"High cost, low care at assisted living facility"

This place is really bad! I came in to help a resident, and nobody seemed to care. Nurses are busy on their phones, the food doesn't change, and there are flies all over. Everybody's attitudes stink. It costs way too much for such lousy treatment. I would never recommend this place.

"Avoid this poorly run facility."

Don't go. Staff always changing, poorly trained, no communication, neglectful care.

"Exceptional care for mom"

We moved my mom to Cedarbrook, from another facility in Bloomfield Hills, and we're glad that we did, the care she received there was exemplary, the staff was engaging, and she was always kept included in group activities and exercises. There's a kind and respectful staff There were always activities going on and it was clean every time we visited. She was so thankful that we moved her here.

"Beautiful Cedar Brook Facade Hides Incompetence and Lack of Care"

My mom has been living in Cedar Brook for almost two years now, and I'm seriously trying to find a different place for her. Laying down all the issues I've had with Cedar Brook is going to take quite some time. I guess I should start with the good points. The building and grounds are attractive and mostly well cared for. It's a relatively new place with appealing features. But the real trouble comes from the staff. While some of the helpers seem nice, they're largely inept. They regularly mess up with her medications, and when questioned, they almost always lie or point fingers at others. The staff turnover rate is high, making it difficult to hold anyone accountable. There have been numerous instances when my mom has been left untidy and brushed aside. Frequently, they forget to bring her to scheduled activities or motivate her to engage in things. As a result, she often just ends up sleeping all day long. My mom is 78 years old and shows some preliminary signs of dementia, but she's still largely cognizant of her surroundings. She just needs a bit of help - help she's not getting at Cedar Brook. I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere for your loved ones. This place isn't worth the exorbitant fees. Even though I usually stand by the idea that you get what you pay for, Cedar Brook is a glaring exception. Cedar Brook is an absolute ripoff.

"Caregivers don't care. This place is a ripoff."

My mother has been a resident of Cedar Brook for the past 21 months. I'm currently searching for a place to move my mother. It would take a long time to list all of the incompetence present at this facility. I will start with the positives of this place. It's a beautiful facility, and the area is well maintained. It's new, so there are many nice features about it. The biggest problems here are the people present. However friendly they may seem, they are overall incompetent. They make mistakes on medications very often, and they do not hold themselves responsible, sometimes even lying about what happened. The turnover is incredible, and therefore, it is tough to have any accountability. There have been occasions where my mother has been left ignored, not cared for, and unclean. This happens regularly. They don't take her to activities, and they don't encourage her to do anything. My mother ends up sleeping the entire day. My mom is 78 years old, and has some early signs of dementia, but she is still very aware of what's going on. She simply needs assistance. Assistance that she is not receiving at Cedar Brook. I insist that you look elsewhere for a loved one. This place is not worth the high price tag. It is often said that you get what you pay for, but here you are only getting ripped off.

"Health Concerns Raised Over Hygiene Practices at Senior Living Home"

I raised a formal issue with the Michigan Department of Health about Cedarbrook Senior Living in Bloomfield Hills. There's a record of this complaint with a specific case number, and the Department of Health took the time to look into it Several months back, the employees at Assisted Living got specific instructions from the Head Nurse [name removed] to stop using flushable wipes to help residents in the restroom. Instead, they started to use the residents' own washcloths for cleaning up feces, then rinsing these out in the bathroom sink and hanging them up in the residents' showers. The worst part is, nobody told the residents or their families about this shift in practice. In early April, I learned about the situation from some of the staff. Around that time, my father had been using these contaminated washcloths for his daily washes. By January, he'd developed an itchy rash that required multiple trips to Henry Ford Hospital. Even the dermatologist there couldn't figure out what caused it, so they started him on an antibiotic, taking it twice daily from January. Once I found out about this grossly unsanitary routine, I had a talk with [name removed] and the Executive Director. They were gracious enough to put a stop to it — at least for my parents. They went back to offering wipes to aid in cleaning up feces. By the end of May, my dad's rash disappeared completely and he was able to stop taking the antibiotic. Now, I can't say for certain that this filthy protocol was the reason behind my dad's rash. But honestly, that's not the important part of my story. If you need to verify what I've said, I can give you the case number of the complaint with the Michigan Department of Health. If you're considering Cedarbrook Senior Living for a loved one's care, make sure you ask if the staff is still using this method in Assisted Living.

