"Brookdale Potomac: Unfit for Assisted Living and Hospice Care"
I definitely won't suggest Brookdale Potomac to anyone who has a family member unable to fully care for themselves. This is NOT anywhere close to an assisted living facility. It's also NOT a place that knows how to handle or is friendly towards Hospice care - even though they said they were. No one should be suggested to come here.

"Understaffed and Budget-Focused"
I'm not very happy with Brookdale Potomac. They got back to me too quickly after I was referred to them, which made me feel like they were chasing after us. The person who assessed our loved one at our house wasn't very honest or thorough. Our loved one is struggling she keeps falling, and they don't assist her to the bathroom, leaving her wet. Sometimes hours go by without anyone checking on her. Some staff members are nice, but others are rude. The CNAs lack knowledge. There was a Covid outbreak, and they didn't inform anyone. The facility itself is nice and clean, and the food is good. However, they're understaffed. It seems that Brookdale prioritizes their budget over residents.

"Great staff and clean community, but food could be better"
The staff here are excellent, and the community is clean and nice. The food could taste better for the residents. However, there are different meal options available, and three meals a day are provided. There might be a small delivery fee for bringing meals to the resident's room.

The tour at Brookdale Potomac was great; impressed by guide and info. Good follow-up, but residential odor was a turn-off.

"Caring Staff and Good Efforts, But Room for Improvement"
In the end, you'll find a group of people here who truly care. They really tried their best to give my loved one dignity and comfort, and meet her needs. Due to Covid, there were a lot of restrictions and policy changes, but they did their best to support the residents and their families despite these challenges. Was it perfect? No, but they genuinely tried hard and worked to fix things when they weren’t right. The food was okay nothing fancy, but acceptable for the residents. The activity schedule looked good on paper, and they really do make an effort to offer opportunities for everyone to get involved. However, my loved one had vision problems, and I wished there were more accommodations for her participation. She needed someone to assist her one-on-one, so she missed out on some activities. The costs are similar to other places nearby. I was more concerned about the quality of care she received than the expense.

"Poor Communication and Unexplained Charges at Assisted Living Facility"
My family member stayed at this facility for just 3 nights. They called us, saying he wasn't in good shape, so we rushed to the facility to see him. But no one had the decency to inform us that he had already passed away. The facility showed no empathy and their communication was severely lacking. Regarding the finances, the bill was very vague. Upon asking for an itemized billing, we found their handling of it to be highly unsatisfactory. They weren't clear about why they billed us for an entire month plus an extra $800. I strongly discourages anyone from choosing this facility.

"Helpful Community with Great Staff and Therapy Options"
We had a family friend who lived here for about four months. This place was really helpful for him. He did wish the food portions were bigger and a bit warmer when served. It was important for him to move out of his home, and this community made it easy for him to adjust. He could do his physical and occupational therapy here, which was nice. He had a bedroom, a living room, and a small kitchen area. We got him some extra furniture to make it comfy. Some of the care services were very helpful, but he had family members come to care for him all the time, so we didn't need all the services. The staff was very helpful to our family when they came to assist him. This community played music all the time, which he absolutely loved.

"Management Needs Improvement, Activities Limited for Young Residents"
A year ago, my family experienced Brookdale Potomac. I'm sharing to let others know that my rating is low because of the management. They need to step up and do better. Communication and effectiveness were often lacking. This community doesn't offer many activities. My sister, who's young, found it hard to engage as most activities catered to those with memory issues.

"Weekend Medication Delays"
Weekdays are great, but weekends have fewer staff. Sometimes, my dad and other residents miss their meds on Saturdays. The nurses know they're behind, but it still happens. Not all meds are urgent, but some shouldn't be delayed.

"Calm, friendly place with excellent care for Parkinson's patient"
From the moment I walked in, I felt calm and welcomed. I was looking for a place for my 60-year-old son who has Parkinson’s. They answered all my questions. My son has been living there for a few months now. He is doing really well and praises the care he gets.

