"Beautiful place, care needs improvement"

The main areas of the community are beautiful with big open spaces, lots of windows, a movie theater, pool table, a little lounge area with an outdoor balcony, and a lovely garden. It also costs less than other places in the area. However, the care could be better at times.

"Assisted Living Facility Offers Clean Environment, Varied Activities, and Friendly Staff"

This place is super clean, and the staff are really friendly and organized. They offer lots of activities for residents. The director told us they adjust activities based on residents' abilities, so there's a good variety. We'd recommend it to other families, though the recent price hikes surprised us.

"Good until incident, lacking follow-up care"

Everything was fine until the end. After my mom fell, no one followed up or seemed to care afterward.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"

The staff here have all been really nice. They made us feel welcome and comfy. Sometimes things take a little longer than I'd prefer. Overall, I'd recommend it to others looking. The activities they've offered us have been really good. They check in on residents every hour, which is great and makes us feel calm.

"Gloomy Assisted Living Experience"

The hallways were all messy, and the carpet looked dirty. The people there seemed really weak, and the dining room felt dark.

"Mixed Experience with Assisted Living Facility; Recommend with Reservations"

The person who helped us schedule our visit, the staff was very flexible and made sure we felt comfortable. However, once you're a member, there's less attention from the office, and more interaction with nursing and direct care staff. They're currently looking for a new program director for the care unit, so I'm unsure about the future. But when we call with questions, we do get clear answers. We visit often but it took a few months to make a care plan. With proper staff training, interactions could improve. More training on memory issues would help, but I understand it's tough in today's staffing climate. Better initial coaching could have eased my loved one's transition. Some staff show real compassion, while others need to learn. I don't know much about the food, but it seems decent. They offer limited beverage options, mainly apple or cranberry juice; we've had to ask for water. I wish there were more activities. Despite these concerns, I appreciate that my loved one is safe and well cared for. The facility is clean and smells okay. They address our concerns, which is important. Overall, I would recommend them with some reservations.

"More care than needed; environment didn't suit loved one's preferences."

My loved one didn't enjoy this place. He thought they gave him more help than he wanted. I think the setting and extra care made him not want to stay because he didn't think he needed it all.

"Flexible and Comfortable Respite Care"

They really helped us out, and I would suggest them for respite care, especially because they were flexible. Instead of needing to stay for 3-4 weeks, they are willing to work with you for just a week or two if that's what you need. Everywhere else required longer stays. The staff were excellent, and I felt at ease when talking with them. I was happy with the facility. It was clean, and visually it was very attractive and pleasant.

"Comfortable Assisted Living with Varied Activities and Dining Options"

The community is nice. Everything is fine. It was our first time learning about the cost of care and what's included. They have a nice dining area. Activities like arts and crafts, gardening, morning exercise, walking group, and more are available for residents.

"Not So Friendly: Assisted Living Disappoints"

Even though the place looks nice, the people who run it and work there aren't friendly. They don't seem to care about the residents. Except for the wait staff in the dining room, I'm really unhappy with the front desk and administrative staff. My grandma should be treated kindly. She pays extra for her room to be cleaned, but it's never actually clean. The sink has been clogged for months, the bathroom is gross, and there's dust on her coffee table.

"Nice place, top-notch and clean"

I took a tour here when looking for a place for my mom, and it was very nice. It was one of the places I would have chosen for her, but the location wasn't what we wanted. The facility looked very nice, was kept clean, and was top-notch. The price was about the same as other communities. They told me about activities like bingo, cards, movie nights, happy hours, and more. Overall, it seemed like a nice place.

My mom is doing well here. It’s a nice place with friendly people. I feel confident she’s in good hands. They’ve been great for our family, and I’d recommend this community.

"Considerate Staff but Dirty Room and Scammy Fees at Brookdale"

My mom lived in the memory care area of the Reserve at Brookdale from August to October 2017. Some of the staff were kind, but her room wasn't always clean. They'll make you pay at least 7 days worth of fees after a resident passes away. That's a total scam, just trying to wring more money out of you. Make sure to read your contract carefully.

