"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Facility"

Most of the people working at the front desk and in the office are really nice. They seem to really care about the folks living there and the whole place. The cleaning is alright, but the shiny new look of the place might trick you. Talking with the family was great at first, but it’s not so good anymore, maybe because they need more staff. Getting moved in wasn’t too hard, they helped out. The food on the first floor is pretty tasty, but my mom got moved to the Memory Care unit up top not long after she got there. The meals they serve up there just don’t seem as yummy. Right now, I’m on the fence about telling others to move in here.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"

We gave the cleanliness a 4-star rating, but there's construction. Activities got 3 stars; non-English speakers struggle. The community feel is great. Staff are caring and kind; they try hard for my grandma.

"Good care but expensive wish money went to aides instead."

My mom was safe and had everything she needed. No one will care for your loved one exactly how you would, but the care was good. These places are really expensive. I wouldn't mind the cost if the money went to the aides who do the hard work, not just the big bosses.

"Mixed Feelings on Assisted Living Facility"

Here’s the review rewritten in 8th grade level American English: The place has two elevators, but one was out of order for a long time. It looks like they have a hard time keeping their workers. The meals aren’t good, and there’s nothing like cookies or fruit available for folks to just pick up during the day. They have a menu that’s supposed to be available all day, but asking for something from it seems to bother the staff. The activities they offer aren’t very exciting. I visit once a week to cook a nice meal for my mom and a couple of her friends. Usually, I have to find someone to unlock the kitchen cabinets. I bring my own cooking stuff and sometimes even napkins because they don’t have any. Also, I’ve had to empty the dishwasher when it’s not been run. Twice, I’ve seen residents go missing. One time at the front desk, the staff just talked about it instead of looking outside. The missing person had gone to Starbucks for better coffee. The front desk is often empty. When you need help, it can take a really long time for someone to show up. And there’s no quick way to let them know if it’s a super urgent problem or just something small. The system to call for help has broken down a couple of times in less than a year. There’s hardly any parking for visitors. They have a “happy hour” way too early at 2:30 PM. There’s a new bistro area, but I’ve never seen anyone use it. Most of the staff are super nice, but you can tell some of them are really tired and don’t seem happy with their job. They keep welcoming new residents even though it seems like they don’t have enough people to take care of everyone.

"Overpriced Assisted Living Facility Neglects Resident Needs for Profit"

The Falls' assisted living facility is terribly run. They only care about making money and will cut corners wherever they can. They've spent plenty on fancy renovations, but they don't tell you that the air conditioning and heating system doesn't work, or that the social space is always closed. They've hired and fired lots of chefs in the last year, and the extra money for activities only gets you someone switching on the TV or a quickly thought up word game. The gym instructor had to teach bridge, a card game they'd never played, and also do Easter decorating. The shared family dining room is always dirty when we use it, with unwashed dishes and no clean pots, pans or supplies. We always end up running downstairs for cutlery, glasses and napkins. They do have mailboxes, but they've been set up all wrong and haven't been fixed in over a year. So, mail and packages are often left in the dining room for people to find. The food is awful, made with bad quality ingredients that aren't fresh. The meal selection is small and never alters. Plus, they often don't have the simplest things. There's nowhere for residents to get a drink or snack during the day. They never have enough employees but keep admitting new residents anyway. My mom was told they couldn't get my dad ready in the morning because they were too busy with new people. On one occasion, my dad went for a haircut and they misplaced him for three whole hours. This was scary for my mom. We've had to help residents back to their rooms when visiting and we've seen residents wander off. Due to constant understaffing, the front desk is often left without an employee as they're needed elsewhere. Each resident has a help button to press. However, the entire system has failed twice or three times. Once, my dad needed help and my mom pressed the help button and pulled the emergency cord. No one came, even after 40 minutes. We found out later that the emergency system was broken. With only two elevators for all four floors, one broke and wasn't fixed for over six weeks. That left just one elevator for everyone to share. I could keep talking about how bad 'The Falls' is, but the message is clear - don't let your loved ones live here. They assume the residents won't complain and cannot recognize the shortcomings. Despite the high cost, the living conditions are comparable to low-income housing. My mom pays as much as she would for a 2.5 million dollar house mortgage. She's not getting her money's worth at all. That being said, the staff are amazing. They do their best despite being understaffed, unsupported by management and scared of losing their jobs. They don't feel safe talking about safety issues for fear of job loss. I've heard that the low wages could be causing the staffing shortage. I hope it's not true, given how much the residents are paying to live here. I've told staff I would recommend them if they can find better jobs.

"Disappointing Care, Poor Food, and Security Concerns"

The tour might fool you. The meals are not good, and they think watching a concert on TV counts as an activity. There aren’t any snacks available to pick up during the day like at other places. If you want something from the all-day menu, be ready to wait a really long time and the workers seem annoyed if you ask for food. Even with a thermostat in your room, you can’t adjust the heating or cooling. They’re always losing their workers. I’ve been there a couple of times, and on two occasions, someone living there has wandered off. It’s not too surprising since the main entrance isn’t locked and there’s often nobody at the front desk.

"Cordingly Dam’s Memory Care Shines Bright!"

This place was really nice, with a beautiful outdoor area. I liked that there’s a private path to a nearby Starbucks. The rooms were pretty small, though—they have kitchenettes instead of full kitchens. But the memory care unit here is way better than at Maplewood. Cordingly Dam’s memory unit is on the top floor, with a sunny garden/patio. It feels really positive. At Maplewood, the memory care is in the basement and feels dark and crowded.

"Mixed Experience with Assisted Living Facility, Great Staff and Food"

We initially struggled with a complex medication schedule, hence the 4-star rating. The regular staff is excellent, earning four or five stars. However, new hires lack the same dedication as longtime employees. The new dining room offers a varied menu, though portions are often too generous. The waitstaff remembers each resident's preferences, ensuring their drinks are ready at mealtime. Activities are diverse and run daily, catering to various interests. While the value is high, the cost is steep, warranting 4 stars. Nonetheless, they provide excellent care for my spouse.

"Clean, helpful staff, and great activities food also praised"

The community was always clean, and the staff was very helpful. No matter what their role, they went out of their way to assist us. If they couldn’t help directly, they made sure to connect us with someone who could. My mom had private aides as well as the community’s aides, and there were some issues with coordinating her care at first. It took a bit of time to sort out these challenges. The activities staff was amazing and did a great job encouraging my mom to join in, which made her life better. She also really liked the food, and we enjoyed it too when we dined with her.

I had a great tour of this place. The person who showed me around was friendly and helpful. She answered my questions and told me a lot of useful things. The community itself looked really good. Everything was neat and tidy. The staff were all friendly and made me feel welcome. I really enjoyed visiting this community, and the tour was excellent.

"Affordable alternatives available. Consider touring evenings/weekends for comparison."

This place has everything, but it's pricey. You can find cheaper places nearby where your family members will still be safe and looked after. I suggest checking them out on evenings or weekends.
