"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living"
The place is nice, the caregivers are kind, the office staff is quick, and the health team is skilled. The only issue is the wellness office and meds.

"Mixed Experience in Assisted Living Facility"
The place was really clean. The staff and residents were nice to my mom. In the first few nights, they didn't give her evening medicine right. Sometimes, they gave her morning medicine at different times, like 2 to 3 hours apart. The food was good and they had lots of activities, but they could have tried harder to get my mom to join in. The building was nice, but for how much it costs each month, I had to keep checking with the staff to make sure they were doing things on time, like giving her medicine or helping her with physical therapy or fixing her shower.

"Safe, friendly assisted living with good communication."
Overall, the place is nice. The staff is friendly and keeps everyone busy. The rooms could use some updates, but it feels secure. Communication with our family has been good. I'd recommend Brighton Gardens of Columbia.

"Good Value and Friendly Staff at Brighton Gardens"
If your loved one is very particular about everything, I suggest getting extra one-on-one care, no matter which facility you choose. I was pleased with Brighton Gardens during the brief time my loved one stayed there. The staff was very friendly, and I was satisfied with their service. It's not the priciest place, but it's not the cheapest either. Overall, I think it offered good value.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs Improvement on Weekend Service"
This place isn't what I thought. They need to come faster when I need help. The workers are nice, but on weekends, they bring in substitutes who don't know what to do. The food's good though, especially the desserts.

"BG Columbia's Care For Seniors - Unforgivably Inadequate"
I rarely voice my thoughts in settings like this, but I just can't help expressing my extreme disappointment with BG Columbia's care for my mom or dad. I notice many people have shared their thoughts here, but from what I've seen, they hardly ever visit their seniors, at least not in daylight. Possibly they visit only after sundown. If so, I highly advise them to consider daytime visits to understand the real routine here. Though there are a handful of genuinely caring people here, most are indifferent. This is particularly true for the managers—all of them. I sense no initiative in them to create a homely atmosphere for their residents. It's a sad sight. My parent has suffered unnoticed bruises, and I have had to nag for showers and hair washes, let alone basic toilet assistance. Don't bank on them to cater to your family member's needs. The mantra at BG Columbia is strictly business. I remember someone commenting that most people move their parents into such facilities just as a temporary solution. Sad to say, this seems to be the hard truth for many, but my parent deserves far better.

"A Different Opinion!"
Our family member has been at BG for over 5 years, and we’ve seen their staff handle his deteriorating condition and increased care needs. Our experience with Reminiscence, their director, and staff has been extremely positive.

"Brighton Gardens' Dismal Performance in Assisted Living Care"
Brighton Garden might pass the test barely as decent, but when it comes to dementia care, they fall flat. Watch out if your family member ends up in their "memory care" or Reminiscence unit. Surrounded by locked doors, these residents seem ignored. Their company website grandly claims a "person-focused dementia care approach" and boasts about their research-based, unique multi-sensory experiences. But the truth at Brighton Gardens of Columbia is far from this glorification. Their activity director's choices are not research-based at all. In fact, it's like stepping back in time. Bingo, random entertainment, shopping trips and such - unimaginative and lacking effort. Turn to the Reminiscence unit, and you find activities unsuited for the dementia patients: clipping coupons, religious songs for Jewish members, and bingo that only a few can join. I've seen several activities staff quit, complaining their concerns were ignored. Despite their requests for better materials, the Activities Director does nothing. So-called brain games are on the schedule, but without necessary training or materials, they remain a mere tick-mark. The service is totally superficial and does nothing beyond providing construction paper and colored pencils. I voiced my concerns but got nowhere. As a health care professional, I find their dementia-care strategies outdated. It was distressing to see residents idle, sleeping on couches or in wheelchairs. Management visited during such incidents, but nothing was sorted. Their life quality seemed of no concern. the premises were dull with worn-out carpets and furniture. They claimed they didn’t own the building hence can't alter anything. My plea for engaging materials was brushed off due to "budget constraints". They charge residents 7-8K per month yet can't afford this? They severely overwork their direct care staff, who, besides patient care, have to do all housekeeping and catering jobs, while their charges wait for necessary personal care. Management accepted that they needed dining room staff, but nothing changed after several months. Apparently, this was also too costly. Surprisingly, they have no qualms about increasing prices or cutting from the salon’s earnings and passing it on to families. Think twice if you expect Brighton Gardens to meet your needs. Their actions contradict their confident assurances made during contract signing. When I voiced my discontent, they retorted, "If you're not happy, why do you stay?" I thought they’d fix things, but it seems that they were only fooling me.