"Helpful staff answered all our questions!"

The staff was very helpful and answered all our questions.

"No Action at This Assisted Living Facility"

I got a chance to look around this place and I didn't like what I saw. At 3 pm, everyone was in their rooms and I noticed no staff doing any work. They tried to convince me they had loads of activities on offer, but there were no assistants outside or doing anything. That's why we ended up not picking this community.

"Great community! Impressed with the tour!"

I was really impressed with my tour of this place. It’s a lovely community and one of my top choices. The staff was very kind and helpful. The place looked great, and everything was clean. It was a great experience. I’m thinking about moving my father here.

"Room for Improvement"

My dad's time here has been alright. The bosses can be a little rude sometimes, and they gotta get better at handling medicines. But besides that, the place looks nice. The people who take care of everyone are great. They have fun stuff to do and yummy food. They just gotta work on being nicer bosses and handling meds better.

"A Work In Progress, But A Nice Community Overall"

My dad's doing okay here at this place. He came back after rehab, and things are going fine. It's a nice, clean spot, and everything's well taken care of. The staff is mostly helpful and kind. I feel like he's in a safe community. With a bit more time, he'll probably get even more comfortable. Overall, it's a work in progress, but I'd recommend this community.

"A Wonderful Place for Mom: Great Food, Clean Community, Recommended!"

This place is great! The food is tasty, and if my mom doesn't like what she gets, they'll make her something else. The outside area is always neat, and they keep everything clean. I think this place is awesome and I'd tell others to check it out. Mom loves playing bingo and card games here, too!

"“Seeking To Prevent Future Heartache”"

My sisters and I helped our Mom move into the Assisted Living Department of Brookdale (used to be Emeritus) in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, before she was diagnosed with dementia. After just five months, the Head of the facility told us our Mom had wandered off without anyone with her and that we must move her to the Memory Care Unit right away. With hardly any help or communication from the Brookdale staff, we warily moved our Mom into this new part. That's when our real troubles with Brookdale started. The Assisted Living Department might be okay for the elderly who need very little help, but the Memory Care Unit is terribly understaffed for people suffering from dementia. In our first two meetings with the Director and Top Nurse of Brookdale, they PROMISED that our Mom could stay there for life unless she needed hospital treatment. They stressed that they knew all about the final stages of dementia and could certainly take care of her there. We thought the presence of medical staff meant that they could handle any health problems Mom might have. Not at all! The care Mom got there was very poor. We kept getting phone calls from the nurses who wrongly thought Mom's confusion was because she had a urinary tract infection. Doctors checked Mom but found no signs of it. Mom's bed was hardly ever changed; her clean clothes were just tossed into her room, sometimes mixed up with others' clothes; she was often left in bed all day with hardly anyone watching her; and we would often find her crying and mixed up over tiny things that the staff could easily fix. We felt like the higher-ups there cared more about making money than looking after the people living there. While the Memory Care Department might be fine for elderly people with mild dementia at the beginning, I would not suggest it for those in the middle or end stages of dementia.

"Excellent care and happiness at Brookdale East Longmeadow!"

We were worried about how our mother would adjust to a new place because of her severe Alzheimer's dementia. But we are very happy with how content she seems and how well she’s being cared for. We would definitely recommend Brookdale East Longmeadow to anyone looking for a place for their loved ones.

"A Fresh Year-Old Facility"

The food gets a five-star rating. The facility is only a year old. However, there seem to be unresolved issues stemming from the top down. Communication doesn't always filter down to the staff responsible for the work. Unfortunately, there's no one I can talk to who will pass the message on to the right person.

"Great for advanced memory loss, beautiful with excellent food."

I think this assisted living is great, especially if you have significant memory loss. It’s a beautiful place, the food is excellent, and the services are good. However, if you don’t need full memory care and are in between stages, this might not be the best fit.

"Staff should improve their follow-through for residents' needs."

The only thing that needs to get better at Emeritus at East Longmeadow is that the staff should follow through more. The residents have different needs, and they just need to improve in that area. That’s my only complaint. Other than that, things are good.

