Winterberry Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care

"Friendly Staff, Cleanliness Needs Help, Good Communication, Recommend to Others"
The people who work here are really nice and ready to help, but they had some trouble keeping everything clean after one of their cleaners left when my dad got here. Talking to them and our family is easy and the move-in went smoothly. I think other people would like it here too.

"Good Value with Room for Improvement"
Winterberry Heights is a nice place for the price. I'd recommend it to other families. Applying and moving in was easy. They have a nice dining room and take care of residents well. I think there's always room to get better. Maybe more activities for residents could be added. The staff who help with laundry and hanging clothes could do a better job. Sometimes, the clothes came back a bit disorganized in the closet.

"Overall, positive experience with some room for improvement."
I think there weren't enough staff to take care of my loved one here. It's good for those who need light help, but if your loved one needs more assistance or has memory care, ask lots of questions. The management team is helpful, especially the Marketing and Financial Directors. Communication about caregivers could be better. The food and service are good, and the activities are varied. It'd be nice if more staff encouraged residents to join in. The rate was lower than other places, and the community is beautiful.

"Warning: Poor Care and Billing Practices at Winterberry Heights"
Winterberry Heights isn't a good choice. They made us pay for another month after my family member died. It was really bad. He fell a lot, and the nurse thought he couldn't move, so they didn't check on him enough. That's how he passed away, just one week after he got there.

"Good Place with Beautiful Dining, Slightly Small Rooms, Positive Vibe"
Winterberry Heights appeared nice. The dining room was lovely. The rooms were okay, though a bit small. Overall, the atmosphere felt positive. As our loved one needed less care, we chose independent living elsewhere, as assisted living is pricier.

"Waiting for Bill After Mom's Passing"
Many staff changes in care services. Some caregivers were kind, others not. Communication was unclear. Administration promised but didn't deliver. Still waiting for the bill after Mom's passing. Food was okay.

"More Activities Needed, Otherwise Nice Community"
This place is really nice for the price. It’s affordable and the care is good. I've heard they have activities like bingo and painting, but there aren’t many activities or things listed for residents to stay busy. We wish there were more things for residents to do.

"Friendly staff, pandemic staffing issues, limited activities."
Winterberry Heights, near our family, gets 4 stars due to staffing. They're short-staffed because of the pandemic, not their fault. Activities don't suit our loved one, but they have options for participating residents. The staff's friendliness stood out initially.

"Staff Shortages and Mixed Experiences, But Good Transportation"
They have had a lot of recent turnover and are short-staffed because of these changes. Because of this, we have had some good times and some not-so-good times. We thought the apartment was furnished, but it wasn't. Some amenities were also not clearly explained. My loved one doesn’t like the food too much, and we are waiting for the staffing issues to get better to see the changes. I love that they have transportation for the residents and really appreciate that. However, I haven’t received a bill like I should have and had to call to avoid any fees.

We had problems with safety and my relative isn't getting expected care. Understand short staffing, but disappointed.

"Too much care for my independent loved one."
This place focused on nursing care, but my loved one is independent. They offered many services, but not all were necessary.

"Wonderful Community for Seniors"
My parents are still getting used to the place, which is normal. This community is great for moving your loved one to. The staff is excellent and really helps your loved one. I couldn't have found a better place for my parents. They'll have to move to a place with more memory care soon. I'd recommend this community to someone whose loved one isn't as far along in their memory loss as mine. It's a great place, and I was very happy with them.

"Truth Revealed: Harsh Realities of Winterberry Heights Assisted Living"
The truth about this assisted living facility is what's hidden away. There's always a constant shortage of staff. Management doesn't seem to respect or care about their employees. It makes me wonder, how can they properly look after the residents if they can't even get their staffing right? On the bright side, they keep the place tidy. The food, however, isn't great. The cost of living here is completely unreasonable for both residents and their visitors. Imagine getting charged just to eat with your relative, or even to stay the night. Communication is terrible. Messages get lost, the receptionist working during the day is mean, and so are several of the nursing aids. As a family member, I can see why they can't keep staff for long. They only have three lifts for the whole building, and they aren't cleaned between uses. The main nurse even forgets to do crucial things like delivering key shots, giving enemas, or attending to wounds. They even have a rule saying that Medication Aides aren't allowed to do these tasks. My family member has been here for about a year now, and in that time, they've had six different managers. SIX! In less than two years! The current managers are not nice and are very unemotional. My advice is, if you're considering moving a loved one into Winterberry Heights, watch them like a hawk or they might not get the care you're paying so much for.

"Paying Big Bucks for Low Quality and Unstable Service"
This place doesn't have enough staff who know what they're doing. The people living there have to wait forever to get help. It costs way too much to live there. It's just a lot of money for not enough help. They're always firing workers and hiring new ones every week, which means the people living there have to deal with caregivers who don't know what they're doing.

"Misleading Marketing Favors Wealthier Seniors"
They claim to be "budget-friendly", but they won't share the real charges without one-on-one talk with the possible future resident. My talks with three folks living there suggest that seniors with mid-level income can't handle the monthly fees. They seem to favor serving wealthier seniors.

"Beautiful Facility Falls Short in Care and Communication."
The place looks great, but they can't seem to keep the same staff members around for very long. There always seems to be miscommunication about what is supposed to be happening there. Things they promised would be there, aren't. Most of the workers are nice, but there's a lack of professional behavior. Mostly with the person handing out meds, who likes to cause friction between families and the people staying there. You need to keep a watchful eye to avoid this. Services they claim will happen on schedule, don't. The food is okay; other places apparently do better. The chicken is often dry, the food is hard to slice into, options are limited, and they don't give enough. There are lots of activities but they aren't very good at getting the people staying there to join in. This has really let me down. The healthcare is a real trouble area. Important stuff doesn't get communicated right, a lot falls through the cracks.
