"Poor Care at Oak Park Arms, Forced Move Out"
We're disappointed with Oak Park Arms because they didn't properly understand my mom's needs. They made her move out in under two months which has been really stressful. We don't suggest going to Oak Park Arms Retirement Community if you have any kind of needs.

"Great Spot for Seniors, but Chair Lifts are a Hassle"
The staff gave us a nice welcome to this neat and historic building, which has been changed into a place for older people to live. The design of the place is cool, it's in a good spot, and there's a lot of fun stuff for the people living there to do. We didn't really like the chair lifts, though - they were hard to use and pretty noisy.

"Clean Community, Wonderful Activities"
Our time at Oak Park Arms has been great. The staff sometimes need better communication, but they’re excellent overall. I like how clean the community is, and there are lots of activities to keep everyone busy. I’d recommend Oak Park to others.

"A Caring and Convenient Place for Dad’s New Home"
Dad is doing really well since he moved to Oak Park. The staff is awesome they check on him often, help him out, and work with us. They really seem to care about everyone living there. He likes the food, and the place is always clean. They also take care of his laundry and linens. There are lots of activities, and he's started joining a few. Plus, it’s very close to the hospital. I definitely recommend it.

"Helpful staff at a visibly aging Oak Park facility"
The folks at Oak Park were really friendly when they showed us around. But, the building's pretty old, with long, dim corridors. It's clean, but it really needs a makeover or maybe even a rebuild.

"Headline: "Be Wary of Hidden Lease Clauses and Unfair Practices""
Watch out before you finalize the lease with Oak Park Arms. The management sneaks an extra addendum about medical care into the paperwork. If this is so crucial, why not just include it in the actual lease? I was left out of the loop for half a year, because they didn't include it in the copies of the documents they gave me. And, in case of any medical emergency that forces you or your family member to leave, they'll slap you with two additional months of rent. No matter if their care isn't good enough, or even if you have doctors and round-the-clock caregivers stating that their facility isn't up to par. Can you believe they actually had the nerve to tell me they wouldn't need the extra two months rent if my mom had died there? Moreover, they'll pocket your security deposit without showing any proof of damages. When I asked for the deposit back, they simply estimated costs and refused to cooperate with my renters insurance. Lastly, they double dipped by renting out the same apartment while still charging my mom rent. It's all about the green for them, always scheming ways to get more money from the residents. They've now even made it compulsory to do automatic account withdrawal just so they can get their hands on the rent faster and without the tenant's control. Just so you know, this isn't about the folks who do the actual work there – they were really caring and kind. My issue is with the management team." .

"Warm, professional staff, great service"
This is an older facility with a surprisingly high level of maintenance and service. From the front desk to the professional staff to housekeeping, our family was warmly welcomed by people who remembered our names. My sister needed an opening right away. The staff worked hard with other social services to make sure her needs were met or planned for. Thank you to Oak Park Arms.

"Unsatisfactory Experience and Delayed Refund at Oak Park Arms"
My mom lived at Oak Park Arms for a year or so. She had been living around that area most of her life and was thrilled to move into a facility she knew. Before that, she was at a lovely nursing home in the western suburbs, but chose to move here. At first, the staff seemed nice. But as time went on, my mom started to complain about some staff members who were unkind to her. Sometimes, she was so upset she would cry. Initially, we interacted with one manager, but soon found out she got fired because of drama at the office, and then we had to put up with a super rude manager. Then my mom got sick and needed extra care, which led to her moving to another nursing home. She was at Oak Park Arms for just one day of a month before being rushed to the hospital, but they still wanted payment for the entire month. They were also in a hurry for us to move her stuff out even though we had a month left. We had paid for an extra month's stay before knowing my mom had to leave. And getting a refund after her passing took us over half a year, with lots of phone calls and letters. We felt it was totally unfair of them to keep the money we needed for my mom's expenses and the long delay in the refund was just ridiculous. I know nursing homes need to make money, but we felt like this one was all about the dollars.

"Homey, lots of activities and exercise, accommodating, personal level of care"
I noticed that the assisted living facility really focuses on individual care. They tailor everything to personal needs, which is great. Unlike other places where you just get standard things based on your care level, this one stands out. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. When we moved our friend in at 6:00 on a Friday night, they were very accommodating. The atmosphere feels like home—warm and inviting. Some other places we checked out looked like fancy five-star hotels, but they didn't have that cozy feeling. They offer a variety of activities like yoga, tai chi, board games, Wii, and movie nights. I can't rate their care personally, but overall, it's a homey place with lots of activities and a personal touch.

"Wasn’t the best equipped for more assistance"
This place had different levels of care, but it might not have been enough for her. She stayed there after leaving the hospital, and it was close by. We weren’t sure how things would go—it was like night and day. She was there for about 3 months on a trial basis. They had to remind her a lot and help with bathroom and showering. The building was old, so it wasn’t set up well for her. The shower had a ledge to step over instead of being wheelchair-friendly.

"Beware, they have very shady business practices"
Beware, their business ethics are really shady. I tried to raise my concerns with the BBB (Better Business Bureau), but they just flat out ignored me. Right now, I'm pursuing a fraud claim with the attorney general of the state of Illinois.

"Good, but Security and Common Areas Could Be Better"
Security is a bit worrisome because the public can get to the floors where people live. Outside of that, it's pretty great - the apartments are bright and cheery. The common spaces could be better; they're dark and a bit cramped.
