"Friendly Staff and Activities, Meals Need Improvement"

Everyone at the assisted living place is really nice and helpful. The only issue my loved one faces is with the meals. But they do a great job cleaning their room just the way they like it. The front desk staff is super friendly. They serve two meals a day: breakfast/brunch until 1:30, and dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 in the evening. Plus, there are lots of fun activities for the residents. And if they need to go to the doctor or do some shopping within 5 miles, there's transportation available.

"Loved One Adores Discovery Commons: Small, Convenient Community"

The assisted living facility Discovery Commons was immediately liked by our loved one for its small community feel and convenient location near their previous home.

"Assisted Living Community Needs Better Cleaning, Good Value Overall"

I think this place is alright for the money, but they should tidy up more. I’d suggest it to others from what I’ve seen.

"A Welcoming Place with Spacious Apartments and Scenic Views"

I really enjoyed this place. The apartments are spacious with great closets and extra storage options. Although it's not a licensed assisted living facility, it has a partnership with Great Lakes for skilled nursing care. They follow an aging-in-place philosophy. The dining room is bright and attractive, offering good food choices. The activities cater to a variety of interests. I appreciated the location, which boasts nice views and green spaces. There's even a walking path around a lake, and every apartment has a good-sized balcony or patio.

"Assisted Living with Spacious Apartments and Great Amenities"

I really liked this place. The apartments are big and have great closets. If you need extra storage, they have that too. Even though it's not a licensed assisted living facility, they team up with Great Lakes for skilled nursing care. They believe in aging in place, which is nice. The dining room is bright and attractive with good food choices. The activities they offer are things that Mom and Dad would enjoy. I also like where it's located—it has nice views and green spaces, plus there's a walking path around a lake. Every apartment has a good-sized balcony or patio.

"Manager too pushy at this independent living facility"

When I visited this home, the person in charge tried to really force me to fill out a form that day. It felt like I was buying a car, with all the pressure to sign. The place itself looked great and the rooms were really big. I showed it to my mom and it was more room than she needed. But, while I was there, I found out that it's not a place for folks who need help all the time, but it's for folks who can do most things themselves. They also have nurses you can hire. Another thing is if my mom fell, only the hired nurses could help her out. The stuff they had for people to do seemed like it was for folks who could get around easily. I signed a paper that day for a room, but lucky for me, the room wasn't available so I could cancel. I was just so nervous about them hustling me to sign. So, if you're checking out this place, make sure you really know what it's about. I wouldn't tell anyone who needs constant help to go here.

"Morningside's Memory Care: Poor Practices, Low Staffing, Unethical Billing"

We definitely wouldn't advise choosing Morningside's memory care facility due to our terrible experiences. Earlier this year, my dad stayed at Morningside for five days, and it cost more than $12,000. They demanded payment immediately when we moved him out. Then when we tried to leave, they forced us to stay in the room for a tour. What's worse is that in just five days, my dad's health got worse. He lost weight because he didn't eat or take some of his medicine. The staff don't keep track of whether residents eat or take their meds. If residents don't show up for meals, they don't get escorted there. Dad was even allowed to just say he didn't want to take his medicine. There were no strategies to encourage him to eat or take medicine. In fact, the records seemed very incomplete. We were worried because it seemed like they didn't have enough staff. We were always trying to find someone to talk to and usually waiting a long time to get info. The front desk was often empty during visiting hours in the evening. We couldn't leave because there was no one to let us out, and the wait times were very long. One time, we had to call Morningside just to ask to leave. Later on, we found a charge to Medicare and our insurance for a doctor's visit at Morningside three months after my dad moved out. We reported this to Medicare and our insurance. We even got a lawyer because Morningside wouldn't think about refunding any of the charges. We suggest having a lawyer look over the contract to make sure you're getting what you think you are and to ensure your family's protection. Lastly, we suggest looking at Indiana's inspections of Morningside from 2016 at: [removed].

"Dissatisfied with Lack of Care and Transparency at Morningside"

We wouldn't endorse Morningside's memory care. We have to tell you about the not-so-great time our dad had there. My father hung out there for five days this past January. It put us out of pocket for over $12,000. Some of this we had to pay ASAP when my dad was moving out. Just as we were trying to leave, the Morningside employees told us to hold up in the room while they were showing around a possible new resident. What's worse? In those short five days, my dad's health got bad. He dropped some pounds and missed doses of his medicine. The workers there don't keep track if residents eat enough or if they've had their meal at all. If you don't make it to lunch, they don't seem to care. My dad could just say "I don't want my pill" and then there's no push from the folks there to make sure he gets it. We didn't know about any rules or ways for the staff to encourage the residents to eat or take their medicine. All of their paperwork was really lacking. There seemed to us to not be enough workers. We usually had to wait a long time to talk to anyone. We visited dad in the evening a lot and lots of times there wasn't a person at the front desk. It was so hard to leave because there was never anyone to open the door for us. One time we had to call Morningside to ask them to let us out! Months later, we saw a Medicare charge for a doctor's visit for my dad at Morningside — but it was dated three months after he was already gone. We reported it to Medicare and our insurance. We even got a lawyer when Morningside wouldn't give back any of our money. Definitely get a lawyer to take a look at the contract that they give you.

"Friendly staff, clean place, food variety issue, no activity interest"

My dad is doing okay since moving here a bit over a month ago. He doesn't like the food because there's not much variety. The staff is friendly and kind. They keep the place clean and well-maintained. They offer activities, but Dad isn't joining any of them.

