"Residents Well-Cared for; More Activities Would Enhance Experience"
The staff at this assisted living facility is usually caring and they all make an effort to meet the needs of the residents. Having more activities could make the experience even better, but the ones we currently have are really enjoyable.

"Great place with good care and safety for residents"
My sister is really happy at this place. She’s in the memory care unit, and she says it’s beautiful and the newer part is really nice. They could probably have more activities, but I understand that can be tricky with different needs. I’d recommend this place to others. They take covid seriously and keep everyone safe, plus they have nurses around all the time, which is great.

"Aged, poorly-maintained facility with inadequate services and unsocial residents."
This place is super old, with paint falling off everywhere and it's stinky too. They barely take care of it. The gardens are messy. It's pretty sad. The rooms are just like big dorm rooms. There's no shower in the bathroom, can you believe that? And the sink is tiny with no counter. The bathroom lights are also bad; I don't know how they expect old people with bad eyesight to use it. Their dining room was awful. I read the menu to my mom and she didn't like either of the two options – sweet and sour chicken and fried shrimp. It looked more like a hospital than a nice place for retirement. So sad. They do provide lots of help for the people living there, but mom doesn't need all that just yet. We're looking for a nice place, good food, where she can mix with others and get help when she needs it. Not a single person tried to convince my mom to live there. At other places, people came up and talked to her about how good it was. That didn't happen here.

"Staff Member's Rudeness Amplified the Pain of Loss"
You wouldn't believe what my late Grandma had to face sharing a building with the staff member. This woman was incredibly MEAN to me, not just once, but twice following my Grandma's passing. The staff are inconsiderately hanging up the phone on me on multiple occasions.

"Beautiful place, needs more staff"
The place looks great and feels really peaceful. They just need a bit more staff.

"Neglected Residents and High Cost at Local Assisted Living Facility"
The previous reviewer stated exactly what I wanted to express. The facility seems to have a new support staff every day, and they didn't even have any nursing assistants last weekend! I visited my elderly friend at 10 in the morning and found him in a soiled hospital robe. Our dentist confirmed that they don't clean patients' teeth as they should. Around half a dozen residents are always parked in their wheelchairs near the reception desk, calling out for assistance, only to be ridiculed by the workers. I am shocked that no one has filed a complaint with the state about this yet. And for all this, they charge a whopping $10,000 or more per month.

"Staff negligence at an extremely costly assisted living facility"
The previous reviewer pretty much nailed it. The staff turnover is a nightmare - different faces every day and this past weekend, not a single aide was on duty. My senior friend was not even properly looked after, found in a dirty hospital gown as late as 10 am. Our dentist also verified something that upset me deeply - they just don't do the teeth cleaning they promised. It's always filled with around six wheelchair-bound patients kept near the desk, desperately calling for help and being completely ignored, if not outright ridiculed, by the employees. I can't believe these issues haven't been flagged to state authorities yet. All this is happening while we pay a fortune, over $10,000 a month.

"Consider Options Before Choosing The Scottish Home"
If I had to pick a place for my mom or dad again, The Scottish Home wouldn’t be at the top of my list. Every time I went there, I saw lots of new staff members. I asked why so many people come and go, and they said it’s because hospitals offer better pay. When workers leave for a hospital job, they find out it’s a lot tougher. It’s pretty common to find my family member with food stains on their outfit during visits. The wheelchair isn’t any cleaner, often covered in food drops. I’ve inquired about how they help with morning clean-up, but they’re always short on helpers. We ended up brushing my mom’s teeth ourselves. Mealtime is especially tough. There are folks who need help eating, but there’s hardly anyone to assist them. It’s hard to leave without feeling sad. The Scottish Home only takes private payments. I’d say you should really look into it carefully before moving someone you care about into The Scottish Home. But I’ll give them this: the place itself is always spotless.

"Care Needed: Dirty Wheelchairs and Unbrushed Teeth at Scottish Home"
If I could do it again, I wouldn't choose this place for my parent. Every time I visited, I noticed a lot of new people working there. When I spoke with the person in charge about the high turnover of staff, they told me that Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) don't stick around long because they get paid more at hospitals. They also mentioned that being a hospital CNA is a lot harder. Don't be shocked if you visit to find your loved one with spilled food on their clothes. The wheelchairs can get really dirty with left-over food on them. When I asked about the morning hygiene routine, it was clear that they were always short on help. I had to brush my mom's teeth myself. Meal times were tough – a lot of residents needed help eating, but there were hardly enough staff members to assist. Leaving the place always left me feeling very sad. The Scottish Home is a 'private pay' facility, so you need to conduct thorough research before deciding to have your loved one stay there. On the bright side, The Scottish Home is always kept clean.
