"Mixed Feelings on Staffing, Still Recommend Heritage Woods"
We chose Heritage Woods of South Elgin for its location, Medicaid acceptance, and good vibes. After touring 7 places, this felt the best. The sales director was friendly and responsive, and management addressed our concerns promptly. However, shortly after moving in, the entire nursing staff left, leaving only one nurse and corporate staff to fill in. Despite this, I would still recommend them to others.

"Assisted Living Experience Falls Short; Mixed Feelings and Concerns"
This place is pretty big and has a lot of people living there. My family member stayed for just over two weeks. I didn't get to visit much, mostly just on moving day. The building itself seemed clean, but the entrance during winter was gross. There were cigarette butts where people smoked, making it unpleasant to enter. They were supposed to clean the rooms weekly, but I don't think they did while my loved one was there. They did her laundry once, maybe. The salesperson was nice, and the manager seemed honest and friendly. However, some of the nurses seemed rushed and not very friendly. My family member ended up falling, and I think she needed more care than they realized. When she went to the hospital, there wasn't a registered nurse available to talk to me on the phone. It was a messy and disappointing experience. Moving her out was stressful. The only good thing was that she liked the food. It didn't seem like there were any activities because of Covid.
