Five Star Premier Residences of Chevy Chase

"Mixed Opinions on Services"
The building's nice, comfy apartments. Cleaning's good. Food's tasty but dining's slow. Activities are okay, used to be better. Mostly exercises. Disappointed.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short: Poor Staffing, Food, and Activities"
Lots of problems at Five Star. They don’t have enough staff. The workers aren’t trained well. The bosses and company don’t pay attention to what the residents need. The food isn’t good—it’s not healthy, it looks bad, it’s often overcooked, and there aren’t many choices. Waiting for meals takes a long time. The new computer system for ordering food hasn’t helped. Actually, it’s worse because the servers don’t know what to do. The person in charge of the dining room isn’t around to watch over the staff. If Five Star’s food service was a restaurant, it would go out of business quickly. The activities are always the same. There aren’t any new or fun things planned. A lot of the residents feel bored and sad, but nobody seems to care. This is really important. The residents have a good reason to think that nobody is paying attention to them. The high price isn’t worth it. Look for a different place.

"Great facility with clean environment and good food."
The facility is always very clean. They paid close attention to Covid-19 and took extra steps to keep everyone safe. My mother had no complaints and liked the activities before the lockdown. We both enjoy the food, and I've eaten there several times. I definitely recommend this place.

"Serious Doubts Over 5 Star Facility"
My mom lives at 5 Star now. She really likes her apartment and it's near my home, but the eating situation stinks. The food's not always good. Also, the wait staff's slow and not so good. Residents usually have to wait half an hour to an hour just to sit down for dinner. Complaints seem to fall on deaf ears with management. It also doesn't seem like they have enough staff members around. What worries me even more is that safety doesn't seem important here. The garage door's been stuck open for weeks, so anyone could just walk right in.

"Mixed experience, management unresponsive to dietary needs, food quality concerns."
Love apartment, service staff. Management lacks food responsiveness, dietary issues.

"Enjoy Living Here, But Food Quality & Management Are Lacking"
I really enjoy my living space and the service staff here. But, I'm unhappy because management seems to disregard my repeated requests for better meals. A lot of us here need to cut back on salt, sugar, and red meat for our health. However, our choices, specifically non-red meat ones, are very limited and repeated a lot. For instance, I can't eat red meat because it raises my cholesterol, and alternative dishes like cheese lasagna aren't healthy either. Also, the food here is pretty salty and generally low-quality. Despite being told we aren't fed too much salt, some of us have had health issues like congestive heart failure. We've noticed that our ankles often swell while we live here, but the problem stops when we go to visit relatives or go on vacation. People who visit us and are looking to move here should know that the lunches served on tour aren't like our normal meals. There have also been a lot of food cutbacks since I got here that don’t seem fair. We have fewer options, more of the same thing, and smaller portions than before. Popular items run out quick leaving those who eat late with low-quality substitutes. I want to point out that getting fresh fruit has also become a rare treat. We don't even get fresh eggs but twice a month for breakfast; the rest are often pre-cooked, cold, and seem to be powdered. That's not good enough considering what we pay to stay here. Lastly, there doesn't seem to be any regard for the dietary needs of residents. Since moving here, I've lost 15 pounds just because I won't eat food that doesn't meet my doctor's standards. Others who need to eat healthily are gaining weight at an alarming rate.

"Mixed Experience at Five Star Premier Residences"
Five Star Premier Residences of Chevy Chase is doing well overall. The staff on the lower level are great. My apartment is perfect, and maintenance is excellent. However, considering the cost, there are some issues. The chef's assistant and manager are kind, but they can't cook specifically for those who need health food; they have to cater to the masses. I understand that, but food matters a lot to me. The good food is really good, but the bad food is quite bad, making it challenging to rate. The housekeeper is delightful, and the service people are absolutely lovely. The residents are also very pleasant.

"My apartment is perfect"
Five Star Premier Residences of Chevy Chase is mostly good. The staff on the lower level are great. My apartment is perfect, and maintenance is excellent. But for the money we pay, there are some issues. The chefs and manager are kind, but they can't cook specifically for those who need healthy food. They have to cook for everyone. I get it, but food matters a lot to me. Some of the food is really good, but some is very bad, making it hard to rate overall. The housekeeper is lovely, and so are the service people and residents.

"Mixed experience at Five Star Residences of Chevy Chase"
Overall, Five Star Residences of Chevy Chase does a pretty good job. The place looks nice and is kept clean. Most of the staff are friendly and ready to help. However, my family member has a couple of complaints. They think the food and dining service could be better, and the elevators seem to have some problems with breaking down.

"Beautiful place with many amenities and social opportunities!"
This place is beautiful! I visited on Sunday for lunch after touring on Friday. The service was great, and their menu has vegan options and clearly marked dishes with milk. The pool is small but swimmable, and the fitness center is full of machines, though I didn't see anyone using them. It’s a big community, with about 300 residents in Independent Living, so there’s a good chance to meet new people and join activities. The one-bedroom apartments have four styles, with some having updated kitchens. Each unit has a balcony with morning sun and afternoon shade. Prices vary depending on the view and floor level. Parking is free, and they offer transportation services. Assisted living is also available, but it costs more. The community fee is $4000, which goes toward building maintenance.

"Impersonal atmosphere despite friendly tour, impressive dining."
This place felt a bit too big and lacked a personal touch. The tour guide was very friendly but the building itself didn't appeal to me that much. The dining room was impressive.

"A step above!"
My mother and I were impressed as soon as we entered. It feels as nice as a five-star hotel, with a beautiful reception area and concierge. The place has many amenities, including a big seating area for guests. There’s an indoor pool with aquatics classes, a fitness room, a large library, and a community room for movies, speakers, religious services, and concerts. They even have an art room and a card room! The dining room has a dress code for dinner (jackets for men), and the tables have cloths and fresh flowers.

"Charming Old-Style Facility with Room for Improvement"
This place is in a good spot and looks like a fancy old hotel, which is cool. But sometimes it seems like it's not taken care of as well as it could be. The rooms are nice and there's plenty of space, but there are too many people walking around who don't seem to be doing much. The residents seem happy and lively though, which is nice to see. The rec room and pool are updated and fun, especially for visiting grandkids. The apartments are a good size and nicely decorated, but the hallways are a bit old-fashioned and stuffy. It's worth checking out again, especially because they have cool activities like trips to The Kennedy Center and Strathmore.

"Great tour, but missed meeting residents."
My wife and I toured the facility together. My wife's mom also visited, had a tour, and enjoyed lunch, all set up by the Director. However, she didn't organize a meeting with the Residents' Committee or other residents.

"Great Amenities and Activities at Affordable Assisted Living"
This assisted living place is pretty nice. They have a kosher buffet breakfast and different choices for entrees. There's a part for assisted living, weekly housekeeping, and an emergency response system with pull cords in the bathroom. Each apartment has a washer and dryer, and they do laundry too. You get lunch a la carte and a full kitchen in your apartment. They have scheduled bus transport, doctors on site, and physical therapy. It costs $3500, which covers everything except TV and cable. They also have Shabbat on Friday, a Yiddish group, and other activities. On Sunday afternoons, there are concerts from the Kennedy Center, and on Monday nights, they show opera videos from wwwhyattclassic.com. You can sign a one-year lease or do a shorter one for 3 or 6 months. They offer one month free rent or moving expenses, and you can choose from different home health agencies.
