"Mixed Experience at American House Holland"

My dad lives at American House Holland, and it’s mostly good. The place is clean, and he’s happy. But there are issues with his phone and thermostat. My sister is working on it.

"Neglected Care Facility: Poor Management, Bad Food, No Medications"

Five years ago, this place was somewhere you'd be glad for your parents to live. Now, it's a different story. They can't hold onto their employees because they don't pay enough and it's poorly managed. They're always running out of medications! The food is subpar and usually cold by the time it's served. The building isn't well-kept. I've complained numerous times about the falling-apart dining room chairs and they've only fixed a couple. The others are still hazardous. I always had to double-check if my mom was sitting on a safe chair. Once, my mom needed help getting to her meal with her wheelchair. She pulled the help cord and no one came. When I got there, I saw the call light was on, but the alert system for the workers was silenced. Luckily, she hadn't fallen. My advice is to pay more for a better service.

"Assisted Living Facility Struggles with Billing, Food Quality, Staff Turnover"

My mom moved into the assisted living place on [date removed], but the billing has been a mess. They raised her rent in January, but the office can't seem to get it right. I paid with a check, but they say they lost it, even though my mom's bank shows it was paid. They added the money to her account, but the check is still missing. Mom doesn't like the food there. She tries to eat it, but she says it doesn't taste good at all. Also, there are always new people working there.

"Facility's understaffing and lack of communication yields awful experience"

The nurses and staff here were super nice, but they didn't have enough people to take care of everyone's needs. My family member didn't have anything to do most of the time, which made them really bored. Trying to talk to the office staff like the manager and admissions person, was impossible. I'm still trying to call them to pay my last bill. They even lost the check I gave them. No one ever got back to me. Plus, they lost my loved one's wheelchair. All in all, it was a terrible experience this was the worst thing we've ever had to go through.

"Friendly Staff, but Understaffed and Needs Better Care Assessment"

We thought the place was nice, really tidy, and the people working there were super nice. We didn’t get to try the food they make because our family member got their food in their room, but it was tasty. The workers were nice every time, but there weren’t enough of them, so they couldn’t do everything we hoped they would. Also, they didn’t check our family member’s needs right, so we ended up having to do more for them while they stayed there.

"Great community, but needs better communication and healthcare follow-up"

We were told our loved one would see a doctor and have an appointment with their podiatrist, but that hasn't happened in several months. This is very disappointing. We've had issues with our loved one's medication, which is a big problem and could harm their health. This needs to be fixed. They also need to improve their overall communication. As the primary caregiver, I think the community would benefit from a newsletter or monthly meetings to keep families updated on changes. Other than the communication issues, this is a 5-star community.

"Assisted Living Feels Like Home"

This assisted living place doesn't take Medicare, but it feels cozy and welcoming.

Shown apartment on main floor, nice with kitchen but no fridge. Washer & dryer in each unit. Month-to-month rentals, with a community fee. Rates rise yearly (3-7%). Guardian life-line available. "Beautiful and Clean, but Too Expensive for Us"

We visited American House Holland and found it beautiful and clean. The staff was nice and knew what they were talking about. Unfortunately, it was too pricey for us.

"Assisted Living: Nice Property, Winter Challenges"

Nice place overall, but the parking and recreational facilities are too far from the units during winter. Since both parents use scooters, the snow could be a problem. They also wish for a larger dining room.

"Great care and friendly staff"

They're really good, but not perfect. The place is very clean, and the staff is super friendly. It's more expensive than where my wife was before, but I think it's worth it. The care is great. I used to visit three times a week, but now I go twice because they thought that might be better. Sometimes when I visit, they've gone on a bus ride or done an activity, but I'm not sure how often that happens. I believe there should be plenty of activities. There are 20 residents, and 4 aides check on them every half hour to make sure everything is okay. The house coordinator is very involved in the care. I'm very happy with them.
