"Rat problem and itching issue plague assisted living facility"
My aunt's staying in the assisted living and right now, there's a gross rat problem they're trying to tackle with sticky traps. She's finding unpleasant rat droppings on her own bed. My aunt's got terrible itching everywhere now, although we can't be sure it's because of the rats. Regardless, this situation isn't okay and they need to step up their game. I strongly advise not to keep your family here.

"Assbury Court Assisted Living: Medicaid Memory Care, Spacious Concerns Addressed"
Asbury Court offers memory care and accepts Medicaid in their unit. Initially, we worried about its size for our loved one, fearing he might get lost.

The staff greeted my parents warmly and genuinely care for them. They feel safe and supported, which reassures us about their living situation.

"Bracelet Stolen, Mom Hit, Bed Bugs in Assisted Living."
While my mom was staying there, her Pandora bracelet got stolen. Plus, another person living there hit her. That place also has bed bugs.

"Lackluster Communication and Organization"
The community feels disorganized, and communication could improve. It's difficult to find the right person to ask specific questions. I wouldn't recommend this place to others at the moment.

"Asbury Court: Recommended, Good Rehab, Slightly Smaller Rooms"
My aunt picked Asbury Court based on a social worker's advice. The rooms are a bit small. Communication seems good based on what she says. Their rehab helped her a lot; she did well there a couple of times. I'd recommend it to others looking.

"Convenient Location and Transportation at Assisted Living Facility near O'Hare"
I've been here for six years. It's very close to the Mason Shopping Complex, which is convenient. The township offers free senior bus service, especially useful being near O'Hare airport. Public transportation options are excellent.

"Loved one doing well here!"
My sister is doing well since moving into this community. It is a nice place, and I'm comfortable with her being here. The staff is kind and takes good care of her. They keep the place clean. She likes the meals; the food is good. They had some staff changes when she moved in, so some things weren't followed up on, but they got fixed later. They removed the overnight nurse after she moved in, which was a problem because she needs medication every few hours. Also, there was a long power outage with no backup plan. Otherwise, everything has worked well, and I would recommend this community.

"Mixed feelings about assisted living: helpful staff, limited amenities."
The people who work here are pretty nice and they usually listen when I talk to them. My mom enjoys playing bingo, and there's plenty for my folks to do. They're fixing up the main floor, which is good. Breakfast and lunch are fine, but dinner's just sandwiches, which isn't great. I'm not happy that the showers aren't accessible for people with disabilities. I've had to fix up some things myself to help my parents. The person in charge of medical stuff is good, though; they're cheerful and helpful.

"A Great Place for Mom"
It has been a good experience here for my mom. The staff are nice and helpful. They clean my mom’s room and told us she needed more linen. They make sure she has everything she needs and do puzzles and listen to music with her. My mom has been eating well and I think she likes the food. I have already recommended this place to others because it’s affordable.

"Unsatisfactory Room and Care, Yet Friendly Staff"
We didn't really like the rooms, the events, or that she would need to relocate if she switched to Medicaid. However, the staff was friendly.

"Friendly and competent staff"
My mom is really happy at Asbury Court Retirement Community. It's a great fit for her. Everyone is very friendly, which made the move easy. The staff is competent. You don't have to worry about anything once a loved one is there; they handle everything. She also loves the food.

"Deceived about level of care, mom moved out"
I was led astray about the help they give. My mom was kept on the 5th floor, which was easy for me, but hard for her. My mom needed more attention than they were giving her. The folks there didn't seem to be doing well, and my mom doesn't live there anymore.

"Urgent Changes Required at Assisted Living Facility"
This assisted living place needs serious work. My mom's not satisfied. They have two care providers - Asbury and Best Care Service. Best Care is okay, but they messed up once with her medicine because they didn't communicate right - that's major. Asbury on the other hand, serves really bad food. The quality is bad and sometimes, they run out of meals and only offer hot dogs. They pay more attention to lunch than dinner. For dinner, they'll serve something simple like a PB&J sandwich, and that doesn't seem healthy to me. There are some issues with the way they manage things too. They claim it's a smoke-free place, but I always smell smoke in the hallways. The cleaning lady does a decent job, I have nothing bad to say there. My mom's made a few friends, so people are friendly enough. The building feels old and worn out compared to new ones. They do have a weekly bus for trips and regular activities like bingo. What you don't find out until it's too late is that they have a hefty non-refundable community deposit, which is the same as one month's rent.

"Promising At First, Asbury Court Fails in Providing Necessary Care"
My folks are residents at Asbury Court. Initially, it struck us as a fantastic setup, a place where we believed Mom and Dad would receive the necessary care, freeing us of constant worry. Emphasizing that this is an independent living facility, not assisted living, is important to anyone considering Asbury Court. Grading the Asbury Court team and the facility on their own would easily yield top marks, but there's another component to Asbury Court: the "Best Care Services" nursing staff, which falls tragically short. My mother has Parkinson's and her nurse doesn't seem acquainted with the condition. Not only does this nurse lack friendliness, but she's also a persistent complainer. We've interacted with her over the phone and in person and later discussed our grievances with the head nurse. Unfortunately, she seemed more interested in telling us what we'd like to hear, rather than the reality of the situation, exacerbating the issue. It feels like families aren't granted much sway in matters of their loved one's care. The final straw arrived during a doctor's appointment for my mom, conducted by a Best Care Services nurse, as none of us could attend. This nurse proceeded to falsely claim to the doctor that my mom is relentlessly agitated. While my mom does have off days, she also has good ones. The doctor and his nurse knew this façade for what it was and swiftly contacted me for clarification. If you have a family member or friend who requires any assistance, I would not suggest Asbury Court.

"Disappointing care and unfriendly staff compel search for new facility."
My mom has been living at Asbury for several years, but its quality has downhill recently. The staff is unfriendly, and the level of care has certainly dropped. The helpful employees, who treated my mom well, are no longer there. We are now considering moving her to a new place.

"Best Care's Failed Promises: A Cautionary Tale"
Looking for a New Home for Mom. Best Care couldn't manage the cream treatments for her skin condition. I walked into her room recently and found her in the dark, doubled over in pain. Her skin condition got so bad, it looked like a serious burn. I had to rush her to the emergency room for help. She was admitted right away and had to be attended to by wound care specialists. When I tried to address the issue with Best Care's management team, I was informed that they were not expected to apply creams. This crucial piece of information could have been given to me three months ago when I moved her in. I'd made it clear she needed this kind of care. Now, she's distressed and hurting. The management team, especially the director, haven't been particularly helpful either. Despite telling them that my mom had been moved to a different floor - a move that was costing me more - the director denied it and almost accused me of lying. The overly friendly treatment from Jean only seems to be a way to get families through the door, and after that they don't seem to care. It's really disappointing and upsetting to see my mom suffering despite extra payments of $1400 per month for medicine. I regret ever trusting them. Even though Mom's dementia can make her grumpy sometimes, she's really sweet when she's feeling well. I really wouldn't suggest this place to anyone.

"Disappointment: Smoky Facility with Poor Accessibility"
We didn't like this place as much as the other one we saw. Getting in is hard because there are stairs at the entrance, which isn't good for people using walkers. A lot of places inside smelled really strongly of smoke. They have a small store, but it wasn't open when we came. When they did open it for us, a lot of smoke smell came out. The staff here seemed different and didn't explain things to us that well. There were a bunch of people smoking outside and the parking area was really beat up.

"Disappointed with Room Smoking, Lack of View, and Odd Smell"
I didn't really appreciate the fact that they let residents smoke in their rooms. The view isn't anything special either. Also, there's a weird smell in the hallway.
