"Neglected Elder: My Dad's Medical Needs Ignored in Facility"
They weren't giving my dad his medication. Each evening, I would ask the nurse why he didn't receive all of his prescribed drugs. On the day he passed away, I was in fact heading to the facility with a list to review it. The Veterans Affairs said that he needed one particular drug every 12 hours, stressing its importance. Despite asking the nurse about this daily, the routine didn't change. The first morning he woke up, I happened to arrive at his apartment at 8 am. To my shock, my dad was crying out, 'help me!!!' We were assured they would keep a close eye on him, but clearly, they did not.

The reason we chose Story Pointe was because they didn't have showers in the bedrooms. I thought having showers there could cause someone to fall. I had read good reviews about Story Pointe, and their assisted living and private apartments are really nice.

"Inadequate Care at StoryPoint Romeoville Leads to Tragic Loss"
Our relative sadly didn't stay long at StoryPoint Romeoville, so we can't say anything about the food or activities. The workers were nice, but only three days after moving in, our family member passed away. They had problems giving him his medicines the right way. From what we saw, they need to do better in taking care of people.

"Acceptable Senior Living Facility with Improvement Opportunities"
My mom lived at Senior Star at Weber Place in the Independent Living area for about two and a half years. The place is pretty neat and the folks who work there are nice. They do a lot of cool things, though not many people show up and they don't try hard enough to make things different. My mom couldn't eat their food because it upset her stomach, and they wouldn't lower our bill at all. Once she quit eating in their cafeteria, they stopped checking on her at night even though she's prone to falling. I practically had to make them call her. Their front desk didn't help us as much as they used to. I think that’s because some of their staff left. When we were moving out, we noticed the friendlyness dip. One coffee spill on the rug, and they decided to keep our 500 dollar deposit. They made up other damages to keep all of our money when we know there weren't any. And, I can't find our move-out walkthrough sheet. I'm giving them 3 stars though because it's not a bad place, they just have some stuff to work on.

"Very big facility with lots of activities to participate in"
My family visited this place while searching for a home for my Dad. I really liked the staff and the overall atmosphere. The building was quite large, though, and I worried Dad might get lost if he wandered around. The caregivers were very helpful and answered all our questions. We appreciated that they offered skilled care, so if Dad got seriously ill, he could stay here for life. They had plenty of activities, including an indoor pool. Although the pool was small and mainly for physical therapy, it felt safe with supervision. Unfortunately, we had to choose another place because this one was a bit too far from our needs.

"Exceptional care and welcoming atmosphere at assisted living facility"
The lady who helped us was really nice. She listened to what we needed and explained everything clearly. Nobody pushed us to make a decision. The people living there were really friendly. You have to pay by yourself, they don't take Medicaid. I didn't even have an appointment but they were still really nice about showing me around.

"Mom Left Quickly, But Quality Assisted Living Facility Overall"
Sadly, my mom didn't realize the big decision she was making by shifting to an assisted living facility. This place is good, but sadly, within a day, she moved out. Her leaving was not due to any issue with the facility; she wasn't ready for the change yet. They have pleasant employees, and it looked well-maintained. Even though it didn't work out for us, I would still suggest this place to others.

"Excellent Care for My Parents"
We're happy with how the staff take care of my parents. The care is really good. Everything's going well. The only problem is they're not very quick to respond when the button is pushed, it takes them a while. But overall, it seemed like the best choice when we looked at other places, and I'd definitely suggest this place to others who need it.

"Falling short: Poor cleanliness and medication oversight"
When we walked in, the place was clean. After only one day, though, the care workers had disordered everything and cleanliness was not their main concern. The nurse did not even read the details about the resident's medication and was on the verge of not providing the necessary drugs. She also lost her cool, which made talking with her a headache. We only got the medication after pointing out that it was needed, and had to instruct the nurse on how to give the drug correctly because she was clueless.

"Review: Facility Not Licensed for Advanced Level Care - Romeoville, IL"
I went to visit Tim at this senior care facility. The place was tidy and friendly, and we did all the initial paperwork. Tim even had his nursing examination. But, after spending an hour there, we discovered that the facility wasn't certified to cater for those requiring advanced care, like in Tim's case since he has a colostomy. This was a big letdown given that I had thought this would be the perfect place for him.

"Great floor plan for parents"
I believe the facility could do a little more to help residents get around to stores and improve their van services. My parents live in Assisted Living there, and it's the only place in the area with the same floor plan as Independent Living. Having identical floor plans for both AL & IL is a huge plus for my parents; it makes them feel at home rather than in a hospital room. The rooms are a good size.

