.

"Poor Care and Possible Abuse at Edencrest in Des Moines"
My wife's stay at Edencrest at Riverwoods in Des Moines, IA was less than satisfactory. The staff seemed unequipped to properly care for patients with dementia. I was appalled to discover that my wife was often left in wet clothing for hours and denied a shower. She also wore the same clothes for several days. During her time here, she lost a significant 12lbs. and not all caregivers ensured she was fed or her meals were saved. Disturbingly, she suffered a black eye and severely injured hip that resulted in a hospital visit. The attending physician at the hospital inferred that this may have been a case of abuse at the facility. The nurse from Edencrest was clueless regarding the incident. To my horror, I once found my wife sleeping on the floor. When I asked a staff member how long she had been in that condition, they said it had been 3 hours since their shift started. While there were a few pleasant staff members, many were not. On the whole, I find it hard to recommend Edencrest for memory care. I have spoken to other families who have loved ones at the facility and their opinions mirror mine. They feel that some staff members are not worth their salaries, considering the poor level of care provided.

"Clean, Friendly Assisted Living"
The staff was super friendly and helpful. The place was clean, and the food was tasty. The memory care apartments were nice, but a bit small—only 10 units—and felt a little confining.

"Wonderful Assisted Living Experience"
From our first visit to moving in, we've been really impressed. The staff, building, food, and activities are all great. My mom tried not to like it, but she enjoys the food and flexible mealtimes. She says the staff is friendly and respectful, and the place is always clean. She still avoids activities, but they offer a lot to do and don't push her. She especially likes when the staff's kids visit. Based on our experience so far, I highly recommend this place.

"Avoid This Facility: Poor Management, Inadequate Care for Patients"
Review of Alzheimer's/Dementia Care Unit. My poor mother was relocated at least four times during her 7-months stay. The staff isn't sufficiently educated or supported by management. The absence of sanitizing supplies and wiping cloths prevents even the most compassionate worker from providing proper care. Staff members are much too often absent and they've yelled at my mom from across a room while idly sitting. She was left lying in a damp bed until midday, deprived of a room with a restroom. I would strongly advise against joining up with any establishment associated with this facility. This is no jest or hoax. I honestly wish it was.

"Edencrest at Riverwoods: A Great Place to Call Home"
We really like Edencrest at Riverwoods. The building is clean, cozy, and well-maintained. Mom loves the food—they do a fantastic job with it! At first, it seemed like they didn't have enough staff, but they've hired more people, and the service has improved. Overall, we're happy with our experience there.

"A Positive Experience"
I believe they need more staff; currently, they're understaffed. However, overall, it's been a wonderful experience. The staff is friendly, caring, and attentive to each resident, and the food is good too.

"Staffing Shortage"
Mom's only been there a little while, and we're still figuring things out. She managed to escape once. They're fixing the door latch and making other improvements. But I think they need more staff, especially during evenings and weekends.

"Dad doing better, less stress with assisted living decision."
This was a tough choice, but after deciding, my dad's doing better. I think it's because he's less stressed about hiding his memory loss, and now he's more relaxed.

"Staffing Shortage Hinders Eden Crest Assisted Living's Potential"
Our mom just moved in; place is small but short-staffed. Med mix-ups, missing doses. Front desk empty on visit. Aides kind but overwhelmed. Hire more help!

"Granddad mistreated: Medication errors and rude staff at assisted living."
My granddad stays here and his experience has been atrocious. It's more than just inconvenient, it has been awful. They constantly mix up his medication, the nurse is seriously rude to every member of our family, and the staff openly laughs at my grandpa when he's struggling. We've witnessed it ourselves. No Veteran, or anyone really, should endure such treatment. We've lodged many complaints about the nurse, but nothing has changed. Worse, they're even planning to promote her to manager soon.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs Some Improvements"
One thing I do like about them is that they do treat my dad with respect, which is very important. But there are some things they can do better. My dad's sheets haven't been changed since he got there (two months now). Mom ate dinner with him a couple of times, and the food was cold. There aren't many activities - just listening to music or doing puzzles. Dad says there's nothing for guys there.

"Friendly staff and nice, new facility; would choose it."
I really liked this place because it was new and nice. It's an assisted living facility, and I don’t think my mom was ready for that, so we didn’t choose it. The staff was very friendly and helpful during my tour. If mom needed assisted living, we would have picked this place.

"Good place, friendly staff, needs more activities."
They do a really good job at Edencrest at Riverwoods. It's a clean and nice looking place where they take good care of the people who live there. The workers are all really nice and have helped us a lot by answering all our questions. The only thing I wish they did better is having more things for people to do. But I get that since they're still new, they might not have a lot of people yet to do activities with.

"Two Weeks In, Facility Can't Accommodate Our Loved One"
Our time at this assisted living facility was really bad. We clearly told them we didn't want to move our loved one just for a short while, but for her to stay until the end. They agreed and said they could care for her memory issues. But, only after 2 weeks, they're telling us to find another place for her. This is exactly what we didn't want. Our experience has been really negative.

"Edencrest Assisted Living: A Tale of Missteps and Mismanagement"
Dealing with Edencrest has been a total disaster! They told me I was going to pay a certain amount but didn't put it in the lease until we pointed out their mistake. Then, they just jotted it down by hand instead of typing it. They said the lifetime fee could be paid in chunks and only told us they'd goofed up on that detail on lease signing day. They should've contacted us when they spotted the error. I was initially told that moving my mom in three days before the start of the month wouldn't cost anything extra, but on signing day, they hit me with daily charges. The facility's management feels clueless, and I'm pretty sure they've never worked in senior care before. The manager didn't even bother to let us know when something went wrong. We had to put in all the effort and make all the phone calls. We never heard from the staff about mistakes or to confirm the move-in date. It wasn't until signing day that they told us anything. Despite having a month's notice about my mom's move-in date, they weren't prepared. When we arrived, they didn't even have her meds ready. The staff are kind, but they clearly have no clue how to care for Alzheimer's patients, which includes my mom. Alzheimer's patients need structure, regular eating habits, and reminders to keep hydrated—not just being offered food or drink whenever they feel like it. They need to be able to ask for sustenance anytime they need it, day or night. I want to speak with someone competent who owns this place—not the manager, who hasn't helped us at all. My family and I are jointly responsible for mom's well-being. The manager should've made sure to have the right paperwork signed by the executor. We all need to be in the loop about mom's care. Working in an insurance agency, I understand health privacy laws. And besides, mom was at a good senior facility for five years before coming here.
