"“Friendly, patient staff in a nice facility.”"
This place is really nice! Whenever I visit, everyone is super friendly. The staff is amazing with my loved one, who has trouble talking. They’re patient and understanding. The activities are good, but the director is on maternity leave, so there’s less variety right now. Overall, we’re really happy here. I’d recommend it to friends and family.

"Nice Assisted Living, But Far for Family Visits"
We really liked American House Spring Lake. It’s just too far for our family to visit often.

"Mixed Feelings About American House"
We picked American House because it was secure, and they had an available room when we needed it. The room size impressed me. My husband, who loved chatting with people, couldn't do so due to COVID restrictions. With his dementia, it was tough to tell if he recognized us. Overall, I'd recommend it based on the individual.

"Disappointing Experience with Willow Brook at American House"
I would strongly advise you to avoid American House’s Willow Brook like the plague. My mom stayed there for a year and a half and let me tell you, it was a far cry from suitable. At first, her care was okay, but it quickly spiraled downhill, becoming downright awful. A huge chunk of the aides didn’t really seem to care, were barely paying attention and overall, very neglectful. It seemed they spent more time on their phones or taking breaks rather than attending to their responsibilities. The instructions from care providers were repeatedly ignored or left incomplete. And talking about assistance, you could end up requesting something 4 or 5 times before they would finally attend to it. Unless you're available every hour of every day to look out for your relative, you should definitely explore other options before even thinking of Willow Brook at American House.

"Peaceful and homey with great food"
The setting here is very peaceful and quiet. There isn't much commotion. It has a homey feeling with about 18 residents. He sometimes enjoys the daily activities; they had a Christmas party, and his wife joined him for that. The food is very good because the chef is retired and buys and prepares the food himself. They have private rooms and clean them weekly. The whole place is always clean. The staff always try to accommodate him and his needs. I would recommend this community.

"Cozy Assisted Living with a Few Questions"
The rooms are really nice, and the surroundings are pleasant. There are separate buildings for Assisted Living and Memory Care. It’s like Independent Living with extra help if you need it. The place is smaller, but I’m not sure if it’s the right social environment.

"Quality Declines at Assisted Living Facility under New Management"
Oak Crest was a great assisted living facility when it was initially managed. Unfortunately, the control has now switched to American House, and the quality of care provided has plummeted drastically. The staffing, or better put, the lack of staffing, is a distressing issue. My mother is currently residing in this facility, under the assumption that it was meant for assisted living. Alarmingly, they have started introducing Alzheimer's patients into the same building. Now, my mother is forced to secure her room to prevent these patients from wandering into her space. She often ends up eating only once a day due to the unsuitability of the meals prepared for the elderly. It's now become necessary for family members to visit daily for simple tasks - making her bed, ensuring clean towels are available, refilling toilet paper, and disposing of garbage. Additionally, she frequently misses her prescribed medication because the sole staff member assigned to the building is often absent. If an emergency were to happen, there would be no one in the facility to provide aid. It’s a common sight to see this staff member leave the premises and not return for an hour or more. During one of my visits recently, an alarm from a resident's call cord rang for an uninterrupted hour. According to my mother, this isn't an isolated incident. Often, this disruptive noise reverberates through the night. I am greatly disappointed with the downgrade that has occurred since American House took over.

"Decent Facility, Not a Match for Mom’s Needs"
I went on a nice tour of this place. It mostly looked clean and tidy. The people working there were really nice and smiled a lot. I had to think about a lot of things before deciding where my mom should live. In the end, this place just wasn’t the best choice for what she needs.

"Worse Than Before: American House's Takeover a Letdown"
This place has just gotten worse since American House took over. The staff is always changing. They only do activities sometimes and not a lot. They don't give the workers any good reasons to work in the areas for people with really bad memory problems. They even cut back on kitchen workers, so the care workers have to do extra stuff on the weekends and all they mostly serve are sandwiches. This isn't what we wanted when we signed up and even though we've complained, nothing's really changed. Things still aren't good and they're actually getting worse. I'm trying to find a better place for my family member. I wouldn't tell anyone to come here.

"Dramatic Decline in American House Service Quality"
Ever since the management shift, the quality of care here has taken a big hit. I've seen the staff shrink as people keep leaving due to massive work overload and not enough time to complete it. American House seems to view its residents and staff not as valuable individuals but as mere means to earn more profits. Higher-ups tend to ignore issues affecting the residents, probably because solving these problems requires too much effort on their part. They always claim they're on a tight budget for every problem that comes up but strangely, the rent keeps going up and employee hours keep getting slashed. It's nothing like the company it once was.

"Broken Promises and Staff Exodus: The Unseen Reality"
Ever since the facility changed hands, things have gone downhill. Most of the staff is leaving, making the remaining few take extra shifts. My family used to be satisfied with the staff who looked after my mom. There's no longer an activity director. Expectations now include staff caring for seniors plus organizing activities. They've started retracting the commitments they made when we admitted my mom. We were assured they can manage her and her specific challenges, but now they say it’s not a facility for advanced expertise. The staff lack training in managing common senior problems, communication is less than satisfactory, and the administration gives untruthful information about the services they offer.

"Food quality needs improvement for better assisted living experience."
The food here really needs some work. I'd rate it 5 stars if it wasn't for the food. It's super important for seniors, you know?

"Generally good and helpful, less clinical environment"
In general, everything has been very good and helpful. Sometimes, their systems can cause an over-reaction. They have protocols that send residents to the hospital even when it's not needed. We chose them because they have a less clinical environment. It's also smaller and easier to navigate than other places we saw.