"Looks Can Be Deceiving - Assisted Living Facility Falls Short"
The facility seems more interested in their profits than in creating a homey atmosphere, a complaint I have after seeing this myself when I visit my family members. The newly appointed head of memory care isn't very friendly and not open to discussing the care my relative receives, leaving me feeling unheard. On the brighter side, the staff is commendable and despite a few issues, I appreciate their assistance in resolving them. But the overall environment has pushed us to consider relocating our family members, especially with the number of staff opting to quit which indicates a bigger problem.

"Better value and great staff make this a solid choice."
I’m happy with Senior Star at Weber Place. Nothing is perfect, but the staff is very friendly. It’s a better value than a few other places I visited and fits his budget. The staff clean for him, and he’s getting back into the world after being alone for a while. He’s even hard to reach sometimes because he’s out on bus trips. This shows he’s doing really well and seems satisfied with the facility.

"Some Issues with Staff & Facilities, Despite Decent Features"
The food at the assisted living facility is impressive with a wide variety to choose from. You can have supper from 4 pm to 6 pm, and it's wise to arrive earlier as some dishes may run out. However, you might have to wait a while before you get your food even after placing your order, which is quite frustrating. They're working at training the staff better though. The staff is assigned to specific tables, and they only cater to those at their tables, ignoring others. They're all very kind but seem to only serve some folks, before going off to chill. I attended a meeting where they explained that some chefs couldn't make it to work due to bad weather. I chose the facility because it's really clean and looked nice. The staff I interacted with is really friendly. My room has been cleaned once and hasn't been done ever since. They put on films every evening, but the films are pretty old - no new ones. If you subscribe, you can watch 40 channels, but there are no premium channels. I was somewhat disappointed by the activities. They said there were many younger folks, in their 60's and 70's, but most people are in their 80's. The bigger community doesn't seem quite welcoming. I also noticed quite a few issues with my apartment: the cabinets slam too hard, the doors are hollow, and some sounds can be heard through the walls, like my neighbor's t.v. The rooms are a bit small for the amount I pay every month – $3000. They have the same old activities like Wii bowling, bingo and more. Before choosing this facility, make sure to visit at different times of the day and ensure that the other residents are people you'd be comfortable with. Also, make sure you understand their cleaning schedule and requirements. The facility has an underground garage, which costs between $65 and $75 monthly depending on your proximity to the elevator. Nonetheless, it's well maintained.

"Senior Star: Not Worth the High Price, Poor Care Given"
Senior Star is all show and no action, treating their incoming tours better than their actual residents and staff. When visitors arrive, the staff gets a heads-up so they can pretend to look busy. Top management seems to turn a deaf ear to any problems or issues raised by the residents, their families, or even the staff. It's nearly impossible to find the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing, or the Health Services Manager. They seem to avoid the families and residents. Senior Star always seems to be short-handed. The staff on duty try their hardest, but it's not easy taking care of so many people. The facility claims to be an Assisted Living Facility, but it feels more like a nursing home. Senior Star seems ill-equipped to handle some of the behaviors that occur. Some are dementia-related behaviors, but some are deeper psychological issues. I saw this firsthand when I visited my uncle once and there was a resident upfront yelling at the staff and trying to hit them. Later on, I saw the same lady screaming with no one near her, as if they were all scared. The place is clean and some staff members are friendly. But considering the cost, the service is just not up to the mark. As for activities, I haven't seen any happening. Should you consider Senior Star? I suggest not. I'm trying to convince my family to move my uncle somewhere else. Any place would be better than Senior Star.

"Memory Care Facility Misses Mark, Fails Expectations - A Review"
We were extremely let down by the Memory Care facility. Despite boasting about high-quality service, we didn't see it in action. We frequently saw residents simply placed in front of a TV while the staff chatted among themselves. Dismayingly, we found our mother soaked in her own urine on several occasions, prompting us to take her to the bathroom ourselves. Her hair was often unclean, so we paid more for an external hairdresser. Interaction was minimal, with only the receptionist acknowledging us. The food lacked appeal, and we heard from other visitors about staff behaving abusively. Considering the high cost, we anticipated exemplary service, not this 2-star treatment.

