"Assisted Living Review: Comfortable, Pleasant Staff, Great Therapy, Pet-Friendly"
The place is nice, my room is bigger than I thought. The people who work here are nice too. I like that I can bring my dog. The exercises they do here are really good.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
The assisted living facility’s onboarding process is terrible. They don’t accommodate meal requests, and there’s a charge if a resident wants to eat in their room. The activities being on the lower level confused my mom. The staff didn’t make her feel at home. Unfortunately, my mom had an episode they couldn’t control, leading to a dementia diagnosis. Their bookkeeping wasn’t well done. Overall, not a 5-star experience.

"Caring Staff Builds Relationships, Great Place for Assisted Living"
The people at Brookdale Portage truly care about the residents and families. They take the time to get to know everyone and make sure they're comfortable. I think other families who are looking for a place for their loved ones should consider them.

"Room cleanliness lacking; steep rent hike unsustainable for fixed incomes."
The whole place is kept clean, but my mom's room hardly gets cleaned unless I do it myself. Plus, they raised the rent, which is way too much for people on fixed incomes.

"Handled Harshly by Management of Assisted Living Facility"
We were treated badly by the people running the place. They sent a nurse to talk to my mom. The nurse said my mom would do good in assisted living and doesn't need special memory care. But the bosses used old medical records to say she does need it, forcing us towards memory care which costs more and has less chances for socializing. My mom was living at this place before and there was no problem. Her doctors right now say she doesn't need memory care either. The uncaring way the people in charge dealt with us is disturbing. We are looking at other places that have been nicer to us. I'm really unhappy with how they treated us and I hope other families won't go through the same thing.

"Assisted Living Review: Mixed Promises, Staffing Struggles"
The place talked big before we joined, but they couldn't keep up with what they promised because they don't have enough staff. It's tough these days with not enough people working in healthcare. My family member likes the stuff they do here. They're nice about giving residents what they want to eat, like grilled cheese if they don't like what's on the menu.

"Not Recommended for Loved Ones"
I don't recommend Brookdale Portage for your loved one. Communication was bad, and they didn't treat residents well. My loved one's bathroom wasn't cleaned enough, which was disappointing. They always had excuses. Some staff were great, though. The activities director worked hard to involve my loved one. But the onboarding experience was terrible—they never read meal options.

"Mixed Feelings About Brookdale Portage"
When we visited Brookdale Portage, we didn’t like that everything was divided into separate units instead of being open to everyone. The rooms were smaller than others we saw.

"Management Absent, Staff Caring; Fees for Basics Disappoint"
The workers were really nice and took good care of us. I really appreciate how kind and helpful the nurses, aides, and people who serve food were. But the people in charge aren't around much, especially on weekends. I feel like all they care about is getting as much money from us as they can. They charge for everything, even just having someone walk with us to meals for a short distance.

"Dissatisfied With Staff's Understanding of Dementia at Assisted Living"
My mom and I had arranged to visit this assisted living facility, however, on the day of our visit, they informed us that there were no rooms available. Despite this, we requested to visit anyway and they obliged. The woman I originally coordinated with wasn't present, and the staff member who guided us lacked understanding of the specific care my dad, who is suffering from dementia, required. It became clear that the staff was not adequately trained in dementia care, specifically in techniques such as redirection. Interactions with other dementia residents appeared negligible. The facility's cleanliness was acceptable. However, resident assistance alarms continued to ring noticeably longer than we were comfortable with - one instance lasted between 5 to 10 minutes. My mom had a fall while we were there and their only response was to ask her if she was okay. If the original lady had been there for our tour, it might have swayed our decision differently.

"Community Could Use an Overhaul"
The walkthrough of this place wasn't to our liking. They showed us an unswept room, which made us worry about my mom living in a place where employees aren't keeping up cleanliness. They also didn't show us the food options or tell us about things residents can do for fun. I'd advise families to visit this place by themselves to see if it meets their needs for caring for their loved one.

My mom just moved here, and things seem good. The staff take good care of her, but they seem really busy all the time. I hope they can hire more people soon. Mom likes the food and I hope she'll join in on the activities soon. Overall, we're happy and would suggest it.

"Unexciting Food, but Clean Facility with Nice Staff"
The food at this place isn't really great, often it's cold and doesn't look appetizing. The place is neat, though, and most of the workers are friendly. The people running things don't seem to be very active in the community.

"Not fully satisfied: Assisted living concerns with staffing and cost."
Some of the staff seem unhappy when you ask for help with your family member. I'm not completely sure this is the best place for my mom. I felt a bit misled, thinking an assisted living facility was ideal for her. There aren't enough staff for all the residents. The cost is higher than most places, and I assumed it was because they had more staff to assist them with daily tasks.

