"Noteworthy Amenities"
I recently toured this community for my loved one, and I don't have any complaints about how things went. The staff were punctual for our appointment and made sure to answer my questions. I liked the open floor plan and thought they had a nice selection of amenities for the residents. Personally, I felt they lacked the 'wow' factor I saw in other places I considered for my mother.

"Friendly Staff and Comfortable Atmosphere"
The staff impressed us. They made Mom feel welcome and eased our worries about her well-being. The place felt warm and inviting, not overly fancy like a 5-star hotel. We asked them to let us know when a spot becomes available. No rush for us.

"Happy Transition to Assisted Living: Pleasant Food, Inclusive Celebrations"
After a rough time in a nursing home, we were unsure if my husband would do well in assisted living. But it turned out much better than we hoped. The food was great, and being able to share meals and attend mass together made us really happy. The Thanksgiving party was lively, and our whole family was invited, which was wonderful for the holiday. I think her name was [Removed], she went above and beyond in caring for my husband, and he really liked her. The chef was always willing to accommodate our needs. I might even consider moving there myself when the time comes.

"Devastating Review Of Assisted Living Facility's Neglect"
One to Avoid: Appalling Experience at Assisted Living Facility" This place is a nightmare. Please, don't place anyone here who can't defend themselves. I was always scared, especially at night, wondering what would happen if a fire broke out since we were locked in. Our call bells went unanswered. Whenever my husband fell, I had to yell for help. The staff members would only close our door and ask us to be quiet. The number of my medications often came out wrong. On our last day there, we were both overdosed which led to a hospital stay, then rehabilitation, causing a setback in our physical and mental health. As a result, we're now far worse off and possibly won't return to how we were before. I've made complaints to the local fire department, police department, adult protective services, citizens' advocates, and even the state attorney general. I have yet to hear back from anyone. It's now been over two months since I first lodged these complaints. The situation with assisted living and nursing homes in Maryland is shameful. We've been in several, and this one tops the list in neglect. They're quick to take your money, but then leave you to fend for yourself unless you can put up a fight. The staff act as though you're already gone. We often miss meals, showers, recreational activities, and more because they simply forget about us. My only link to the outside world was my phone, but it was consistently placed out of reach. The threats from staff are incessant - if I dare to complain, they'll evict us. Thankfully, we have now left the facility, through a hospital stay and then a move to a new "home." I'm left with heartfelt prayers for those who remain in that nightmare of a place.

"Shackles of Neglect: Nightmare Assisted Living Facility"
Zero stars. This place is a nightmare. Please, don't allow anyone who can't defend themselves to stay here. I couldn't sleep because I was scared of what would happen if there was a fire. We were locked in and our calls for help were ignored. When my husband fell, I had to yell for assistance- they would just close our door and tell us to be quiet. My medication count was frequently incorrect and we were over-drugged on our last day, resulting in a hospital stay and physical therapy. This mishap has taken a toll on our health and emotions. We may never recover to our previous condition. I've reported them to the fire department, police, department of aging, ombudsman, and attorney general, but haven't gotten a response, even after two months. It's a sad state of seniors' care in Maryland. I've seen many facilities, this is the worst. They're quick to take your money, but care comes only if you insist. The staff talks about you like you're already dead. We've missed meals, showers, and activities because they forget us. My phone, my only connection to the outside world, is often kept out of my reach. I've been constantly threatened that if I lodge complaints, they'll kick us out. We're no longer there now- we were moved via hospital to a new facility. My heart goes out to the ones still stuck in that dreadful place.

"Shangri-La Lacks Quality Compared to Other Assisted Living Facilities"
Out of the six places we checked out, Shangri-La fell short. It was lower in standards compared to the rest. The buildings desperately need a fresh coat of paint, everything is old-fashioned and it just has a sad vibe. I can't see anyone leaving their relatives at Shangri-La when there are a lot more good places with similar prices.

"Misinformed at Gloomy Assisted Living: No Shangri-la"
This place feels gloomy right when you step in. There's a bad smell and the entrance is filled with folks in wheelchairs, many sleeping. We brought my husband, who has Alzheimer's, to Shangri-la hoping he'd receive good care. Unfortunately, the staff misled us about their ability to handle Alzheimer's patients. There were almost no activities geared towards people with dementia. The staff, not big enough to handle patients who wander, often left these individuals unsupervised. This could cause problems. Even though they promised they could look after my wandering husband, our family had to take him out after only 8 weeks because they couldn't actually handle him. Clearly, it's no Shangri-la!

"Shabby and Stinky Facility with Strangely Arranged Rooms"
This place is tiny, worn-out, and stinks. The first thing you come across is a trash bin! The rooms are arranged strangely. Most of the folks living there seem pretty sad. The manager is really nice and supportive, but the place just isn't good.

"Friendly staff, but not a perfect fit for my loved one."
My family member stayed in this community for a short time. It was pleasant, clean, and the workers were kind. However, it didn't suit her well; the atmosphere didn't match her preferences, and it was quite distant for us to visit frequently.

"Good Price, Good Food"
It seems pretty good. They do a nice job with bingo, sing-alongs, and Sunday worship services. There are movies and about 3 or 4 scheduled activities every day. My mom isn't thrilled, but I don't think there are many places that would make her happy. She prefers her own home. The food is good—she likes that. The facility has around 60 people, so it's a moderate size. The price is reasonable, and it's conveniently close to home.
