"Unexpected Eviction Notice From The Cottages Assisted Living"
The Cottages, an assisted living setup in Boise, Idaho, boast about how well they treat their resident seniors. But yesterday, they told my mom, who lives there, that she has just a month to find a new home because they're shutting down for upgrades. Imagine how scary that must be for her, a lady in her mid-eighties with early stage dementia? We’re hustling to find her a new place. Please think twice before trusting The Cottages with your family member's care!

"Cottages of Boise: Poor Support and Worker Treatment; Violations Found"
My mom lived at the Cottages of Boise for four years until she passed away. The first three years went well, even the first year of COVID. But the final year was really bad. The boss didn't back up his team, good workers left, and people felt down because they weren't paid enough. There were no fun activities for the people living there and the workers were stressed and overworked. They broke state rules a few times and two times it was proven. A worker who'd been there five years (the longest of anyone) was just fired. She had battled cancer, worked through two years of COVID, often for 16 hours a day, six days a week, but finally had to quit to take care of herself. After my mom died, I never heard a 'sorry' from the boss or the owner. Don't let your family live here.

"Disappointing Tour but Helpful Chat with Manager"
My appointment for a tour seemed to surprise them. They only showed me one room, not the rest of the place. The room was tiny, with little space to store stuff. On the positive side, I had a helpful discussion with the person in charge.

"Needs Improvement on Staff Communication and Activities"
Overall, I think The Cottages needs to improve. The community is very homey and comfortable. It's nicely decorated, clean, and feels high-end. However, the staff needs to keep better contact with residents and families. Sometimes they update me on things, but other times I don't hear anything until I ask. I don't think they have any activities my loved one is interested in. They've said they've tried to create more activities, but it feels like they're not really trying. The meals don't have much variety and there are no alternative options. If The Cottages improved these things, I think the overall experience would be much better.

"Improvements Needed for Better Experience at The Cottages"
In general, The Cottages could be better. It feels welcoming and cozy with pretty decorations, clean spaces, and a luxurious feel. The issue is that the staff isn't very good at keeping touch with residents and their families. They've given me updates every so often, but usually I don't hear from them unless I ask first. My loved one doesn't seem to enjoy any of the activities they put on. Even though they say they're trying to make more activities, it doesn’t seem like they're trying very hard. Also, there's not a lot of variety in the food they serve and no other choices if you don't like what's on the menu. If The Cottages made these changes, it would be a much better place.

"One of the Tours I Had"
When I visited the community, I really liked what I saw. Unfortunately, they were already full, even though I had my heart set on moving in. Overall, it was a good community during my tour.

"Wonderful place and staff, but no immediate availability."
During my tour, I saw a wonderful place with fantastic staff. It was my first choice, but they didn’t have any availability. They had a sister community we could use until a spot opened up, but I didn’t want to move again. The coordinator was amazing. I really liked her and felt she genuinely cared about the residents. She was almost perfect.

"Great place and staff—just no availability at the time!"
During my tour, I saw a great place with amazing staff. It was my first choice, but they didn’t have any availability. They offered a sister community until a spot opened up, but I didn’t want to move twice. The coordinator was fantastic. I really liked her and felt she truly cared about the residents. She was almost perfect.

"Spaciousness and Gender Balance Needed for Assisted Living Satisfaction"
The majority of residents at The Cottages were women, and we hoped for an equal number of men for my father to socialize with and make friends. Also, the facility felt somewhat cramped, and considering both of my parents, I don't think there was enough room for both. My mom would have been perfectly content if it was just her.

"Not enough men, small space, but mom happy."
The Cottages mostly had women, but we needed more men for my dad to socialize with. Also, it was pretty small, and with both my parents, there wasn't enough room. My mom would've been fine if it was just her.

"Improving Services at Small Assisted Living Facility"
This place is doing great with family communication. It's super clean and tidy. Food's improving, too. It's small, only 14 residents, which is why we picked it. Staff cooks, but had some turnover issues affecting meals. However, they're fixing it. Mom loves their morning trips. Lots of fun activities, indoors and out. They personalize care well!

"Caring and Clean"
This is a really great community where everything is going well. They take excellent care of my mother and meet all her needs. The staff is both knowledgeable and friendly. Whenever I visit, the community and her room are always clean and nice. They offer fun activities, and she particularly likes the music ones. I’m confident she’s getting fantastic care here and would definitely recommend this place.

"The Cottages: Small, Home-Like Assisted Living"
The good thing about The Cottages is that it's small. They don't have many patients, but they're struggling with staffing. I think they expect too much from their staff, and people leave because they can't meet those expectations. Unfortunately, there's no cook, and only on-call nurses are available. Despite some shortcomings, it's the only small, home-like community in the area. The room is spacious, beautiful, and has a private bathroom with plenty of space for furniture and a TV. I wish they had more help, even though they meet regulations. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with The Cottages.

"Understaffed Facility Strains Care for Loved Ones"
The staff worked hard, but they needed more help. Sadly, we had to move our loved ones due to understaffing. Still, the girls were sweet.

"More Help Needed"
I believe they should hire more staff. The hardworking girls didn't have enough help, so we had to move our loved ones elsewhere. Despite that, they're really sweet.

"Unreliable Assisted Living Facility Delivers False Promises"
I'd strongly discourage anyone from choosing The Cottages for their loved ones. The person who runs things told us exactly what we wanted to hear. She spoke about behavioral aid and proudly showed us their fancy trophy. Yet when it mattered most, they did absolutely nothing. Moreover, they were overly eager to handle issues with medication. They didn't make efforts to interact with my loved one. Even though they had all the necessary information and assured us they could adequately support her, they didn't. Things are decided based on the seriousness and the required aid. They claim to have ample staff for each resident, but those employees are multitasking around the community, tackling tasks like cooking or dishwashing. So, these individuals aren't entirely committed to the residents' care, they're preoccupied with other jobs.

"Cottages Overpromises and Underdelivers on Elderly Care"
I wouldn't suggest anyone take their family to The Cottages. The lady running the place made some big promises. She talked about their focus on mental help and even bragged about an award they received. But when push came to shove, they totally dropped the ball and were way too quick to medicate. They didn't seem to care about helping my family member. They knew all about her needs and said this would be a good fit, but they didn't do anything. They might talk a big game about their staff to resident ratio, but those staff are off doing different jobs around the community, like cooking or dishwashing. So they're not solely focused on the residents, they're distracted doing other chores.

"Highly Recommended Community"
We picked The Cottages because people recommended it to us. They have a good reputation, and everyone I talked to had good experiences there. The apartments are really big, and you can bring your own furniture to make it feel like home. It’s a very nice, clean place that is well taken care of. We moved them here because they needed more care than their old place could provide. I would recommend this place to anyone.
