Meadow Brook Senior Living

""Inattentive staff, false promises, lack of training and orientation.""
The workers don't really take time to learn about the people living there and what they did before they got there. The folks living there are really social and make a great group. The workers don't know how to handle the daily problems that come with people who have memory loss. They didn't do anything they promised to learn about the things my family member likes and doesn't like. Nobody from any department showed us around or told us what to do when we first got there.

"Warning: Inadequate Memory Care Facility with Tragic Consequences"
My grandpa went to Meadow Brook's memory care. They said he was happy, but he passed away within six weeks. I think it's because they didn't have enough activities for people with memory problems, and they focused too much on making it like an apartment, which made him lonely. They also used medicine to control him, and he fell a lot because of it. My dad said the other people there seemed like they were barely awake. Before you pick a place for someone with memory problems, visit a few and ask lots of questions. My grandpa didn't have anyone to move him out in time.

"Meadow Brook is a Great Place for Dad"
My father lived with my husband and me for about 2 years when he needed more care than we could give. We checked out several care places in Fishers and were happy when Meadow Brook called with an opening. The place is beautiful. The staff and other residents are very friendly. The move was easy, and my father felt right at home from the first day. We feel very lucky to have Meadow Brook as part of our family.

"Short-staffed Assisted Living Falls Short on Overnight Care"
Meadow Brook was okay, but they said they don’t have enough staff. They couldn’t help with overnight care for my loved ones.

"Lovely place, but needed a bigger room"
The place is really nice. They only had a studio that we could afford, but we wanted something bigger for my loved one.

"Care and Communication Excelled; Overall Satisfaction After First Month"
I like this place for me. They take good care of my loved one. They answer all my questions. They had a review after 30 days to address any concerns I had. I was happy with how it turned out.

"Pleasant Environment, Unimpressive Staff Behavior"
When I visited this place, I soon recognized that it wasn't an appropriate choice for our needs. As I entered, I unintentionally heard one of the front desk employees venting about how she had to stay late for her 5:00 meeting. Ironically, I was that appointment. During our guided visit, she was obviously rushed and became annoyed with me, when I simply questioned a family, who already had a relative there, about their opinion of the facility. Though the location seemed nice enough, the staff behavior gave me a poor outlook.

"Unsatisfied with Care and Rising Costs"
They won't let us find separate caregivers for my dad. They insist it's their way or nothing. And every six months, rent's rising by $100.

"Mom Loves It Here"
My mom stayed here for a short time and then decided to move in for good. It’s a lovely place, and I feel good about her living here. The staff is friendly and caring, and she likes everyone. The community and her room are always clean when I visit. They have fun activities for the residents. The chef even helps with her special diet. I would definitely recommend this place to my family and friends.

"High Costs and Poor Care Plague Assisted Living Facility"
Our family member resided at this assisted living facility for close to two years. The expenses continued to escalate while the level of care deteriorated significantly. The staff allowed our loved one to become alarmingly dehydrated, which even led to a near comatose state. I had to summon paramedics since the receptionist appeared clueless. The head of the dementia group was unwilling to dial 911 due to excessive paperwork, which forced me to make the call. We were assured that the staff checks on residents throughout the day, an assertion that turned out to be untrue. They promised daily activities and hydration smoothies, with optional dementia group membership for those not yet ready for memory care but still in need of socialization. Unfortunately, this group was spearheaded by a disagreeably cold-hearted individual. The care staff would only interact with our loved one during the morning, at meals, and in the evening at bedtime. Additionally, there was a fee for each escort to activities. The cost of staying at this facility was subject to increase at any time with no notice unless we paid a one time fee for the 'all-inclusive' package. While the cleanliness of the facility was commendable, the overall approach seemed better suited for a retirement home more than an assisted living space. Exorbitant fees were associated with every little assistance rendered on top of the rent and healthcare cost. An ongoing turnover of caregivers left much to be desired. There was no doctor or registered nurse on the premises. Managing medications was left to a single nursing director who wasn't a registered nurse. This led to a major mix-up with our loved one's blood thinning medication, forcing us to withhold all medications from their control. Any potential residents should demand written guarantees of services to be provided and verify the number of staff trained in CPR and available to handle emergencies. Do thorough research, including checking state evaluations and consulting with Fishers Fire Department. During our time, only one aid was on duty at night to care for many residents.

"My Favorite!"
I liked the memory care unit here. Each apartment had little porches with chairs, so residents could sit outside and chat. The rest of the place was nice, and the staff members were friendly.

" 'Moving Parents Out: Unacceptable Care at Assisted Living Facility'"
At first, I thought this place would be good. Sadly, it's been over a year since my parents moved there and I must say, I am going to move them out. Despite being aware that both my parents have Alzheimer's, the staff allowed them to leave with a stranger without gathering any information. I was only informed about this incident when two hours had already passed and some unidentified man had taken my parents. I have legal guardianship of my father and power of attorney for my mother and yet, it took them two hours to inform me! Thankfully, I managed to find my parents safe with a relative. This relative hadn't visited the facility in over a year, didn't sign out my parents, and yet no one questioned him! What's worse is that even after expressing my outrage and giving clear instructions, this happened again the following day! Aside from this major issue, there were other problems too. Their room was frequently stinky and in a mess even though we paid for cleaning services three times a week. My parents were also not hygienically maintained despite our repeated requests and payment for shower assistance twice a week. To top it all off, the staff changes too often and the care is unpredictable. Apparently, this is why my parents were allowed to leave with a stranger according to them. How is that acceptable?

