"Disappointing Care at Memory Facility"
My mom's been at the memory care place for 3 months. We wanted her to get baths, eat, and have her hair washed. But none of that happened. She wears the same clothes for days, lost weight, and hasn't been bathed. When I visit, she's in a dark room or sleeping fully dressed. They don't even change her hearing aid batteries. We're really unhappy with the care and will move her out.

"Spacious and Convenient Assisted Living"
Our family really likes how spacious Independence Village of Carmel is. Everything is conveniently close by. Based on our experience, we'd recommend it to others looking for a place for their loved ones.

"Feels like home, but staff inexperienced."
Liked it here, felt a bit like home. Smaller environment but nice. Our only concern was the staff. The two we spoke to had very little time on the job.

"Needs Unmet at Assisted Living Facility"
My family member stayed at this place for a short time. The boss called me to say they didn’t have enough people to take care of her the way she needed. I’m not sure if they just didn’t have enough workers or if they couldn’t handle her specific needs. But I did see that they were short on staff. There weren’t enough people to help her walk to places like the dining room or go to the bathroom. We talked about these needs before she moved in, so they knew. They did tell me about some other places that might be better for her. Also, the outside doctors they use are really good. She saw a Nurse and a Wound Doctor, and they were both awesome! But all in all, it wasn’t a good experience. I wouldn’t tell my friends or family to go here.

"Carmel Senior Living"
My very elderly mother was happy for the most part in Assisted Living at Carmel Senior Living. The facility is lovely with good food. She required very little other than apartment cleaning, laundry and food service and was happy enough with those services most of the time. The lack of dining room service was an issue, sometimes taking 25+ min to get served.. To be fair, they had a shortage of quality help, but meals should take precedence. As a visitor, the only complaint is with the parking. Always an issue to find a spot since the residents and staff take most of them.

"Top Choice After a Great Tour!"
My mom and I visited Carmel Senior Living. We want to check out senior living places before she needs one, rather than waiting for a medical issue. She gave us the tour and did a great job showing us their activities, room options, meals, and staff. Out of the five places we've seen, Carmel Senior Living is our top choice for my mom’s future. The facility was clean and bright. The staff greeted us with smiles, and the residents looked happy and well cared for.

"Friendly Staff and Beautiful Facility!"
Staff was really friendly, easy to talk to, and helpful. She was excited to show us everything we wanted to see on our tour, even an empty model so we could picture how it might look. It was great to see a washer and dryer in the unit. The whole facility is very nice with beautiful furniture and decorations. The fireplaces and cozy common areas felt welcoming. The outdoor spaces were also really nice. The menus looked great, and it was cool to see that meals can be served from 7 am to 7 pm. That’s a great benefit and not something you find everywhere.

"Review of Carmel Senior Living"
My friend and I joined recently, and even though the place is still getting some finishing touches, we’re excited to be part of the changes. The staff is friendly, although they do switch around a lot. We’ve started an ambassador club with six members who help newcomers settle in.

"Impressed but price and availability issues at Carmel Senior Living"
I liked Carmel Senior Living. The staff were nice and cared about my family's needs. But, they didn't have the right rooms when we needed them. Even though everything was included, the price seemed too much for the small rooms.

"Affordable and Comfortable Living Space with Considerate Staff"
We visited a very nice place. The rooms were pretty and spacious. In the independent living rooms, there's a button you press in the morning to let them know you're awake. We didn't try the food there. The person who showed us around, [name removed], was very kind. The reason we decided it wouldn't work for us was that the price would double when you needed assisted living, and you'd have to switch apartments. We thought that would be too disruptive. Also, it was a licensed facility, which was very important to us.

