"Assisted Living Falls Short on Care and Management"

The people in charge aren’t very good at managing things. When residents need help, they have to wait a long time after pressing the call button. Also, they don’t take advantage of the extra health services that insurance covers.

"Unacceptable medication mishaps and added costs define Brookdale Castle Hills."

The staff on the ground were always pleasant enough. I also thought the food was delicious. But honestly, Brookdale Castle Hills in Boise shouldn't be doing business. Their RN and LPN are completely incompetent. The medications were messed up countless times - sometimes too many were given, other times not enough, the timing was all wrong, and there were even instances of the wrong meds being given! They let the residents exhaust their meds. Meds were given by so-called "med techs," essentially folks who attended an eight-hour class on administering drugs. They got almost no training from Brookdale. Once, a med tech took a sick leave, and someone else (who wasn't a med tech) arranged the meds in little cups on the cart. A kitchen staffer then served the meds. As you can guess, it was a disaster. A month after my relatives moved in, they jacked up the rates by several hundred dollars without prior notice. I showed them the signed contract and refused to pay more than agreed. Every bill had sneaky additional charges for vague "services" with no details. I had to visit Brookdale each month and clarify the bill with the director, after which the amount was corrected. Staff turnover was sky high. Ground staff consistently groused about the lack of training and management's apathy towards the residents. I could pen a whole book on their atrocious treatment of my family. Their endless lying, careless mistakes, and utter apathy were ghastly. I visited nearly every day and witnessed these issues personally. I often raised my concerns to the nurses or the director, who always promised to rectify things, but never did. Just five months in, I had to pull my family out. Entrusting my family to Brookdale is my worst mistake ever, and I'll never stop regretting it.

"Caring Community with Cozy Atmosphere"

I visited this place to find a new home for my dad. I really enjoyed the community. The manager was great—he treated my son and me to lunch during our tour and made me feel like he cared about my dad's well-being, even though we didn't pick this community. The facility feels cozy, it's clean, and the staff is friendly.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"

The management here doesn't support the community's needs. The caregiver-to-resident ratio doesn't match up at all—it's very understaffed. However, the existing staff is friendly and goes above and beyond. They come once a week for deep cleaning in my apartment. The kitchen needs evaluation and more options. The patio area is nice, but they should respect our privacy with mail. No long waits when using the light for help.

"Rent Woes: Assisted Living Costs Keep Rising"

I moved into this community recently, but things haven’t been great. The other residents aren’t very friendly, and I felt embarrassed by one of them due to a personal issue. On the bright side, the ladies in the dining room are always friendly and check on me if I miss mealtime. However, I’m unhappy with the yearly rent increases. It feels like they’re constantly adding to my expenses.

"Mixed Feelings About Brookdale Castle Hills"

Brookdale Castle Hills is a very clean and neat community. The staff are very helpful and will do whatever they can to assist you. If you need extra help, they provide assisted living services. They could use a few more staff members because it seems like the staff have to do many different things. I'm not sure if I'm ready for assisted living yet. I miss cooking, and I am very picky about my fresh foods and ingredients. Here, they seem to use a lot of sauces and gravies. They have many activities available, but so far, I have only tried the exercise class, which was pretty good. They also offer transportation for activities outside of the facility. It is definitely a big change for me, but I would recommend Brookdale Castle Hills to my friends and family.

"Mixed feelings about Brookdale Castle Hills Assisted Living"

The Brookdale Castle Hills AL seems a bit old-fashioned. It's not super fancy like some places. But it feels cozy and comfy, almost like a dorm for older folks. The staff is nice and knows their stuff. Just wasn't right for my Mom.

"Nice community, but medication mix-ups are a concern"

My loved one is getting used to living here. The people are super nice, and my loved one likes them a lot. They are trying hard to make my loved one feel at home. We decorated their room and made it comfy. However, the only problem is with the medication. Sometimes, they give the wrong pill at the wrong time. They know about the issue, and I hope they can fix it.

"Mixed Impressions at Assisted Living Facility"

We visited this place. What we saw didn't wow us. The workers weren't really talking to the people living there. It looks like they change staff a lot. The food options were okay. They do have things for people to do. Families should check it out if they're looking for care.

"Not Quite the Right Fit"

During my tour, everything seemed okay. But I didn't feel it was the right fit. The place looked clean, and the staff were friendly and competent. However, the size, layout, and dining experience didn't match what my mom needs.

"Mixed Reception at Brookdale Assisted Living"

I'm not sure if we came at a bad time, but the staff here wasn't as friendly as at other places. Normally, we'd get a 'Hi' when we walked in, but not at Brookdale. I won't fault them for this, though—it might just be bad timing. Still, you'd expect a warmer welcome.

Yeah, things are going fine at Brookdale. Everything seems okay, and I don't have any complaints or issues with them.

"Friendly Staff, Clean Facility, Some Staffing Challenges"

I believe Emeritus at Summer Wind does well overall. The staff is friendly and professional, taking good care of the residents. However, they’re a bit short-staffed, causing some coordination problems. Despite this, they maintain a clean and well-kept facility.

"Lackluster Care: Disappointing Experience at Assisted Living Facility"

In the beginning, the staff tried hard to help us, but the boss seemed distant and hard to reach. Many staff members came and went, some knew more than others. The food was mostly chicken and rice every day. The menus had a tiny print that was hard to read. At night, when there was a flu outbreak, there weren't enough staff to help. I had to stay with my mom all the time while she was sick. Once, she got sick on herself, and there weren't enough staff to clean her up. I never felt sure if they were doing things right for my mom, except for one caregiver who bathed her. But even that didn't happen until two weeks after she arrived because of a mix-up. My mom isn't there anymore, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to stay with your loved one all the time.

"Understaffed and Unresponsive: Summerwind Assisted Living Falls Short"

This place might be okay if you don't need lots of help, but it seemed like they didn't have enough workers. We saw some workers using their phones while they were supposed to be working. The managers weren't very nice after our parents moved in. The nurses were helpful, but they never called back when we called them. We always had to go there to talk to someone. We wouldn't suggest Summerwind. We moved our parents somewhere else, and things are much better there.

"Friendly, Active Assisted Living Community"

I visited this community while searching for options. I liked it—the place was clean, staff friendly, and they had good food and plenty of activities. I'm considering them.

"Friendly Staff, Room for Improvement in Management and Food"

As family advocates, we find the daily staff very friendly and helpful. However, talking to the managers can be hard. They agree it's a problem, but more effort is needed to make it feel like a true family. This place and its managers try hard with clients who need extra care, and we appreciate that. The building stays super clean, and the rooms are nice. The area around is calm and peaceful. Our loved one says there are a lot of staff changes, but we've heard this is a problem in all assisted living places. They have meetings with residents and their families now and then to get feedback, which we like. The biggest issue is the food, but we think it's okay when we eat there. The residents are really nice, and they try hard to welcome new people into their group.