"Things Are Going Okay"

My dad’s been here for a little over a month. The food isn’t great—limited variety. Staff is friendly, though. Community is clean and well-maintained. Dad’s not joining activities.

"Warm and Informative"

The staff took us on a great tour of the community. They were super friendly and knew a lot. However, the place wasn't as bright as we hoped, and it didn't feel as cozy for our parents.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Community"

I took a pleasant tour of this community. Most things went well. The community looked nice and clean, and the staff was friendly. However, the room they showed me had an awkward arrangement, making it challenging for my mother to move around with her walker. Overall, it was a positive experience, but not the right fit.

"Clean and Nice Tour, but Room Layout Not Suitable"

I visited this place and had a good look around. Most things were fine. The place seemed neat and tidy, and the people working there were friendly and helpful. They answered our questions. However, the room they showed me was set up in a strange way, and I didn't think my mom could move around easily with her walker. It was a good visit, but it didn't seem like the right place for my mom.

"Unaffordable Living Community Due to High Prices"

Our visit to this place wasn't great. They told us that our mom didn't have enough money to live there. When we asked to see an apartment, they said it wasn't worth it because of her financial situation.

"Clean and friendly assisted living, but not our preference."

I checked out Morning Side of College Park too. It seemed like a nice spot. Everything was neat and tidy, and the person showing us around knew a lot and was nice. We got all the details we wanted. It's a good place, just not exactly what we wanted.

"Pleasant Stay at Assisted Living Facility"

My mom stayed here briefly, and she liked it. The food was good, and she felt stronger after physical therapy. The common area was nice, with a fireplace. Overall, it's a nice place.

"Extremely Dissatisfied with Assisted Living Facility"

I'm really displeased with this assisted living community. My mother experiences yelled at by the helpers here. They don't take good care of her as well. She wears glasses, but every time I visit, they're never there. I brought it up once, only to be told by the staff that they didn't know she needed glasses. Every visit, I find the bathroom without toilet paper. The food quality is poor - it's bland and the mashed potatoes have lumps. We only chose this place because my brother recommended it since his buddy gave a reference.

"Headline: "Unhygienic Conditions and Negligence Plague Assisted Living Facility""

Please don't send your loved ones to this assisted living home. My family member has been in their dementia care area for about half a year. We've had to practically beg for basic housekeeping, like liners for trash cans holding the used adult diapers, or replacement toilet paper rolls. His room hasn't been swept for three weeks, despite requests, with pretzel crumbs and dust under the bed. His bathroom's gone for weeks without cleaning. Residents' rooms are locked when they go to breakfast. They need to remember to ask to be let back in. Once inside, they're locked in, and I'm not sure what would happen in an emergency if people can't easily get in. His wheelchair, which we had specially marked with his name, vanished, and the staff hasn't been of any help in replacing it despite our repeated communication with the manager. They don't have extra wheelchairs with footrests readily available, making outings challenging. And we just get shrugged off when we ask about this. We had to wait over three weeks to get lab results. Last week, a nurse told me their staff was low, with a ratio of 27 patients to just 2 nursing assistants during the day shift. The room and bathroom have an awful urine smell from clothes left for days without washing. While we haven't seen any direct abuse, this neglect is taking its toll on our loved one and our family.

"Take a Tour!"

Morning Side of College Park is a great place. We liked the many things they offer, like activities for residents. The staff knew a lot and answered all my questions. The community is clean and well-maintained.

"Advocate for Your Loved One in Memory Care"

My dad's been at this memory care place for a month. We like it. He's happy and busy with activities. At first, we had a tough time understanding how they take care of him. Sometimes, he seemed unkempt and his room was messy. He even fell once, but thankfully wasn't seriously hurt. We talked to the people in charge and they listened without getting defensive. Last time we visited, he looked much better, all cleaned up and participating happily. It's super important to visit often and speak up, especially if your loved one has dementia.

"Porch and Kitchen in Every Room"

Mom really likes the location, and she's happy that every room has a porch. She also loves having a kitchen to cook her own food, and she might even get a bird feeder.

"Decent Memory Care Rooms; Questionable Space and Occupancy"

The memory care rooms here are pretty good. But I'm wondering why it's not full? Only half the spots have been filled up. The place itself is pretty nice but, the area for hanging out and doing activities seems really cramped and small. The cost isn't too bad and is similar to that of Hearth.

"Mom Settling In Well at Memory Care Facility"

After about a week, Mom is settling in nicely. The staff in the memory care area are attentive and keep us informed. They genuinely care about the residents, and the food is excellent.

"Mixed Feelings: Assisted Living Experience with Some Reservations"

This place was pretty good, but there are a few things you should know. The memory care part is really nice, but it's still pretty empty because it just opened. They don't have a license for assisted care, which might be okay, but it's something to think about. The place looks a little old-fashioned, but the staff is great. The manager even called me after my visit to chat. She used to know my dad from when she worked in banking. She also mentioned there's a big focus on art there, and they have a famous artist's work on display.

"Dad enjoyed his time here!"

My dad lived here for a few years until his care needs got too advanced. We wished he could stay, but they couldn't handle his memory care issues. The place looks nice and has a great atmosphere. The residents are friendly, and it's a very diverse community. The care could be better, though. They always seemed short on nursing staff and had a high turnover rate for aides.

"No Memory Care Offered, But Potential for Assistance. Affordable Rates."

They don't offer memory care, but it might be possible with extra help they give. Also, prices are quite fair.

"Not Ideal for Independent Living"

It’s not the best for living independently, but it could work for assisted living if you have a relative moving to Indianapolis.
