Prairie Hills at Ottumwa
Riddle
"Horrible experience and sudden eviction from River Place."
I traveled from another city to see my Mother. The staff said she had to go to Ottumwa Hospital via ambulance for a mental health evaluation and medication adjustment. They assured us she could come back (not true). She was released from the hospital that same night, but they wouldn't let us bring her back to River Place. It was the middle of the night and we had nowhere to go. We got a hold of the director, who told us she wasn't allowed back in. No notice ahead of time. We were stuck in the parking lot at night with no options. The day before, my sister had to help her inside from outdoors. They conveniently waited until she had already paid for the next month's rent before they did this mean trick.

"Understaffed facility with poor amenities but great care aides."
My family member stayed briefly. Few staff, no maintenance, bad food. Limited engagement. Excellent care aides.

"Not Quite the Right Fit"
The place looks nice, rooms are super clean, and they try to keep residents busy with activities. The food is okay, and the director is easy to talk to. But for my loved one, it wasn’t the right fit. They seemed understaffed, and my loved one needed more than they could provide. It just didn’t work out for us, although other seniors seemed happy there. Our stay was shorter than planned.

"Feels Like Home with Friendly Staff and Engaging Activities"
This place is really nice. The people are super friendly. What I really like is that I can move around just like I do at home! always makes sure I'm part of activities, and I like that I can help out in Ottumwa while I'm here.

"Caring Staff, Swift Assistance"
The staff here respond quickly and go beyond their duties to assist me. Although I don't connect with all of them, their genuine care for the residents shines through.

"Nice Staff, Mixed Experience"
My mom stayed here from January to March, but she fell and had to go to the hospital until . They didn't want her to come back because of liability concerns. However, we really liked the staff. Unfortunately, it wasn't the right time for her due to her early-onset Alzheimer's. Maybe if she had started in Memory Care, as the doctor recommended, things would've been different. The facility and staff were very nice.