"Brookdale Assisted Living: Mostly Good Experience with Some Billing Issues"
So far, things are going pretty well. We're happy with what Brookdale has done for us. The only problem we're facing is with billing. But apart from that, it's a nice and clean place to live. The staff is really nice and friendly. My mother-in-law likes the food. They're taking good care of her and her needs.

"Decent Facility for Minimal Care, Not Suited for Heavy Assistance"
Brookdale is a decent place suited for seniors needing minimal assistance. It's a place for Assisted Living, not heavy care like a nursing home provides. If your elderly person needs more assistance, you or your senior might not be satisfied. The center itself is wonderful, they have a lot of activities and the activity leaders are terrific. The lady at the front desk is always welcoming. Most of the caregivers are good too. On the downside, response time to calls could be quicker. They don't always have enough staff, which seems to be a common issue in these types of places. If you need a lot of support, you might not be content here. The food is alright, but it isn't gourmet. Pricing is based on the care level needed - like a menu with different prices. I thought this was fair since my mother-in-law needed extra care, so we paid more than someone living there just for the company. But we ended up paying quite a bit and didn't feel the service matched up. Communication isn't great either between management, staff, and families. I had to initiate many questions. The sales staff promise lots of things, but the actual caregivers don't always deliver. All in all, it's a nice place, but you should consider somewhere else if your senior needs help with personal care like using the bathroom, bathing, changing clothes, etc. They claim they can manage it, but really they don't have the staff to do so.

"Assisted Living Facility Provides Varied Activities and Supportive Environment"
This assisted living place is nice. The workers are friendly. Sometimes the chefs have a bit of trouble, but overall, it's okay. They offer many activities, which is cool. I'm really glad I chose this place. The person in charge of activities tries hard to make sure everyone gets involved. We liked where it is, it's clean, and everyone seems cheerful. I also noticed they help all sorts of people, from those who need a little help to those who need a lot. It's good they support a wide range of residents.

"Improvements needed in communication and response times"
Mom's first week here was really rough! Nobody on the staff took the time to explain to her when laundry gets done, the schedule for fresh linens, when the apartment was going to be cleaned, or even how to call for help. Actually, just yesterday, she needed help and was brave enough to pull the help cord, but nobody showed up. If she had fallen or been in a real emergency, she would have been left there still waiting. The lady at the front desk, Crystal, has been the only one to assist her or answer any of her questions. They really can't afford to lose her!

"Glossy Exterior, Subpar Care: A Facility to Avoid"
This spot looks nice, but doesn't offer good care. They swap out the caretakers a lot, most having barely any training. Communication is horrendous between the bosses, the workers, and the families. In a couple of months, they'll increase your personal service fee. They nickel and dime you for everything, yet don't deliver on what they charge you for. You must keep an eye on them and ensure they're doing what they're supposed to. If your loved one gets injured, they'll shrug off all blame and point fingers at everyone else. I can't endorse this place. We've faced nothing but issues.

"We’ve had a really good experience with Clare Bridge"
We’ve had a really good experience with Clare Bridge. The staff is kind, respectful, and quick to help. The first two weeks can be tough for both family and the new resident, but they kept us updated and told us how to help Mom settle in. Now, she’s taking part in lots of activities and is being cared for with love and safety.

"Good overall, but could use more activities and space."
There were some communication problems at first, and some doctor’s orders weren’t followed. The food is average; sometimes it’s good, sometimes not so much. More space or activities would be nice, and it would help if residents were encouraged to join in more. The pricing is fair, and the building feels more homey than others. A few staff members are excellent at handling her, which is great since she can be tough.

"Unwanted Services Boost Assisted Living Costs"
We got a fair 40% discount when we moved into this assisted living place. However, they have been slowly piling on needless services that we never asked for. They've been billing my mom for bath help but she tells me no one's ever helped her shower. She also gets charged for a 'special' low-carb diet, but she eats just like everyone else. She's a diabetic and they serve her toast, pancakes and muffins for breakfast - not very healthy. Aside from these snags, everything else here is fine and things are going smoothly. The only concern is that they seem to sneak in extra charges for unwanted services. If you're not constantly checking what they're doing and what you're paying for, you won't realize the extra costs until you see your bill. They tack on charges for services without even checking with me first if it's necessary.

"A Comfortable Transition to Professional Care"
Our mom just moved to Wynnwood. It's nice and clean. Mom and staff are still getting used to each other. The first night, I stayed with Mom, and a staff member offered me a mattress. So kind. So far, things are lovely. Hopefully, Mom will adjust quickly. This is the hardest thing for a family to do for a parent. It's time to let professionals care for her so we can return to being her daughters and have lovely visits with her each night.
