"Frequent Changes, Overworked Staff, Lacks Certified Care"
Last month, my mom or dad got another note saying there’s a new boss at the assisted living place. It seems like they get new managers more than they get new workers, which is a whole lot. Some of the workers really do care, but others just seem tired all the time. When they get upset, they might yell and then they don’t even tell us when someone gets hurt. They do lots of events with food for families to make the place seem nice, but it feels like it’s just barely holding on. It’s like they just hire anyone who can work, not folks who have the right training.

"Needs More Staff and Better Workers"
Addington Place of Des Moines doesn’t have enough staff. They should hire good workers for the jobs they have open.

"Staff Shortages Affecting Care at Assisted Living"
Right now might not be the ideal time to move your family member into a care home. They’re really low on staff, and it’s causing some problems.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Communication and Care"
Don't choose this place for your loved one. Once, they didn't tell us when my family member went to the hospital. We only found out because the hospital called. Also, there was a leaky toilet with no signs or cleaning tools, and they didn't explain why our loved one couldn't use the bathroom, making their shoes dirty. They're supposed to take residents to appointments, but they've canceled my family member's eye appointment multiple times and struggle to encourage them to go. The staff doesn't handle problems well, and when we complained, a new person took our concerns. Plus, personal items have gone missing too many times.

"Mixed Experience in Country-Style Memory Care Setting"
We picked Prairie Hills of Des Moines for its spacious 2-bedroom apartments in memory care and lovely outdoor area. It's set in a country-like environment, which we found appealing. Sometimes, they don't have all the activities listed on the calendar, which has been a slight drawback. Overall, I would recommend it to others who are searching for similar options.

"Mixed Experience at Prairie Hills"
Before COVID, we visited Prairie Hills and considered its location, layout, and staff. The rooms are smaller than others we saw, and the food consistency has been an issue due to chef turnover. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it right now.

"Great care, friendly staff, and clean community"
I like the homey atmosphere here for my mom. The community makes her feel comfortable. The staff is very nice and caring. She enjoys playing bingo, doing daily exercises, and getting her nails done. The community is very clean and well-maintained. She stays active and seems to enjoy the care she gets. I highly recommend this community for great care and value.
