"Early dinner, bland food; good for more independent seniors."
The Heartlands experience is good, suited for less dependent, active residents.

"Disrespect and Unprofessionalism Experienced at Heartlands Assisted Living"
After paying for my mom's stay at Heartlands, I've been in the process of deciding if she should continue living there. One day while I was walking her dogs, a man , who claimed he worked at Heartlands but had no visible identification, approached me. He asked me about my mom - who's currently in rehab - and if she's still staying at Heartlands. I told him she usually stays there but I am not sure if she'll return. He moved onto questioning me about my own presence, to which I assured him that I was occasionally staying until I figure out whether my mom would be leaving or not. The man briskly informed me that I wasn’t on the lease. When I asked him for confirmation, he disrespectfully replied with 'I don’t know, boy'. Taken aback, I asked him to repeat himself, after which he replied with profanity. I responded by telling him about my honorable military service and asserting myself as an American. Instead of respecting this, he claimed that he too had served and that my service no longer counted for anything. I then asked to speak to a supervisor, to which he arrogantly claimed that he was the supervisor.

"Mixed Experience at Heartlands Assisted Living Facility"
It's kind of tricky to say if we'd recommend this place or not. The biggest problem was when our mom passed away, Heartlands didn't tell us; we heard it from Gilchrist Hospice. When we brought it up, Heartlands said they had the wrong phone number, but they had three of them—mine, my brother's, and my wife's. One wrong number might make sense, maybe two, but all three? That's hard to believe. Another thing, when we first visited, they showed us a room for handicapped people, which we thought would be good for my mom because she couldn't move much. But even after asking several times, we never got that room. They were also supposed to give her a Lidocaine patch, on for 12 hours, off for 12 hours, but the last day, it was on for 24 hours, and the nurse didn't even know. Looking back, I wish I had just kept my mom at home. It might have cost more, but she would've gotten better care and been more comfortable.

"Heartlands Good for Independent Living, Lacks Staff for More Care"
If someone is really independent, then Heartlands is fine. I wouldn’t recommend it for those needing more care – there aren’t enough staff, and it’s basically a nursing home. When my mom needed more help, I hired a caregiver for one-on-one care, which was very expensive but gave me peace of mind.

"Not Ideal for Our Loved One"
It was just okay. But because our loved one had a stroke and these places were like little houses, they didn't provide enough help. Plus, it was a long walk to get breakfast, so we knew it wouldn't be suitable for our loved one.

"Heartlands: A Cold Place in Need of Warmth"
I've been at Heartlands for four years and only made one friend. The facility feels cold, like a big city. Before the quarantine, I enjoyed warm dinners with a friendly group. Now, after four months of isolation, my daughter rescued me. Heartlands needs a warm country heart.

"Clean and friendly facility; found better option for dad's needs."
I visited this community for my dad, and everything went smoothly. Everyone was nice. The place looked clean and well-maintained. The staff I met were friendly. We found another community that suited our needs better, but our tour here was pleasant.

"Limited Memory Care Options"
We toured this community while considering options for my dad. It looked clean and well-maintained, and the staff seemed friendly. However, my main concern was that they only offered assisted living, not memory care, which I’ll need eventually.

"Nice facility, but dining area too far for some residents"
We visited HeartLands Senior Living Village in Elliott City. The place looked nice and the grounds were well-kept. However, the dining area was far from the residents' rooms, which might be tough for my mom. So, we picked a different community that suited her needs better.

"Lovely Visit but Not the Right Fit"
I had a nice visit to this community. Everything went smoothly, and they were very kind to my family and me. From what I saw, everything looked clean and organized. All the staff I met were friendly and nice. There were many things to consider when deciding where to place my mother. Unfortunately, it wasn't the right place for us.

"Caring Staff, Good Community, Inconsistent Food Quality"
I chose Heartlands for my mother because the staff is really caring and know the residents well. The people living there are friendly, have positive attitudes, and are welcoming to newcomers. The food is good with just the right portions, but sometimes the quality and preparation vary. The tableware is old-fashioned and not very nice. The breakfast area, which can also be used for lunch, is like a small café-cafeteria and wasn't clean on my visit, but the management fixed that quickly after I reported it. The independent living apartments are linked to the main building by a hallway, so residents don’t have to go outside in bad weather, though it is a bit of a walk. The residential areas have their own living rooms with hot drinks, game tables, a TV, and newspapers and books to help residents socialize, and it works well. At dinner, many residents use rolling walker-chairs to reach the dining room, passing a water station with lemon water, a big birdhouse with beautiful tiny birds, and several rest areas with lovely views. There is no on-demand transportation; the shuttle van only runs at dinner time. Overall, this place is very good; the residents enjoy living there, like each other, and would be happy to have you join them!
