"Poor Experience at Ingleside Memory Care Unit Due to Negligence"
My mom's stay at Ingleside at King Farm's third floor memory care unit was very poor. There was a delayed or no response when her emergency button was pressed. Her room was large with nice lighting and a big bathroom, but her food options were very limited. They often served unhealthy or bad tasting food. Although she enjoyed the exercise classes, music therapy classes weren't as good - ill-behaved residents caused disruptions and no one controlled them. It was also hard to participate in many activities because they were located on a different locked floor. The cleaning service was outstanding, though. Mom didn't feel safe because an aggressive resident was allowed to wander around freely. Once, while I was visiting her, he threw a trash can at me. After complaining to the executive director, memory support services director, and community nursing director, they just said that the aggressive resident had the right to move freely and advised my mom to stay in her room with the door locked. Thankfully, she's now staying in a new memory care unit and she's doing quite well.

"High Costs and Poor Management at Ingleside"
We had a really bad experience with Ingleside at King Farm (IKF) for our family member. IKF is a type of elder care facility that has the right to decide if your family member needs more care, which costs more money. In our situation, after IKF decided our family member needed more help, they couldn't take care of our family member's memory issues in their Memory Support Assisted Living. Because of this, they had to call in other help, both from the government and private companies, and charged us a lot more money than their usual monthly fees. Also, in our experience, the people who were making major decisions didn't really take our opinions into consideration. We've now found a better place for our family member that costs less and our family member is doing really well.

My mom’s happy overall. Communication was tough initially but improved. They made getting COVID shots easy. The community is clean, staff friendly—I recommend it to others.

"Costs Rise, Resident Needs Second to Staff at IKF"
I’ve been living at Ingleside at King Farm for seven years. It’s pretty pricey, and the yearly price jumps are bigger than what we get from cost-of-living increases, Social Security, or pensions – it went up by 4.5% in 2021. It used to feel like they put us, the residents, first, but now it seems like they’re more worried about making things easier for the staff. They’ve made changes that really mess with our routine, like making us order our meals a whole day ahead by 8 in the morning, just to help out the staff and the people they hire. Plus, jobs that you’d think the staff should handle are being dumped on us without pay. Take the trash and recycling – they got a new company that doesn’t pick up as much as the old one did. So now, we’re the ones who have to gather up recyclables and take them over to the Transfer Station ourselves. And I’ve heard from a few folks who moved in recently that the sales team promised them stuff that just hasn’t happened.

"Ingleside at King Farm is wonderful!"
My mom moved in 10 years ago and loved it. She made friends, enjoyed activities, and I did too. Sadly, she passed away 2 months ago. I miss her and the great staff and residents at Ingleside at King Farm.

"Expensive, Drawn-Out Refunds Plague Residents Leaving Ingleside"
My uncle moved to Kings Farm's Ingleside residence on November 1, 2015, but sadly he passed away the following June. To get settled into Ingleside, he had to fork over an Entrance Fee of $299,000 and a monthly rent of $3,115. According to our understanding of the complex's policy, Ingleside would deduct 4% from the initial Entrance Fee along with the monthly rent until the entire Entrance Fee depleted. After that, all my uncle had to pay was the rent. In total, my uncle shelled out $119,530.61 in rent and Entrance Fee deductions for just over 7 months - a shocking total of $15,584.18 per month. After all that, the folks at Ingleside are still holding on to my uncle's remaining $203,320. They explained that they could keep this amount for a minimum of six months following his death. It turns out their Agreement stipulates that if my uncle wanted to leave Ingleside, they would require 90 days notice and would return any Entrance Fee refunds only after leasing out the apartment, collecting the new renter's deposit and their full payment, and then holding onto the money for an additional two months. Ingleside kept claiming they had a waitlist of people wanting apartments, but in the month since my uncle's passing, they didn’t come up with a new tenant. Calculating their policies, they are holding onto my uncle's funds for over six months posthumously. Or if you're trying to move out and get your money back, they can potentially hold it for over nine months. Beware, if you're planning to join the Ingleside facility, make sure the Agreement has a provision to return your dues within a week of leaving, or else you might find yourself stuck. Prior to sharing my story, I implored the administration at Ingleside to release my uncle's funds to close his estate - my plea met stone-cold rejection.

"Avoid Wasting Money at Ingleside at Kings Farm"
My uncle moved to Ingleside at Kings Farm but sadly passed away in mid-June. To start, he handed Ingleside $299,000 as an entrance fee, plus a whopping monthly rent of $3,115. Their agreement states that Ingleside gets to snatch 4% of his entrance fee in addition to his rent each month, until his entrance fee is all used up. Then, he'd have to just cover the rent for as long as he stayed. In just almost eight months of stay, my uncle paid Ingleside a total of $119,530.61 in rent and the decreasing entrance fee. That's a staggering $15,584.18 monthly rate. To add insult to injury, Ingleside plans to keep the remaining $203,320 of my uncle's entrance refund for at least another six months after his death. If he had needed to leave for any reason beforehand, it would have been an even longer wait. The contract would have asked for a 90-day notice plus waiting for your apartment to be rented out, the new tenant's 10% deposit, the full payment, and another 60 days for Ingleside to cut the check. Despite always boasting about their waiting list for apartments, Ingleside hasn't found a new renter for my uncle's spot in the month since he died. Meaning, they'll hold on to his $200,000+ for over six months post-death. And if he had simply not liked the place? They'd hold his money for 9 months or more, making it impossible for him to afford moving to another place with an entrance fee. Be cautious if you choose the Ingleside at Kings Farm route. Make sure to request for changes in the contract about the return of your funds within a week of leaving, or else you may stuck and drain your estate for six months or longer after your death. I pleaded with Ingleside's leadership to release my uncle's fund for his estate's sake before typing this - they flatly denied.
