"Facility left mom homeless, penniless after COVID contagion"
This facility took all of my mom's money, then let her become homeless after catching COVID in their care. The way they treat older folks is really disappointing. I'd not even give them one star if it were possible.

"Avoid Eastgate! They Deceive and Only Want Independent Residents."
We were super upset with Eastgate's admission meeting. It felt like the Head Nurse just wanted a reason not to let my sister in. She's been at another home for old folks for three years. The person in charge of admitting people made us feel good after we visited twice, even showing us an apartment. But this place, even though it gets money from the government to help old folks, seems to only want folks who can do most stuff on their own. If your family member needs help, don't send them here! They tricked us and we were totally shocked when the Head Nurse and the big boss said my sister couldn't come.

"Assisted Living Choice Provides Comfort and Peace of Mind"
We chose The Pointe because they know the area well and had been here before, making them more comfortable. The staff is amazing—very friendly and helpful. When both my parents had COVID, they were sent to a nursing home that wasn't ideal for them. I understand it's for safety, but more activities would be nice. Overall, I recommend this place. It gives me peace of mind.

"Unreasonable Entrance Test Torments Elderly Aunt at Eastgate Manor"
My aunt's entrance test for Eastgate Manor in Algonquin, Illinois was completely unreasonable and absurd! Everything went fine until my aunt had to undergo the final screening process. She's 86 years old and spent four hours in a freezing small room with a so-called "professional" asking weird and silly questions. There was only one 15-minute break and she couldn't even go to the bathroom when she wanted to. I know this because I was waiting for her outside. Doing such a thing to an old person is insane! My aunt was like a wreck afterwards, feeling angry, upset and reduced. For a whole week following the test, she cried everyday, was angry and cranky, didn't want to eat and didn't want to see anyone. Is this how you treat an elderly person? If yes, I don't want my aunt, or any other relative in this place. I assure you, I won't recommend Eastgate Manor to anyone! As a healthcare professional, I was shocked to see what they put my aunt through just to gain entry into their facility. I know that there is no specific test to identify dementia, Alzheimer's or any other memory loss issues. Putting an elderly person through a test like this is wrong, and something they should feel ashamed of! I've moved my aunt to another facility which is more beautiful and has a kind and understanding staff. She's thriving there and living happily in her own apartment, managing her own life, participating in activities and making many friends. I'm saying it again, I would NOT recommend Eastgate Manor to anyone!

"Eastgate Manor Scandal: Agonizing Screening Traumatizes Elderly!"
The admission process at Eastgate Manor in Algonquin, Illinois, is just plain crazy! Everything was going fine until it came to the final screening. Let me tell you, it was dreadful. My Aunt, who's 86, had to sit in a freezing tiny room with a so-called "professional" asking her all sort of silly, over-the-top and senseless questions for a solid 4 hours! They gave her just one puny 15-minute break and didn't even let her use the bathroom when she needed to. Of course, I knew it was 4 hours because I was stuck waiting for her. It's mind-blowing that they would do this to elderly people! This whole thing left my Aunt feeling really shaken up, embarrassed, upset, and totally ticked off. After that bad screening, my Aunt was an emotional wreck for a week! She was crying all the time, getting mad, refusing to eat, and didn't want to see anyone. Is this how you're meant to treat old folks? If so, I would never let anyone in my family go near this place. No way will I be telling anyone to go to this place! As someone who works in healthcare, I couldn't believe what my Aunt had to go through just to get admitted. I know there isn't a specific test for dementia, Alzheimer's or any other memory issues. Putting elderly people through such a "screening" is wrong and they should feel completely ashamed! I've since moved my Aunt to a way nicer facility. Here, the workers are attentive, caring and really nice to her. She's doing great now, living in her own apartment, taking her own meds, getting involved in activities and making plenty of friends. I'll say it again: I would NOT tell anyone to go to Eastgate Manor!

"First Impression of Eastgate Manor: Could Be Better"
I wasn't really wowed by Eastgate Manor. I didn't even step foot inside because the parking lot looked pretty run-down when I drove in. Just from the outside, it looked like the building itself wasn't in the best shape either. Plus, I was in a rush, however, my first look at the place didn't give a good vibe.

"Affordable Assisted Living with Amenities, Some Limitations, and Considerations"
This assisted living place costs $3246 each month and it's $574 per square foot. They've got a nice menu with lots of choices, but they don't consider special dietary needs like low salt or diabetic options. They clean the rooms once a week and there's an emergency pull cord in every room, which is good. But there's no bathtub in the room, you gotta go up to the third floor for that. Also, if someone can't give themselves insulin, they'll have to move out. On the bright side, they do your laundry for free.

"Eastgate Manor: Clean, Supportive, Independent Living for Loved Ones"
We liked Eastgate Manor a lot. It was super clean. They provide lots of stuff for the people living there. It helps our family member with the help he needs, but also lets him do things on his own.
