Brookdale Vernon Hills

"Brookdale Vernon Hills Review"
The staff at Brookdale Vernon Hills were very attentive when helping us find the right place for my Mother-in-law. The meeting wasn't rushed, and we had time to discuss everything. We found a great community that met our criteria. The marketing, sales, and management teams worked together well to meet our unique needs. Now, after 5 weeks, the facilities and community are welcoming, and my Mother-in-law is making friends and enjoying activities. However, there's a minor issue with the bathroom heater that needs fixing.

"Assisted Living Facility Feels Empty, Like a Factory"
The place felt like a huge factory. It was so big, but I didn't see anyone around during the tour in the big room, the places everyone shares, or outside.

"Mixed Feelings about Communication and Medication Costs"
This is my first time dealing with assisted living, so I don't have anything to compare it to. But, I'm a bit frustrated because they hardly ever reach out to me. They don't update me on how he's doing or anything like that. The staff doesn't follow up either. He does have a doctor assigned to him, but I've only talked to him once. It costs a lot to manage his medicine, and you have to use their pharmacy. I got a big bill and most of it was for over-the-counter meds. I asked the nurse to call me so I could buy those meds, but I still haven't heard from anyone. But, all the staff are really nice, and moving in was easy. It's a good place, but there are things they could do better. Overall, I would suggest Brookdale Vernon Hills to others who are looking.

"Nice staff, informative tour, but couldn't keep loved ones together."
Our family visited for a tour. The staff was friendly and helpful. It would have been our top choice, but they couldn't accommodate keeping our loved ones together in the Alzheimer's wing, so we had to look elsewhere.

"Caring Staff and Nice Environment"
The staff is mostly loving and caring. Sometimes, when the leader is away, there’s no one to step in. The food could use improvement. Overall, I’m happy with the care. I appreciate the separate floors for different dementia levels, and the newly renovated environment is pleasant.

"Avoid Brookdale: Complaints about food, activities and music!"
My mom's place, it's just awful! Can you imagine for Christmas they're serving box food? And the choices are either tuna salad or egg salad. They never cook special meals for the Holidays, not to mention the food is always cold. Activities? Well, the fun stuff is limited. Most of the time they have them making jewelry to sell for Brookdale's profit. As for Christmas celebration, nothing. You'd expect at least some gingerbread house making. Happy Hour isn't any better either. Some candy or a tiny slice of cake is what they offer. Trivia games are all they play, which my mom can't stand. Just so stingy! Don't count on good music or bands, they hire a single musician like a violinist or something. Please think twice before sending your loved ones here!!!

"Clean, friendly, small rooms, good activities, location preference"
Newly built, clean, with friendly staff. Small rooms, but friendly residents. Not fully occupied. Many activities offered. Would prefer closer to Northbrook or Glenview.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living"
I’ve got plenty of pals here, which feels nice. Having folks to share meals and play games with is comforting. But sometimes, I wonder if the management really cares about us. They cut corners on food and exercise, yet rent keeps going up.”

"New Management Prioritizes Profit Over Resident Happiness in Assisted Living"
I've been living here for many years with my husband, and every time a new management takes over, like Brookdale, it seems like they only care about making money. They don't seem to care about making the residents happy. Many of our activities, such as our community Botanic garden, are no longer available. Our current CEO is pretty much a ghost - hardly ever seen. Important staff members have either quit or been fired. Every year my car's parking spot in the garage (which isn't even fully enclosed) goes up in price, even though the service doesn't get any better. On top of everything, I've been accused of things I didn't do, and nobody has ever apologized to me.

"Cozy Atmosphere, Great Food, Happy Residents – Slightly Pricier Option"
This place smells yummy when you walk in. They've got good food options and a nice dining room with a fireplace. The people living here and the staff all seem pretty content. It's just a bit more expensive than other places nearby.

"A great place with a few minor food issues!"
My mother is very happy here, and it's been great so far. Her apartment is really nice. She loved the pool and how the place looks because it doesn’t feel like a hotel or nursing home—it feels like a little resort. The food is okay, but since she is gluten-free, there aren’t many options for her. She wishes they had a buffet style to make meal times quicker. Besides that, it’s been a really good experience, and we are happy with our choice.

I liked the community because of the garden next to it. But my father felt isolated during his stay. Also, the 60-day decision period didn’t match the contract.

"A Cozy Community with Outdoor Vibes"
The apartments are small, and there’s no kitchen area. The community is nice, but it looks a bit tired. There’s a pool courtyard area, and when you open your front door, it feels like you’re outside.

"Kind and Welcoming Community"
This community is pleasant, and my tour went smoothly. Everyone was friendly, and the staff provided helpful information. The facility looked well-maintained. Although there are many activities, my mother, given her current stage of life, wouldn’t be able to participate. Overall, it’s a good place with kind and welcoming people.

""Not Recommended for Relatives With Alzheimer's/Dementia""
I wouldn't suggest this place if your mom or dad/grandma or grandpa is dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia at all. However, if they're not, it is actually a pretty good place. It really just did not fit our needs, and the cost was super high.

"Mixed Experience: Lovely Setting with Room Temperature Issues"
My mother-in-law, 93, moved in 9 days ago. The place is nice, people are friendly. Eating area is cozy but slow service. Our room, Paradiso, is small and hard to decorate. It gets really hot on the 4th floor with southern sun even in April. Hoping for better HVAC control when air conditioning is on.

"Look Beyond the Sales Pitch at Brookdale Vernon Hills"
Brookdale Vernon Hills: It's nice but pricey. Tried to find a good spot for my mom, and I checked out a bunch of different places. The cost is pretty high, though I know my mom deserves the best. But you have to think about what you can afford. I won't lie, the sign-up deals that saved a lot of money helped. People there were supportive when we were deciding, but that changed once Mom signed up and moved in. I understand it's their job, but when staff tells you to reach out to them with any questions, it's disappointing when they pass you off to somebody else. We've had some issues and haven't gotten a lot of help. Mom didn't get a proper introduction to her daily routine and they said it'd take a couple of weeks. That's not that helpful. This whole moving thing is hard for Mom. It would've been useful if they'd given her more guidance instead of just telling the family.

"Great Community with Laid Back Care and Family Friendly Amenities"
I think the place is really nice! The staff isn't super strict about care, which can be good and bad. It feels more like a place for people who are just retired, not really struggling with health stuff. Sometimes they take a little while to fix things, which isn't ideal. But we picked this place for a bunch of reasons. The community itself is awesome! It's like a rainforest, and the kids think it's cool! We can hang out with our family by the pool, which feels like a fancy hotel. And my loved one's room is nice too. We got a good deal on a big room, and we can decorate the entrance however we want. When we moved her in, it wasn't too overwhelming. We could take our time moving her stuff in, and her room already had everything she needed. Plus, if we ever need to cancel, we can do it without any problems for 60 days. And it's in a good spot, so it's convenient too. Overall, it's been a great choice.

"Lovely Assisted Living: Safe, Impressive, & Friendly!"
I visited this place, and it was stunning! It felt like paradise. The vibe here is unlike anywhere else. I asked a bunch of tough questions because I wanted to make sure it's somewhere I'd want my own family to stay. The staff showed me around and explained the different types of rooms they have. They're really well set up, whether you want to live independently or need some help. They've thought about safety too, which is great if mobility becomes an issue. One thing I wondered about was whether they had facilities for physical therapy, and they do! The people I know who live there are really happy with everything - the staff, the rooms, and the friendly atmosphere. If it fits your budget, I'd totally recommend this place!