"Great Customer Service!"
First, I want to mention that the customer service during our tour was fantastic. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome at their facility. We ultimately chose this place for my mother, and things have been going well for her since she moved in. The staff has been wonderful, and I feel comfortable with the care she receives. My mother has no complaints about the meals and enjoys the dining experience. Overall, it's been a great fit, and I'd recommend it to anyone interested.

"Improving Assisted Living Facility Earns Four Stars"
The place wasn't great at first, but it's getting better. We'd rate it around four out of five now. We weren't happy with some things they didn't tell us and how they staffed for new patients. We lost clothes and items right from the start. They need better policies, especially for emergency transportation. At first, we would've rated them close to zero. But they've been working with me to fix my concerns. I'm not sure if they lived up to our expectations. The people there are nice, the place is clean, and the staff is friendly. It's also one of the cheaper places, but the initial process isn't complete.

"A Wonderful Assisted Living Tour!"
I recently toured an assisted living facility with Toni Haver, and it was fantastic! The place is lovely, not as big as the Severna Park location. The residents seemed really happy there. Toni explained that they aim to create a community feel for tenants, rather than a clinical environment. The dining area is beautiful, with restaurant-style seating, and the lobby has cozy seating groups for chatting. The Activities Coordinator, who’s been there for 17 years, plans lots of fun events, like a Mother’s Day Tea and Date Nights for couples. Although I didn’t see an occupied apartment, the model apartment was spacious and beautifully decorated. The outdoor spaces, including well-maintained gardens, were gorgeous. I also appreciate Sunrise’s approach of having dedicated care managers instead of rotating caregivers. Plus, they offer aging in place, which is essential for our family. I’m definitely bringing my mom for a to

"Mediocre Nursing, Inadequate Care at Brighton Gardens"
My mom has been living in Brighton Gardens for three years. Initially, everything was fine. But, as her health has declined due to old age and dementia, it's become a poor match for her needs. There's no genuine nursing care provided. All they do is check her temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. Outside of that, they're pretty useless. The doctor only comes by once a week. So, if my mom needs a basic test or review on the days he's not around, our only choice is to rush her to the emergency room. Keep in mind, you can't anticipate more nursing assistance even as your loved ones require more care. We've had to bring in extra nurses and additional services to ensure my mom has proper medical supervision. Bottom-line, I'm deeply let down by Brighton Gardens and I wish I could afford to move my mom elsewhere.

"Respite Care Experience at Brighton Gardens"
My dad stayed at Brighton Gardens for three weeks of respite care while we went on vacation. The staff was very caring, competent, and friendly. They offered activities, but my dad preferred not to join in. The staff was quick to respond to his needs and listened to his concerns. We filled out a profile, and they used that info to connect him with other residents who had similar backgrounds or interests. At meals, he was seated with three other men, two of whom had military experience like my dad. This made him feel more at home. The furniture provided was basic, which makes sense since most residents stay longer than a short respite stay. We brought extra items, like his favorite chair and a TV. I felt my dad was safe and well cared for at Brighton Gardens, and I would definitely contact them again if needed. We picked this place so my dad would be closer to family while we were away. If it were closer, we’d consider it for future permanent assisted living if my dad needs it.

"A cozy, welcoming place with great food and activities"
It's a place you'll really like and feel at home. The service is excellent, the food is great, and there are lots of activities. You can join in or just relax in the cozy living room and chat with people. You can enjoy coffee, fresh fruit, and popcorn all day. There’s also a nice library, movies to watch, and entertainment like musicians and dancers. I visited a few times and would have liked to stay permanently, but I had to move closer to my son in Richmond, VA.

"Medication Mismanagement Concerns in Assisted Living Facility"
We're leaving because we're upset about having to move mom again. The big issue is she's a diabetic on a sliding scale, but they only have nurses from 9 to 5. So, they couldn't adjust her medication properly. They put her on a fixed amount, which made doctors at the hospital wonder why. They didn't handle her medications well, sometimes saying they didn't have them without even checking. We were there for five days straight, and they never mentioned her getting low on medication. They only called when she was low and I had to rush back to fill it. They filled medications without my permission and charged $900. Besides that, I'm worried about the nursing care and the activities that aren't right for her age.