"A Great Experience"

It was a great experience. They really personalized my mom's care. Our family got excellent service while placing her and addressing her specific physical and emotional needs. The staff feels like extended family, and they truly care about my mom’s well-being.

"Emeritus has been excellent and exceeded our expectations."

Emeritus has been excellent. I was very impressed from the start. The building is really nice. We liked the location and the price. Everything has worked out great. I’d give them a high rating.

"Unacceptable Care at Memory Unit Leads to Disappointing Regret"

Our family members used to be in the memory care section of this facility. However, we moved him once we saw the way he was treated. It's like they poured all their funds into hiring top-tier employees and buying fancy stuff, but the actual care in the memory care unit is atrocious. Phil even tried to tell us they meet industry standards, but that's a cover since they fall under assisted living standards. Having one unskilled aide for ten dementia patients just doesn't cut it. A few aides tried. Others were lazy and didn't seem to care. Using just 2 staff to handle laundry, meal serving, and patient assistance is ridiculous. The group who designed this place must not know the first thing about dementia or Alzheimer's. The entire building is a huge circle and screaming wouldn't even get you heard from one side to another. Several people, who had the means, have already relocated their family members. One more thing: all the activities they promised at the start stopped after about two months. The last time I visited, I observed a significant decline in the residents' alertness and involvement. There were NO ACTIVITIES, apenas sitting. Be cautious.

"Great place to check out!"

They do a great job at Emeritus at East Longmeadow! It really is a wonderful place! The facility is beautiful, well-kept, and clean. The staff are all very friendly, and they do a great job caring for the residents. They offer a good mix of activities and social events too. It wasn't the right fit for our loved one, who needed more care than they provide, but it's definitely worth checking out for anyone looking for care in the area!

"Appealing Facility Delivers Mediocre Care and False Promises"

This assisted living facility may resemble a fancy, high-end hotel at first glance, but in reality, it provides service that's more on par with a low-grade motel. The setting appears nice, adequate enough if you just need a roof over your head or a meal, but if you're seeking skilled nursing care, look elsewhere. The staff spread themselves too thin, scrambling between laundry duty, meal service, and resident care with only two people on hand. They failed to recognize my loved one's urgent need for hospitalization. They only allowed her to return once she could bear her own weight and transfer herself, which was a challenge. Even then, we had to arrange for our own Certified Nursing Assistant. Despite marketing themselves with the promise of treating people like family, this isn't a family environment I'd ever want to be a part of. There was an instance where my loved one had to use the restroom but was told to wait since she had been only two hours ago. She'd never faced such demeaning treatment before. The night staff was particularly incompetent, unable to properly assist with transfers. Despite the facility's high-quality appearance, it's actually a façade. In my opinion, most of the employees here aren't even qualified to do their jobs. Furthermore, we were expected to provide toiletries and gloves, along with covering the costs of other "extras" despite their claim that everything would be included within the monthly fee. The executive director, Phil, stated that their staffing levels were based on demand rather than industry standards. When I suggested they needed more staff, he objected, claiming they were meeting industry norms. Under new management, nothing seems to have changed. Rumor has it that many of the employees are even looking for other job opportunities.

"Wonderful Care in Emeritus EL Memory Unit"

I can't say enough good things about the staff at Emeritus EL. The place is beautiful and well-kept. The staff in the memory unit who take care of my mom are amazing. They really care about her. They are kind, sweet, and caring. We always feel welcome when we visit. Nurse Rhonda is always there to answer questions. She is very caring. One night, my mom fell and had to go to the ER. Rhonda stayed late to be there for my mom when she came back. Very special.

"Amazing staff and clean facility!"

This facility is brand new, and the staff is amazing. I found the place to be very clean, which was important to me since I checked out many places. My loved one is in the memory care unit, but I hope he can move to the regular community, which is just through a double door.

"They are awesome"

They are awesome. They have been great. If anything happens, they call me, and they call me back quickly if I call. The staff is super nice. The food is amazing. The chef is really good, like a five-star restaurant. There’s really nothing that needs to be better.