"Needs Improvement: Concerned Over Care at Memory Facility"
Thanks for the chance to express my thoughts. It's undeniably tough having a loved one in a memory care home. I understand no one can care for them quite like I do, but some improvements are in order. I've conferred with other residents' families about these issues. 1. The care and attitude of staff members seem unkind and robotic, often rushed and rough. Evidence of this is seen in the bruises and scrapes on my mother's hands. Mom isn't confrontational - she's generally happy and peaceful, though occasionally stubborn and puzzled. 2. The noise level is high during meal times due to staff members talking loudly and even shouting at residents from afar. 3. Resident activities are limited. It's common for staff members to leave residents in front of the TV, while they themselves engage with their cell phones. They lay on bingo and trivia games, but residents aren't encouraged to join, and trivia doesn't seem suitable for those with memory issues. 4. The emergency button in the bathrooms isn't responded to, and staff reportedly don't carry the necessary pager. 5. Employees don't wear name tags or uniforms. 6. Some caregivers don't respond when I greet them. We, as family members, often act as the voice of our loved ones. The staff's lack of friendliness and courtesy leaves me questioning the level of care given to our family members. I appreciate being able to voice my concerns. We need to constantly advocate for those unable to do so themselves.

"I Love It Here"
I'm settling in well. The people and staff are super friendly. The food is okay, but there are other options. It's very clean, and they clean my apartment every other week. They aim to make me happy. There are at least 10 activities every day and lots of entertainment rooms and a nice courtyard. We also go on dinner outings. I would recommend this community.

"Highly Impressed"
I really appreciated how it took the time to show me around and help me get a good sense of the place. The independent rooms were spacious and very comfortable. I was also impressed by the assisted living area it looked just as nice as the independent rooms. Even the memory care area was bright and welcoming. After checking out five other places nearby, I can honestly say there was nothing I didn’t like about this one.

"Helpful Facility with Generous Gestures"
I haven't moved my mother-in-law to Carmel Senior Living yet, but I've visited a few times. They let our home association use a meeting room, which is really nice of them. I can't remember the exact cost for an apartment, so I just estimated.

"Disappointing Service and Poor Memory Care Activities"
The activities for memory care are lacking. There's hardly any motivation given to the residents. There's also not enough staff compared to the residents. I'm really let down.

"Avoid! Broken Promises and Poor Conditions"
My mom stayed at this assisted living place for about one and a half years. Not long after she moved in, the manager quit their job. We weren't happy even before that happened, but we were told things would improve. They didn't. The meals they provided were a complete disaster. The employees taking care of food service were often overwhelmed, late, missing in action or just plain disrespectful. It was not unusual for staff who weren't even part of the food crew to step in and help in the kitchen because they were short staffed. This included nurses from the Memory Care unit who had to leave their patients and pitch in. They regularly ran out of essentials like coffee, eggs, and milk. They claimed there would always be snacks and salads in the bistro but it was mostly empty. I got so fed up that I stopped paying their monthly fees. It then took them FOUR MONTHS to finally reach out to me to ask why. When I said it was due to their poor response to my mom's issues and their failure to return my many calls, they did nothing. Eventually, we had to move my mom into a full-time care place, partly because of the stress caused by the poor conditions there. We decided to leave as soon as we found another place but only gave them one week's notice instead of the usual 30 days. They responded by charging me for three weeks of the next month even though they knew my mother had to leave for health reasons, and not because she was going to a competitor. I found this entirely unacceptable, especially in light of the constant problems we had faced. Their staff were happy to tell lies, but never followed through on their words. They had to frequently work in areas that were not part of their job description. During my mom's stay, they went through three different managers. This seems to be their pattern: They make promises, don't deliver, assure you things will get better, change the staff, and start the cycle again. I strongly urge you not to let a loved one live here.

We visited this place to find care for my mom. It was larger than we wanted, and it seemed too big for us. The meals looked good, though. If you want a bigger community, we would suggest this one. We liked seeing how well they took care of everything. Families should definitely tour this community.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Room for Improvement"
We stayed at this place for a short while. Overall, it was nice. The place looked neat and tidy, and everything seemed well taken care of. The people who worked there were nice and helped us when we needed it. However, the food could be better. It would be great if they had more healthy options for the residents. Also, there weren't many things to do. Despite these things, it's a decent place. They just need to make some small improvements.

"A Daughter’s Review"
My husband and I looked at different Independent/Assisted Living Facilities in the Carmel/Westfield area this Spring. We picked 3-4 places for my parents, who were moving from Arizona. We chose Carmel Senior Living because of its great location, nice décor, and friendly atmosphere. Debra Guzman was especially helpful, always listening and following up quickly. Sharon also gave us great information while we were searching. Thanks to Trammiel, a wonderful cook, my parents love the dining room. Thanks again, CSL!
