"Disappointed with Assisted Living"
I was told that my mom's teeth were lost from her upper plate, but that's not true. I've never seen her mess with her mouth or teeth in the 3 years she's been here. I think they were taken by residents or an employee. Memory Care is on lockdown, so her teeth must be somewhere in her room or another resident's room. I'm really disappointed in this place. I called to talk to a manager, but no one has returned my call in over two weeks. I'm done with this place.

"Mixed Care at Assisted Living Facility"
The staff seems to care, but they don't provide proper care. After a while, they get tired of the dementia patients. As a family member, I shouldn't have to keep an eye on everything, including laundry and cleanliness.

"Disappointing Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
Don't choose this place. They didn't give my dad his hearing aid or teeth. They lost his hearing aid and misplaced his glasses, hearing aids, and teeth. They didn't keep residents clean while eating or clean them up afterward. Some staff were careless. They didn't respect residents' dignity.

"Lacking Care: Disappointing Assisted Living Experience for Mom"
My mom stays in the Memory Care section. I think their care is just okay. Mom is always dressed, but sometimes they forget her bra and socks. I feel like she wears a wet Depends for a long time during the day. They have activities, but often no one helps Mom join them. Memory care residents can't go outside anymore. They used to see outside through a big window, but it's blocked now because of construction. The furniture is very old. Nurses are nice, but caregivers don't seem to care much about the residents. Mom's clothes often go missing. They don't communicate much with us. They only call if Mom falls or needs a medication change, but I think they have to do that. They never talk about things like construction or our Medicaid application. There's no newsletter for families. I called about the Medicaid application, but no one called back. I think the person we met with originally left, but we haven't heard from their replacement. I'm really unhappy with this place, but I don't know what else we can do.

"Good facility, but needs better diabetic food options."
Asbury Gardens does a good job overall and is very competent. My only issue is with the food menus. They used to have a bad chef, but that’s been fixed. Still, there isn't enough focus on offering the right diet for medical conditions. There’s too much pork, ham, and gravy, which isn’t good for diabetics. They don’t have a separate menu for diabetics. This can lead to weight gain and higher sugar levels, affecting other health issues.

"Assisted Living with Fun Atmosphere!"
I really liked this place! It's big and has lots of people. When I went there, they had singers and everyone was dancing. I liked how lively it was, and I'll remember it if my mom needs more help.

"Mixed Impressions of Assisted Living Facility"
The assisted living place is nice with lots of light and space. There are many rooms for activities which is good. They have a good plan for care that gets more intense and moves to skilled nursing. However, there are some bad smells that might bother some people.

"Mixed Feelings About Memory Care Facility"
I was impressed with this supportive living community two years ago when I tried to get my mom and her husband to move in before it was "too late." The continuum of care model was very appealing, with their skilled nursing facility (SNF) and memory care being a big advantage. I hadn't seen the memory care area until now, and I have to say I was disappointed with the space. There didn't seem to be much common area, the hallways are long and painted dark, and the staff was polite but not very friendly or engaged. There is also a 1-2 month waiting list for memory care. That said, if my mom hadn't received a small "windfall," this likely would have been her only option other than a Medicaid nursing home.

"Impressive Asisted Living Facility Falls Short on Memory Care"
I liked this assisted living place two years ago when I was trying to find a place for my mom and her husband early enough. The way they had everything planned out for care including their skilled nursing facility and memory care options made it very appealing. But I only just got a look at their memory care area and I was let down by what I saw. There wasn't a lot of community space, the hallways were long and dark, and while the staff was polite, they weren't particularly welcoming or friendly. They also have a 1-2 month waitlist for memory care. But if my mom hadn't recently come into some money, this probably would've been her only choice besides a Medicaid nursing home.

"Great tour, knowledgeable staff, clean facilities, memory care concern"
We checked out this place. The staff knew a lot and answered everything. The part for people with memory issues seemed too much like a hospital. But overall, it was tidy and nice.

"Good Place, But Far; Staff Busy; Medicaid Accepted"
This place was nice, but a bit far from our family. We had an appointment for a tour, but had to wait a while. The people who work there seemed really busy, maybe they don't have enough staff. They had fun things to do and the place was clean. It's cool that they take Medicaid too!

"Asbury Gardens Disappoints with Poor Communication and Inadequate Staff"
My dad was at Asbury Gardens for physical therapy after his hip surgery. There were a couple of nice folks working there, but most of the staff was hard to deal with. They didn't know how to effectively communicate. My dad got pneumonia while he was there, and no one bothered to call me to let me know he had an xray and was put on medicine for it. The area where they eat and do activities is really hot. I was told they keep it that way because the patients are usually cold, regardless of the rest of the building being pretty chilly. I heard a janitor telling workers to shut the curtains to help cool it down since the air conditioner wasn't working. It didn't get fixed the entire time my dad was there. The social worker was nearly impossible to get in touch with and wasn't much help when you could. The physical therapy team didn't know how to deal with someone with dementia. Also, one patient was bothering another, and the helpers laughed and didn't intervene. In the end, if there's a choice between Asbury and anywhere else, choose the other place.