"Good Visit, Not Ideal for Mom"
My visit to this community went really well. It’s a pleasant-looking place, and everything seemed clean. However, it’s quite large, and I think it might be overwhelming for my mom. The staff was friendly, though. Overall, it’s a good community, but not the right fit for my mother.

"Staff Changes and Care Concerns at Assisted Living Facility"
The building and location are pretty good. We've had problems with bed sheets not being changed as promised, along with cleaning and laundry. I've also seen a lot of the caregiving workers come and go. They say they have one worker for every 8 people living here, but that's not always true, which worries me. When the staff is here, they do work hard. After my dad became a resident, I found out this place is privately owned, meaning it doesn't have to follow Medicare and Medicaid's rules.

"We Love Meadow Brook"
Our Dad was one of the first residents at Meadow Brook. The experience has been amazing. When Dad moved in, he was recovering from a near-death experience. The care he has received at Meadow Brook has been incredible. The nurses and attendants are wonderful. The Physical Therapy has been excellent. He enjoys spending time with the other residents. There are activities to keep him busy. The food has been outstanding. We are very, very happy with Meadow Brook.

"Very Nice Place, Not Ideal for Us"
We checked out Meadow Brook while considering care options for our loved one. The community looked fancy with lots of marble, but it didn’t feel like the right fit. The tour was impersonal, focusing on floor plans and pricing without explaining why it would be a good place to live.

"Great place for my dad, but some improvements needed"
Meadow Brook is a super friendly place. My dad is safe and loved here. The staff knows his name and always greets him. The front office and desk staff are awesome—supportive and friendly. The food is amazing with a great variety and way better quality than I expected from a retirement home. When they first opened, the dining room wasn't staffed well, but they've fixed that, and now the service is great. The monthly special dinners are really nice, and families are invited. The dinners are exceptional. The rooms are spacious and very nice. The public areas are well-decorated and kept clean. My only issue is with the wellness director. She doesn't return calls and isn't friendly. When there's a medical issue with my dad, I don't hear from the nurse or the wellness director. It takes many calls to get to the bottom of the issue. The facility isn't full, so the wellness director also acts as a nurse. In her defense, she's doing two jobs, but Meadow Brook needs to figure this out. Overall, it's a great place, and I'd move my dad in again.

"Beautiful facility, but not suitable for independent living seekers."
This place is really nice. The people who work here know a lot and are nice to talk to. The food they serve is really good too. But, they mostly help people who need a lot of assistance or who have memory problems. Even though it looks great and the cost is good, it’s not what we want for independent living.

"Great place, friendly staff!"
Overall, things have been great at Meadow Brook Senior Living! Everyone we've met has been super friendly and helpful. The place is beautiful, and they keep it really clean and nice. My only issue is that sometimes the care seems a bit unorganized, maybe because the place is still new.

"Beautiful place with caring staff!"
Beautiful but, more importantly, caring! My friend’s mom lives at Meadow Brook, and the change has been amazing! She smiles and talks to people. She has made friends! The staff is so friendly and caring. It might cost a bit more than other places, but it’s worth it for the peace of mind knowing your parent is in good hands. There are so many activities, and the food is good too.

"Dementia Care at Meadow Brook: Dishonored Promises & Disappointing Results"
Meadow Brook Assisted Living is a stunning place, resembling a resort to those well enough to enjoy it. But when they assured me repeatedly that they could manage all types of dementia including the undiagnosed kind my loved one had, their words fell short. Once within their care, they labeled him as violent simply because he would push people away. Meadow Brook's medical director's lack of knowledge in transferring mental health patients was frankly shocking. My loved one became frightened and pleaded to go home, all because the necessary protocol wasn't followed. His transportation to the hospital was done in the dangerous front seat of my car despite their claim of him being potentially harmful. Apparently, my safety didn't matter. Furthermore, they neglected to mention his destination hospital had a psychiatric entrance, causing a stressful and long walk for him as he begged me to take him home. His existing health conditions — heart and lung problems — were clearly overlooked in this situation. When we arrived, there wasn't even a guaranteed bed for him, forcing me to decide between taking him home or back to Meadow Brook. Since his medicines were at Meadow Brook, I chose to return there, where they insisted a family member must stay with him. Confusingly, they still claimed to see him as dangerous. Ultimately, they chose to transfer him via ambulance to another hospital with an available bed. This second institution was substandard at best, an environment I believe contributed to his accelerated decline and imminent death. Meadow Brook's advertised capability to manage dementia was not honored, and their handling of my loved one's transport was unsatisfactory.
