"Reasonable cost and caring staff."
The place is great. Lots of nearby stores and restaurants. The staff is helpful and communicates well with families. We chose it because of the reasonable cost and flexible staff.

Virginia Place worked well for us. Everyone was kind and helpful. I liked that our relative could keep his dog.

"Friendly Staff, Room for Improvement"
They’re friendly, but communication about care services could be better. Average value for money. I’d recommend to other families, but they need to be more proactive.

"Better staff, clean facility, but high costs and few activities"
The staff has changed recently and seem better, which is great. I wish there were more Spanish-speaking staff. There are a few, but more would help. The facility is clean. We do a lot of our own cleaning, so they don't seem to be in my aunt's room as often. They did do a deep clean recently when we asked, which was nice. The room setup is good for the price. The cost and care level seem high right now, mostly due to medication and pharmacy expenses. I’m still figuring out the process and how costs change, so I’m not sure if this is a common issue. Activities are good; they aren't numerous but are regular, and they encourage residents to join in. They also celebrate holidays. The facility is small, easy to navigate, and all on one level, which was a key reason we chose Virginia Place. Overall, if you can handle the cost and care levels, I feel good about recommending this place.

"Good Community, Some Communication Issues"
They are having a bit of trouble with temp-workers in their nursing staff. I guess that's normal for other places too, but it's still a problem. A big downside is the lack of continuity. I talk to the head nurse and she says she'll tell her nursing staff, but they don't pass the message down well. I think it's just how things are nowadays because it would probably be the same anywhere else. The room sizes are smaller than any other place we've been, but the cost is about the same. I liked that the community has a one-story layout, but that usually means smaller rooms. What I appreciate is that I walked in without an appointment on purpose. I wanted to see how the staff would react if I just showed up. I wanted to see the people and residents as they really are, not prepared for a visit. I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the environment, the cleanliness, the layout, and the homey feel of the community. I watched the team interact with each other, saying things like, "I'll take this one on." They were all willing to help. They were very good at following up, and they called me the next morning. I saw very active people who were engaged in the garden in the center of the facility. When I told them my concern, they said, "Let us decide that." The next day they offered to assess her and drove out to where she was in rehab to do so. They were very proactive and encouraged me. They assured me that she was perfect for their facility. We talked about what would happen if she runs out of money since they don't accept Medicare. They said, "Honestly, if it was our mother, there is another facility." Many facilities were far from my sister, and it would be a burden for her to visit, but this one is right near my sister so she can visit and handle any problems if needed. They gave us alternatives for later and what they would do if it was their mother. They gave information like they really cared. We placed her here, and things have calmed down. Everyone seems relatively happy. We are fortunate that this place was a good fit.

"Mixed Staff Performance in Assisted Living Facility"
I recommend considering other places. While some staff members are excellent, others may need additional training. The administrative staff is good, but they seem unaware of community happenings. When they do learn about issues, they address them.

"Exhaustion and Neglect Prevail in Disappointing Assisted Living Facility"
On Christmas Day, our check-in day at this assisted living facility, we briefly felt hopeful. It was the one positive moment our family and dear one experienced there. Beyond that, we faced nothing but neglect and suffering. Our loved one was constantly in severe pain. Their ankles swelled to the point where walking was impossible. Despite promises that they could adequately look after our loved one's health, they fell short massively. The director was dismissed for sharing her honest views about the lack of safety in the facilities. The nursing leader and the house manager exhibited zero accountability or control over medications. The whereabouts of potent drugs like narcotics were always a mystery. The then-executive director was a pleasant and capable person, but she was powerless against the overpowering influence of the director.

"Needs Better Management and Maintenance"
This assisted living place should get some top-notch leaders to take charge. They keep losing their big bosses, and it’s causing problems for everyone. They’re always getting new ones. The big shots at the top really need to step up their game. The new cook is pretty good, but that keeps changing too. The folks who look after us every day really seem to care and pay attention to us living here. But they’ve gotta do better with keeping the place clean, taking out the trash, and stuff like that. Honestly, we’re not too pleased with how things are going at Virginia Place.