"Avoid Asbury Gardens: Poor Communication, Unhelpful Staff, Uncomfortable Conditions"
My dad went to Asbury Gardens to recover after his hip surgery. Some staff were nice and helped out a lot, but I bumped into difficulties with almost everyone else. They're really bad at communicating. My dad got pneumonia while he was there and no one from the staff called me to inform me they took an x-ray, found pneumonia, and started him on antibiotics. The room where they eat and do activities is always too hot. When I asked about it, they said they keep it warm because the patients are usually cold, even though the rest of the place is freezing cold. I later heard a maintenance guy telling the staff to keep the curtains closed to help keep the room cool because there was something wrong with the air conditioning in there. It never got fixed while my dad was there. The social worker is almost impossible to get hold of and isn't helpful at all. The therapy staff don't know how to work with people with dementia. One patient was bothering another patient and the aides just laughed and didn't do anything. I could say more, but I'll finish by saying if there's another choice besides Asbury, go for it.

"Second Floor of facility like a Scary Movie!"
No way would I ever pay to put someone here! The first floor looked decent, but the second floor was for people with dementia, and it was like something from a scary movie! It was dark, the walls were a gloomy dark blue shade, and it was all very sad. I would never want my dear ones to stay there.

"Helpful and Supportive Staff at Asbury Gardens!"
After two months of rehab in one part of the facility, my mom was evaluated and accepted into the assisted living section. She had health and mobility issues for years, and I eventually had to move her to a nursing home. Although she didn’t stay at the assisted living side for long, I want to highlight the care and support we received from the nursing and business staff. I want to specifically mention Angela, the nursing director; Lisa, the admissions director; and Denise, the business manager. This was a tough time with surgery, rehab, and moving to different care levels. They were experts in their jobs and gave me valuable advice, always focusing on my mom’s well-being rather than what was best for them. If you want an assisted living place with friendly, supportive staff and residents, consider Asbury Gardens.

"Hazardous Living Conditions for Dementia Patients Unveiled"
Their so-called "memory care" division is simply a poor excuse. They don't truly "care" for the residents there. Sure, they feed them and handle their laundry twice a week. But, they don't ensure residents maintain their hygiene or motivate them to join in any activities, that is, when you can locate such activities. Plus, the staff, though friendly in demeanor, is inept at their jobs. Even though there should be an activity director, either they only work for sparse hours a day or they don't exist at all. Residents are left to wander the corridors, talking to themselves, or they're left isolated in their rooms. My buddy got way worse off since being at this facility, having had to make several emergency room visits due to uncleanliness, dehydration, depression, and lack of physical movement. This facility is a major HAZARD for those with dementia.

"Great Care and Spacious Living at Ashbury"
Ashbury is a great choice, especially since they accept Medicaid. It might not look very appealing from the outside, but the inside is very spacious and open. Since my mom started living here, there have been many updates and improvements. The care has been excellent, and the staff pays close attention to details. We are still adjusting, but I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far. It’s much better than the other places I visited, and I’m really glad we found Ashbury.

"Expensive Stay, Great Staff, but Facility Needs Upgrades"
The price at this assisted living place is pretty steep compared to others we saw. They charge extra for cable TV and phone. Plus, they make you pay a big, mandatory activity fee when you sign up, which is a bummer if your family member doesn't plan to do those activities. But on a positive note, the nurses, staff and folks who plan the activities are all really good, which matters a lot. We did have a problem with their manager not replying to two emails we sent about an issue with their elevator sometimes shutting down when people were in it. Given how much it costs to stay there, we feel the place should be in better shape. Their couches are ripped, cushions are worn out, and TVs in the public areas, while not often used by the residents, have really bad picture quality. The outside of the building, including the parking lot riddled with potholes, could use some fixes. When they did finally do a spring cleaning, their landscapers did a good job. The courtyard is a pleasant spot, but we didn't see people using it much. Residents can join in with a nice community garden. The living spaces themselves are decently sized, and the cleaning crew that comes every week is friendly. We picked this place partly because they have a pretty new memory care section and a new nursing home wing. We think maybe they paused updates to the assisted living area to build these, but now it definitely needs some touching up. When we visited, we focused on how the residents and staff interacted and missed the worn down public areas. Ideally, a place this pricey should look nice and have good staff.

They're doing a great job at Ashbury Gardens. It's a bit pricey, but I don't have much to compare it to. The activities are fun – they have card games, bingo, and memory games. They even offer exercise classes. My brother can't participate, but he enjoys watching. Overall, I'm really happy with the care they provide.
