"Great tour, clean place, but location was an issue"
My tour of Whispering Creek was great. The place is very clean and well-kept. Everyone was very nice. The only issue was the location.

"Poor Elderly Care Included Neglect and Lack of Assistance"
This place may work for you if you don't need any help, but I wouldn't recommend it for those who do. My mother-in-law stayed there for almost a year and she's got dementia, which really impacts her daily life. Even though we paid for her to get help with stuff like showering, they only bathed her twice in 10 months. She hardly had any of her soap and shampoo used the whole time. They also weren't careful about giving her the correct amount of her medication. We wished we didn't have to ask her to shower every time we visited - that should have been handled by the staff, especially since we were paying for it. But when we finally confronted the staff about it and pointed out that we were being overcharged, they just said she had the right to refuse help. They also claimed that just offering her help was enough to charge us the full price, even when she didn't get the actual service. When I complained about her looking and smelling bad like she hadn't had a shower in a while, they just said to give them a heads up if we planned to take her anywhere so they could clean her up. But as anyone with loved ones suffering from dementia knows, it can be really hard just getting them to understand why these things are important. This place is really big and the building looks nice, but they seem to miss the details that matter most. If you're thinking about using a place like this, be sure to ask them how they will deal with issues like these. Also, even though Whispering Creek may say they specialize in memory care, it didn't seem like they actually knew what they were doing or cared much about the residents. Despite the Struggles involved in taking care of someone with dementia, their staff didn't offer solutions or seem to care, only telling us it's the resident's right to deny services. Their billing was another issue. When we questioned the charges, they said the bill was computer generated. There wasn't even a billing department to talk to about this. Our experience of these things was rather frustrating. The top staff were defensive and didn't seem interested in improving things. I hope sharing this can prevent others from having the same issues. Make sure to check up on important things like bathing and medication handling, because they're not as high a priority as you'd think.
