"Awful Experience at Cedar Lake’s Memory Care Unit"
I wish I could give this place negative stars. My husband’s mom was in the Memory Care Unit not quite three months. It wasn’t good. She wasn’t checked out the right way before coming, and no one shared my info to the nurses. This meant she didn't belong there and had to move quickly to a new place. Her dementia got worse faster, and she died from it a month later. They told us the medics could give her needed mental health meds, but they couldn’t. They don’t have much to help patients, and they couldn’t handle my mother-in-law's late phase dementia. We even hired a caregiver to help her out. They can only help calm, controlled dementia patients. Memory Care of Cedar Lake’s feels bad. It’s not like a home, especially at night. Everyone just sits around staring at a TV. It feels like a hospital. Some workers looked upset and mad. I thought it was great they had been there since they opened, but it doesn’t matter. Even temporary workers can do better. Some employees were nice, but others just looked angry. Even if they were mad at us, it’s unprofessional to show it. We didn’t lie about my mother-in-law. No one asked us what was going on with her when she moved in. The person who is supposed to sell the place didn’t tell the nurses what I had told them. We had no clue they wouldn’t be able to handle her. Our caregiver reported a worker who was rough with my mother-in-law. Important meds that she was supposed to be getting were not all given to her. We figured this out because we noticed too many were left in the bottle when she left. I didn’t see many warm moments between the patients and employees. The food wasn’t always matched to her diet. The best part about Cedar Lake’s Memory Care was the activities. The folks who run those are great. Sometimes they let the Memory Care and Assisted Living do stuff together which was good for her. I wouldn’t recommend Memory Care to anyone, unless there’s a married couple where one needs regular help and the other needs Memory Care, and they want a place in Lake Zurich close to Hawthorn Woods. Even then, I'd warn them that if the dementia patient started acting out, they might still need to move or be separated.

"Untrustworthy Management and Shady Practices at This Facility"
Don't trust anything they say to you. The bosses here are totally useless. Don't give them money ahead of time, they'll just take it from you. Take it from me, I've been to a few of these types of places. This one is the most sketchy by far. Find another place for your loved ones.

"Poor Care and Communication in Assisted Living Facility"
My husband was at risk of falling, and they knew that from the start. But they don't use alarms to monitor falls, and they don't watch residents closely. They didn't put pads on the floor or bed. He fell out of bed and his wheelchair. They never helped him walk. Every time he fell, they sent him to the ER, but nothing was wrong. After a few weeks, I moved him out. The staff were often grumpy and had trouble speaking English. Some were great, but most were not. Now he's in a different facility that's wonderful. It's much safer, and I feel more satisfied.

"Great Location"
This place was a good choice for us. The location is just right, very convenient. My dad isn’t big on socializing with groups, so he prefers to keep to himself, which is fine. The staff here is wonderful—they respect my dad’s preference for solitude and take great care of his needs. He really enjoys the food; it’s great. The community is always clean and well-maintained; they do an excellent job. I’d recommend them.

"A Welcoming Place"
This place is nice, and there are friendly people here. My mom is doing okay, but my dad has been in the hospital for a while. The facility looks good, everything is well-maintained. The staff was really helpful when we needed extra assistance. They took good care of my parents. There are fun activities for the residents, and the food is enjoyable. Some of the staff and caregivers genuinely cared about my parents. I'd recommend it.

Dissatisfied and Disappointed
""Avoid Cedar Lake: All Talk, No Care.""
Cedar Lake is close to where we live, so it was an easy pick. They made things sound great, but that's all it was - talk. A lot of promises that weren't kept. We would frequently check on our dear family member, but she was usually alone. During her time there, she fell a few times because her condition was worsening. Sadly, she passed away before we could relocate her. Here's the blunt truth: having only two staff members to take care of over 20 people is risky, especially if their attention is on card games and not the elderly, no matter the time of day or night. And a certain manager they had seemed to care more about sticking to the rules than making sure our loved one was comfortable as she neared the end of her life. All in all, our experience with Cedar Lake was nothing but awful and filled with tension.

"Caring Staff Makes Cedar Lake Assisted Living Stand Out"
My mom moved into Cedar Lake when it first opened. We checked out a few other places, but Cedar Lake was the best for her. It's new, tidy, and not too big. But what really sold us were the employees! They're all so nice, smart, and really helpful. I like how they remember everyone's names, and whenever I visit, they always know where Mom is. Mom's happy, and you know what they say, when Mom's happy, everyone's happy!

"Cedar Lake: A Top Choice for Assisted Living"
I’m really happy with both the place and the staff. The facility is always clean and well taken care of. The staff looks after my family member and has been great at keeping me informed and assisting with her care. My relative started in Assisted Living and has now moved to Memory Care. The staff was super helpful during this transition. I’d recommend Cedar Lake to anyone looking for this type of facility.

"The Lake House made a big difference for my mom!"
My mom has been at Cedar Lake since it opened almost two years ago. At first, she was really unsure about moving. But in no time, she started feeling better both mentally and physically. She’s always busy with the many activities they offer and feels like she truly belongs here. The staff has been incredible in so many ways. I always want to give a shout-out to the front desk, activities directors, nursing staff, and aides. I’m really happy we chose "The Lake House," as we like to call Cedar Lake.

"Stay Away From Poorly Managed Cedar Lake Facility"
While this facility might appear appealing, it's a case of looks being deceiving as it is not well managed at all. Despite the lovely promises made by the sales representative while discussing the amenities for our relative, she pretended not to recognize us after our relative moved in. The entire top-level administrative team is absolutely dreadful and utterly unprofessional. Interacting with the Nursing Director was a constant struggle, often marked by inappropriate language - it was remarkably distasteful. Their skills and patience to manage individuals with dementia were seriously lacking. Although the caregivers dotted on our relative, their care was not effective overall since the upper management made all the final decisions. Only a handful of nurses stood out as excellent. Steer clear of Cedar Lake, look at other options unless you want the burden of shifting your relative later on.

"Disappointed: Beautiful Facility, Poor Staff and Levels of Care"
I wasn't pleased at all. Communication among various staff departments was poor. They wrongly assume that the residents can fend for themselves, so there's hardly any oversight. They also seem to slack off when it comes to following up. It's a relatively new place, suffering from understaffing, and the training level is not high. When a staff member gets sick and can't make it to work, there's no backup. The day-to-day staff, who are mostly young women, are okay. But things are quite disorganized. The place itself is beautiful, and the food is great, but the quality of care is absent. I was far from impressed.

"Mixed feelings about assisted living uncertain about fee stability."
I haven't seen the new place, but I met the managers before. They said it's good, but my friend had a problem at a similar place with fees. They said one thing but then charged more, and they might do the same here. They check fees every 90 days, so the price could go up. That's not what I want.