"Doubts Over Hygiene in Assisted Living Facility"

I lodged a serious complaint with the Michigan Department of Health about Cedarbrook Senior Living in Bloomfield Hills. My issue was recorded with an official case number, and the health department investigated it. A few months before this, the Assisted Living staff, under the Head Nurse's orders, had ceased using flushable wipes for cleaning the residents after bathroom use. Instead, they were told to use the residents' washcloths to remove fecal matter, rinse these in the sink, and then hang them to dry on the shower's safety bar. All this was done without the knowledge of residents or their families. I found out about this grossly unhygienic practice from the staff. My dad had been using these contaminated washcloths for his daily bath. He had developed a bad rash that puzzled dermatologists at Henry Ford. He was prescribed an antibiotic twice a day starting. Upon uncovering this distressing situation, I talked with an Executive Director. To their credit, they immediately put a stop to this practice for my parents, and we again got flushable wipes for clean-up after toilet use. By the end of May, my dad's rash was entirely gone, and the antibiotic was stopped. Even though I can't definitively state that this filthy practice caused my dad's rash, I believe that's not the main point. The key issue is the potential risk it poses to residents' health. If anyone would like further information, I am willing to share the health department case number for them to review the report. If you're considering Cedarbrook for a loved one, I strongly advise double-checking whether this practice in Assisted Living is still being followed.

"Distressing Review of Cedarbrook Senior Living in Bloomfield Hills"

The top nursing staff member at Cedarbrook Senior Living in Bloomfield Hills, confessed to me today that my father wasn't given his necessary medicine. During this period, he could barely manage daily tasks properly and even had a bad fall. The head nurse looked into this, and it's officially recorded at the nursing home. I strongly advise against trusting this assisted living location with your family members. I'm currently moving my parents from there, eagerly awaiting the end to the past two years of frankly awful care. Tell your friends about this.

"Cedarbrook Assisted Living Failure: Substandard Care and Disorganization"

My folks lived at Cedarbrook Senior Living of Bloomfield Hills in the Assisted Living department from May to July. My Mom is in a wheelchair and on hospice care, while my Dad, age 89, relies on a walker and has Parkinson's. They were at Cedarbrook for 2 years and we took them out last week due to repeatedly subpar care. My mother faced safety risks, their quarters were unclean and they mishandled my parents' essential meds five serious times since day one. In those 2 years, they fired everyone from the Executive Director to the Head of Nursing, two Assisted Living Nurses. They've replaced their Head of Maintenance four times, the cleaning crew five times, and the food service lacks consistency and competency. The Executive Director will claim that they are improving. But the final straw came when my Dad didn't get his necessary drugs for six weeks and the staff didn't even notice their blunder. Furthermore, the staff doesn't keep track of or address changes in their residents' health, both physically or mentally. On top of Cedarbrook's high fees, I need to hire an outside caretaker five days a week to ensure my parents are truly cared for. If it weren't for her, my parents wouldn't be with us today. So if you consider this place for your loved one, good luck, you'll need it.

"Disappointing Experience at Cedarbrook Senior Living of Bloomfield Hills"

My folks were in Cedarbrook Senior Living of Bloomfield Hills' Assisted Living from May to July. My mom is confined to a wheelchair, receiving hospice care. My 89-year-old dad, suffering from Parkinson's disease, uses a walker. After two years of substandard care, I decided to move them out. Security issues, filthy living space and five major medication errors were a constant from day one. The facility's main leaders, including the Executive Director, the Head of Nursing, and two Assisted Living nurses, have all been removed. The Maintenance head and housekeeping staff have been changed several times. The dining service is unreliable and disorganized. Despite these issues, the Executive Director insists things are improving. The last straw was when my dad's prescribed medicine went ungiven for six weeks, with the staff unaware of this mistake. They also don't keep track of the seniors' physical or psychological well-being. Apart from the high fees, I had to hire a personal caregiver who looked after my folks five days a week. If not for her devoted care, my folks might not be with us. If you opt for this place, I wish you and your elder luck. You'll certainly need it.
