Bickford of Carmel

"Great place for Dad during Covid caring and well-trained staff."
My dad went to Bickford of Carmel right before Covid hit. It was a huge relief for us because they really understood how to take care of him, both physically and emotionally. They made sure the staff knew exactly how to handle his diabetes.

"Mixed feelings about Bickford of Carmel assisted living facility"
We visited Bickford of Carmel and it seemed neat and tidy, with lovely apartments, though they were a bit cramped. The people working there were friendly and they addressed our concerns. Overall, it was okay, but it didn't quite match what we were looking for, especially considering the high move-in fee.

"Beautiful Community, Small Apartments, High Move-in Fee"
The Bickford of Carmel seemed nice and clean. Apartments were beautiful but small. Staff was nice and answered our questions. It was a nice experience, but not the right fit for us. Move-in fee was more than we wanted to pay.

"Mixed Experience at Bickford of Carmel"
Our time at Bickford of Carmel wasn't great. The place looked nice and clean. Food seemed good. But, the care and staff weren't impressive. They didn't fully understand my loved one's needs. They said it was a good fit, but soon said we needed 24-hour help. Families should be cautious when considering this place.

"Subpar Experience with Care and Management at Bickford of Carmel"
Bickford of Carmel didn't give us a great impression overall. The place itself looked fine, clean and well-maintained; even the food seemed good. But, the care and management teams didn't hit the mark. They didn't evaluate my family member's needs properly. They said he would fit in, then shortly after he moved in, told us we'd need to get 24-hour help from someone outside. From what we went through, I'd suggest families make sure their loved one really fits before picking this place.

"Nice Care with Room for Improvement!"
Our time at Bickford of Carmel has been pretty good. I like how they take care of people there. Everyone, even the bosses and other office workers, pitches in with cleaning and serving food. It mostly works great, and everyone living there gets lots of help and attention! Sometimes, though, they could be more organized. But overall, my family member is happy here!

"Exceptional, Cozy, and Pet-Friendly Assisted Living"
Bickford of Carmel is amazing. The staff really knows a lot about dementia, so it’s great to know that if my loved one’s condition gets worse, they won’t have to leave. Bickford will provide the extra care needed. We also like that the building is just one level and smaller compared to others nearby. This means residents get care and attention faster. Plus, they’re pet-friendly, which makes my loved one very happy! I’ve already recommended Bickford to others and will keep doing so.

"Happy with Bickford’s safe, friendly environment for my dad"
I moved my dad to Bickford a month ago, and I’m very happy with the choice so far. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I live out of state, and when my dad ended up in the hospital, I had to quickly find an assisted living place for him. I like that Bickford is one level and laid out in a square. Other places I looked at had apartments on upper floors with elevators. My dad has dementia, so I didn’t think he could easily find his way around those places. I also like the security-coded doors; it gives me peace of mind knowing my dad can't wander off. The rooms are smaller and more expensive than the other places I checked out, but the overall environment is very pleasant, and the residents seem happy.

"Extremely Disappointing Memory Care at Assisted Living Facility"
Our time at this assisted living facility, which we'll refer to as "Bickford of Carmel" for the purpose of this review, was unpleasant. Our family member, was in their care for two weeks. She has moderate dementia, but the staff treated her like she only needed minimal assistance. For example, she didn't get the bi-hourly bathroom reminders recommended for patients with her condition, and she was expected to find the restroom on her own. This resulted in accidents that the care home used to justify ushering her out. They didn't announce her departure in advance. When we asked the care home to extend her stay due to an unexpected health issue faced by her caregiver, they refused. Also, her medication ran out during a week, and the nurse did not make any effort to refill the prescription. Neither did they contact our family about it. Moreover, they were pretty lax about giving her hearing aids promptly in the morning. Poor personal hygiene and cleanliness were other issues. Her teeth and hair were often left unbrushed. The room's upkeep was also below par. Furthermore, her showers, agreed in writing to be twice a week, happened only once, and they had to be prompted to even do that. No help was provided during meal times and she was often left unattended. Also, the basic amenities like laundry, linens, towels, and cleaning supplies were not provided throughout her stay. Despite our frequent visits, the home did not take good care of her. They held our visits against us, clinging to the excuse that they didn't need to do as much since we were around often. From this experience, we've learned to distrust places that claim to offer both assisted living and memory care. We would advise others to stick with facilities that specialize in memory care for dementia or Alzheimer patients. Here are some tips from us: - Read as many reviews as you can before you make a decision. - Let your loved one try out the facility for about 2 weeks to get an idea of the quality of care. - Visit the facility unexpectedly to get an accurate sense of the place and staff.

"Great place, but pricey."
I really liked this place, but it was pretty expensive, way more than what Mom pays now. I didn't get to see any of the activities, though.