"Cozy Facility with Friendly Staff Needs a Modern Update"
I liked this place a lot. It needs a bit of fixing up, but the workers were nice, the spot was tidy, and the folks living there seemed involved and cheerful. They don't provide advanced nursing care, so staying there as you get older isn't possible - probably a big issue for me.

"Friendly Staff, But Too Big"
This place is really pleasant, full of light, and spacious. The people working there were kind and did an excellent job guiding us. They were patient and responded to all our inquiries. However, I thought it was a bit too big for what my mom needs.

"Aunt adjusts, enjoys meals and activities at Brookdale Assisted Living."
My aunt is still getting used to the change. It's taking a bit for them to start her therapy, but the staff is really nice. The food is pretty good, which is a relief because she hardly ate at the rehab center before coming to Brookdale. They even have extra food options if she wants. She goes to the movie nights they have every day and talks to the other people who live there. I'm happy we picked this place.

"Great Layout"
Our family initially chose this community for my mom after touring several places. We even signed a contract to move her in. Unfortunately, her health issues became more serious, and she needed additional care beyond what they could provide. On the positive side, the facility had a fantastic open floor plan with plenty of natural light throughout. I definitely recommend this affordable community to anyone in need.

"Good Place, But Couldn't Meet Our Needs"
This place is pretty good, but it wasn't able to give my wife the help she needed. It's a great place for someone else. My wife needed more help than they could give. Everyone was nice and tried their best. It's a really good place for the right person.

"Brookdale Potomac: Perfect Fit for Us!"
The staff at Brookdale Potomac is amazing. They’ve been really good with my mom-in-law. The food is tasty, and there are plenty of activities she enjoys. Unfortunately, they lack a social worker for residents and families. While it’s not ideal for middle to advanced stage dementia, it’s perfect for us. I highly recommend this community. A Place for Mom was a true blessing.

"Inconsistent Care, Communication Woes Mar Otherwise Decent Facility"
I rated each category with 5 stars, but overall gave it 3.5 stars because "administrative competence" and "communication with families" weren't included for star ratings. If they were, both would be at 1. Disagree with a negative review; care and services are fine, but administrative competence is lacking, and leadership is disorganized. Improving under new management but still has a long way to go. Residents receive good care, with robust activities and attentive staff. Renovations are fantastic, and basic medical care and cleanliness are good. However, families might struggle with communication. Daily needs like supplies or minor health concerns can slip through the cracks. Management seems disorganized. Not recommended for those with hearing aids. Despite communication issues, the value is good, though billing can be unclear. Overall, a decent choice if your loved one can communicate well, but challenging otherwise.

"Billing Problems at Brookdale Potomac Assisted Living Facility"
Brookdale Potomac is doing well. The bills have been tricky. They send me copies of the invoices, but they seem higher than expected. There was a community fee at the start, and I think they're charging it every month. The bill isn't itemized, just one big sum. They have physiotherapy onsite. My brother had an evaluation, and they want him to come regularly, charging $75 an hour. We can't find his Medicare card. My main complaint is the service in the dining room. They lack appropriate help, so there's not much conversation. The facility is always under refurbishment. I was attracted to the library, but it's being renovated and unusable. When he moved in, they gave him a studio at the price of a companion suite, which is what we could afford. But two months later, no companion suite is available, so everything is on hold. Physically, I like the place; it's very comfortable. My brother likes it too; he's happy and more upbeat than he's been in years. But with the billing rate, his funds will run out sooner than expected.

"Facility's Neglect and Staff Unhappiness Lead to Frequent Falls"
This facility is terrible, I don't suggest it to anyone, and my mom stayed there for 7 years. They neglect people, my mom was very cold and fell many times a week, and they didn't correct the problem. No other factors were different, like changes in her medicine; the issues were just due to the facility. It's clear that there are serious problems here and it deserves to be put on a do-not-refer list. The situation here is dreadful; there's frequent change in personnel which reflects poorly. The staff members are unhappy and this reflects in their persistent resignations. I, as part of the family, can't get any information from them.