"Avoid This Facility, Noticeably Poor Care And Unfulfilled Promises!"
Once my dad moved into this assisted living facility, things took a sharp turn for the worse. He's steadily gotten worse, dealing with problems like bed sores, and getting admitted to the hospital more frequently. From what I've seen and what the hospital doctor concurs, they're not doing a good job of keeping dad clean or changing his clothes. It's disgusting that there've been times when I myself had to change him during my visits. The caregivers here seem totally uninterested in doing their jobs. Mostly, they're just idling around, either glued to the TV or just standing. Plus, the atmosphere for the residents is dull and disappointing - all they do is watch television or just sit around. It's really sad to see that the person in charge of memory care rarely leaves her office to interact with the people she's supposed to be caring for. It's disappointing and infuriating how many promises this place makes, and just doesn't deliver. For the sake of your loved ones, I suggest trying to find a better place!

"Unsuitable Assisted Living Facility: A Caregiver's Nightmare"
Dreadful Facility for Care of Loved Ones" This assisted living facility is a terrible choice for your loved ones. The place is alarmingly understaffed, which poses a serious danger for the number of residents they have. Particularly concerning is their memory care unit; it's much too small to accommodate the residents comfortably as it is extremely crammed. Also, the facility itself isn't maintained well; the chairs and carpet are disgustingly dirty and have a strong urine stench. As for the residents, a lot seem to be improperly placed in there and could potentially pose a threat to the other dwellers and the staff, as they appear to be not well-medicated. The food served was appalling; the cut-up hotdogs in beans were unappetizing and reminded me of prison food. It seems that all this facility does is make empty promises to get your money. Once your loved one is moved in, they cease caring about them. Further, the woman in charge of the memory care unit, named Pat, was strikingly rude and seemed as if she was under considerable influence of drugs or alcohol. Your family definitely deserves better than this place.

"Facility Underdelivers on Promised Care, Saves Grace with Decent Food"
This assisted living facility seems appealing from the outside. They presented a convincing image, but they haven't upheld it. The partner system they told us was available doesn't exist. The round the clock checks every two hours are not done. There have been days where my mom hasn't even seen a staff member. She's been living there for a fortnight and they haven't washed her clothes yet. I had to do it myself. Everything isn't as we were assured it would be. On a positive note, mom does say the meals are tasty.

We really like Senior Star so far! Our only issue is that sometimes they take a while to respond when we need assistance. But that might be because our expectations are high due to our loved ones. "Comfortable living with friendly staff, slow response time"
We think this place is pretty good, but there's one thing that could be better. Sometimes when residents press their call button, it takes a bit long, like more than 10 minutes, for someone to come. That might not sound like a big deal, but for the resident, it could feel like forever, especially if they really need help. But, overall, we really like it here. The rooms are big and fit all our furniture nicely. It feels cozy, like a real home mixed with a fancy apartment. And the staff? They're all really nice and always have a smile on their faces. Plus, there's always something fun happening around the place.

"Underwhelmed by Promises and Staff Quantity at Senior Star"
I placed my mom in this facility for a short period. I believe the management was more focused on cashing their monthly checks rather than addressing my concerns. The assurances given to us during our visit turned out to be hollow once she moved in. They are short on staff, with caregivers supposed to look after too many patients and even fewer nurses to assist. I think I could get better care for my mom by hiring help at the same cost as this place. Be sure to ask about the patient-to-nurse/caregiver ratio and the number and schedule of daily activities. This place might work if your loved one doesn't require much attention, but if they do, consider arranging help within their home.

At first, it was hard to make decisions because I wanted to honor my mom's wishes, even if I didn't always agree. The staff at Senior Star were very persistent but also patient with my situation. I don't usually like frequent calls and pushy marketing, but with clear goals, everything we planned worked out well. After changing so much of her life, my mom was homesick for about a week. Now, she gets the therapy she needs and has a smile on her face! Most of the staff are helpful, cheerful, and genuinely positive. "Lovely place, but ask direct questions before moving in"
My grandma had a tough time at first because she knew this would be her new home, but she didn't want to go. I think that's how all seniors feel. Now, after almost 3 months, she's a different person. She's happy, loves her room, says everyone who works there is fantastic, and enjoys the food. I like Senior Star because it's close to family. This place is almost brand new, only open for 3 or 4 years. As a retired nurse, I see things differently; this place is spotless and very clean. We're very pleased with it. It's a lovely place. It wasn't an easy decision, but she's very happy now. My only advice to families is to ask lots of questions and dig deep. We liked the lady we talked to, but they're salespeople, so if you don't ask, they won't tell you everything.
