"Good Experience, Room Waitlist Process Needs Work"
We picked out a room for my family member and ended up on a waiting list. They told us a room was ready, but then there were more delays. This went on for some weeks. They should have just let us wait without all the back and forth. That part could be better. The meals were tasty and had different choices each time. The people working there were super nice and always told us how much they liked having my family member around. We could always call or text the staff if we needed to ask something or talk about worries.

"Troubling Review of Filthy, Understaffed Assisted Living Facility"
This assisted living facility is just awful. My relative was there and it just kept getting filthier and more unbearable under the current manager. She doesn't seem to care at all - her only concern is packing the place with people who really shouldn't be in assisted living. She can put up a really convincing act, but don't fall for it. She's not even fit to be a manager or look after elderly individuals who rely on her. The food is no good. It's cold, burned, tough, and way too salty. The staff turnover is also really bad. Sure, there are a couple of staff members who have been there for a while and they're great, but they couldn't possibly make up for the poor quality of everything else. On some weekends, there's only one person in charge of the whole place, including both the Assisted Living and Memory Care sections. It's honestly a pretty frightening place to have someone.

"Uncaring Management and Poor standards at Assisted Living Facility"
The rooms shown during tours are spotless and the staff seems exceptional - but that's just surface level. This place seriously lacks enough staff and those available are not well-trained. The cleanliness is terrible and the management of the place is even worse. Try visiting the kitchen and you'll be surprised by the dirt on the cabinets and floor. The staff's breakroom is another example. Assess the meals being served, try them out. Pay attention to the residents who really need higher levels of care but are stuck here instead. The constant change in staff is an issue too. Five different nursing directors in just 4 years - what a red flag that is. The management at Bickford really needs to step up their game. They're unbothered and indifferent. Don't be tricked by their facade. There are much better options nearby like the highly rated Clarendale in Algonquin and the brand-new Melody in Lake in the Hills.

"Disappointing Care at Assisted Living; Poor Hygiene and Food Conditions"
I've been absolutely let down by the quality of care my mom was given here. Every day I would find her in quite a messy condition. They would even sometimes fail to bring her to the dining area for meals. The director made bunch of promises, but hasn't lived up to any of them. The meals are too often served cold, burnt, or not cooked properly. I don't usually like to complain, but I've started looking for somewhere else for my mom. I would advise steering clear of this place. They simply don't have enough CNAs, and the number of staff changes is worrying. There are even occasions when no staff members are available. It's honestly quite a shame, because the place seemed so pleasant during the tour.

"Assisted Living Review: Comfortable Setting, Not Ideal for Independent Seniors"
Bickford of Crystal Lake was one of our top three choices for my father and his wife. They wanted an apartment where they could live together. However, the available ones were too small, and my father didn't feel comfortable in such cramped spaces. Bickford feels inviting and homey, with beautiful grounds. It's great for those needing daily assistance. However, my father is more independent than most residents we saw. He felt it wasn't the right fit for them.

"Staff Needs Improvement in Communication!"
My wife just moved into this facility but is in the hospital right now because she's sick. I'm a bit unhappy with the workers there because I can't get a hold of them. Each time I try to call, I only get transferred from one person to the next instead of getting the information I need for my wife to come back.

"Feels Like Family Here"
We visited a few places, but none felt like this one. It really gives off a family vibe. The staff and residents seem happy and enjoy each other's company. They have a lot of activities to do. The food seems okay; my mom isn’t a big eater anyway, so it’s hard to judge.

"Smaller Community!"
I visited this community for my father, and I don't have any complaints. The staff were punctual and attentive during our tour. The facility was smaller than others I'd seen, but the only issue was the lack of respite care in the memory care unit.

"Decent Tour But Not Right for Mom"
I had a pretty good tour of this place. The look of the community was decent and everything seemed well-taken care of. The people who work here were nice to me and my family. I had a good time exploring, but it just didn't fit what my mom needs.

"Welcoming, Clean, and Family-Oriented"
I went to Bickford for a surprise visit and chatted with the boss. It looked really nice, no weird smells except for syrup, super tidy, lots of places to sit with comfy sofas. It felt more like a cozy home than a hospital. They help everyone get dressed and moving around. In the memory care area, there's one staff member for every seven people. They have a full-time nurse and the caregivers seem cheerful. There are 14 units for memory care, and it feels like being part of a big family. The monthly fee ranges from $5300 to $6190, depending on your needs, but they don't provide any furniture, not even a bed.

"Great Place, But Limited Room Space"
This place is very nice. The rooms don't have much space for Mom's things and clothes. There aren't many public lounge areas, but maybe just enough. It feels very family-like. They can handle having a dog, but we didn't check on extra charges for that. It's in a good location with lots of social activities. After our tour, the Social Director called us back for a nice chat and invited us to a picnic.
